For a while I've gone crazy working on DDS graphics. I work on DDS since Civ4, but never before now I've encountered a such strange behaviour.
Usually I save my DDS in compressed mode (dxt1 or dxt3) because I never noticed a significative degrade in the results.
Recently I switched to GIMP as graphic editor. Working on a CiV symbol I noticed some blurs in a save and for a long time I've tried to fix them. After several attempts I've realized that it depends by the DDS plugin, or, to better explain, probably by the color or shape combination.
Look at the picture below. When I save with no compression it results in a clear image. When I save with DXT3 compression I get the blurs. But if I change the background color (cyan) it results in a good image instead.
Very strange indeed. As side note, I got the same with DXT1 and DXT5 compressions and, as lesser extent, the same fault happens using PS v.7
I've also attached files if someone have interest in repeating the test
