The Sound of Drums - A British Hearts of Iron II AAR

Looking at the map, it would appear that Brunei is one of our few sources of oil. And the largest at that, besides our puppet government in Iraq. Perhaps we should look at expanding our naval presence in Singapore some.

Agreed. The Japenese home islands are lacking in raw material,s hence their invasion of Manchuria nad their eyeing of China (or have they already invaded? I can't remember), they will surely be looking to gain the rubber and oil resoruces in Indonesia.

OOC: Japan invades China in 1937. Current year is 1936.

What is our ultimate goal here? Simply to maintain British power or to crush all potential compeditors. In any event I recomend researching the next level of infantry to start off.

Japan are eyeing up China at the moment, and I believe any war there will mean the Japanese are too busy to even consider taking on Britain (along with the Commonwealth and France) for several years. We should send the fleet to Singapore, but I don't think any additional army divisions will be required for some time.

The situation in Europe, particularly in regards to Italy and Germany, is interesting. I'll send Rheinmetall to visit with Hitler and Mussolini in the coming months, maybe to better our relations with these nations. It will be difficult with the current Italian-Ethiopia war, but as has been stated, the Suez Canal is of vital importance. If we lose that, we lose the Far East.

Nodikus: Maintain British power and survive the Second World War :)
Cleric: I made you Admiral, and will give you command of the main fleet when it's assembled (I like to call it the Grand Armada) - a nod to your time as Kriegsmarine chief in Written by the Victors.

The Soviet union does not seem like much of a threat. While they have been pushing their industry in recent years, I beleive we have little to fear from them as their navy is outdated and very small, with the majority of their population still peasents. However if a hypothetical war with Germany occours, it would be good to have have positive relations with them, although Facists and Communists do not seem to get along well.

However we should not forget ot take steps against the spread of communism, for it would destroy our society and pocket books.

If were not planning a war of aggression then I recomend were establish trade relations with as many countries as possible.
Also mayby we should focus on defensive technology in order to consolidate our territory.

PM Saxon...erm...Sharuminar. Are we planning on increasing our air power. I've seen a rather facinating machine, the Hawker Hurricane monoplane fighter, demonstrated recently.

Let's go with Intelligence. :)

Can I have it?

We should definately be researching new aircraft tech. As well as tanks and ifnantry of course. We have a great navy, but tank and aircraft are still developing. I beleive they will play a vital role in future wars.

We should definately be trying to wring Canada for as much material trade as possible. Being out of the line of fire in a potential Asian or European conflict, their industry will be able to continue providing support without much impediment. (So long as the Navy is able to mount effective defense of transports, of course.)

With that in mind, we should also be doing all we can to encourage them to prepare their own forces and productive powers. They were quite useful to the throne last time around, probably will be again.

Aircraft carriers are the future of naval warfare - I suggest that we begin production of at least two new aircraft carriers with supporting destroyers as the core of a new fleet. The Japanese have openly disregarded the restrictive naval treaties put in place since the Great War and are increasing the size and strength of their naval forces. We cannot let the Royal Navy slip behind!

Yes, Canada has a lot of untapped raw resoruces. They have a lot of lumber still being logged in Eastern Canada, but British Columbia especially is covered in huge trees. Ontario and BC both have plenty of minable resoruces too. There is excellent fishing and excellent farming, especially the prairies and Ontario.
However industry there could be more developed.

Although with the depression, it will take some time to get the econonmy back up, and we should focus on Britain. After all, the colonies were fonuded to supprt England.

And yes, these Aircraft carriers need ot be looked into. It is possible that planes in 10 years could have the range and bombs to take out battleships. Already we have the biplane Fairythings (I forget what they are called) torpedo bombers of our own.

Fantastic discussion guys.

As noted in the report, each branch of the armed forces will get a tech team devoted to them. For each one I'll go with what the Chief decides, or the general consensus otherwise.

So at the moment that means work towards the Hawker Hurricane (I forget what category that's in), as that's what e350tb wants. Nodikus wants our infantry upgraded, but that's fairly difficult as the next level are 1939-type, so I'll focus in improving our current level.

@Pugwash: I'll begin construction of carriers, as per your request. Do you wish to research the next class of carriers as well.
@Yuri: I intend to trade technology with all allies, France, Canada and Australia being priorities. They'll also be my first choice for resource trading, but this will be in the hands of our Ambassador for Canada, Captain2.
@Ironman: Done.
@e350tb: I very nearly went down the road of calling myself Saxon, but I figured it would be too confusing for readers if people were allowed aliases :D

I'll see if I can't add some more suggestions for Cabinet of Doom positions, more administration based.

Yes, yes good choice chaps! New Aircraft Carriers are the key as well as advanced fighter tech. I put my vote for researching the next class of Aircraft Carriers as well.

Yup, putting a tech team on carrier research sounds good (are we within a year of the historical carrier research date?). :)

Also Kan I don't think boldimifying is a word. :p
