The Succession Game

Of course! :) Actually it's your turn, then.

Nice job, gurra.

Woah, that was quick! :)

Any strategy discussion, directions we want to take? War/Peace?

Will get to it prob tonite.
Just realized I will have to get the Explorer DLC first...
Anyone knows about a fantastic deal to get all DLC in one swoop?
Civ V + G&K + BNW available, so it wouldn't make much sense rebying the Complete Edition...

I don't know about any fantastic deals but the Complete Edition for $40 is at least cheaper than getting them all separate which would cost $107, hehe.

If you're getting just the Explorer's Map pack and have no other DLCs there is also the Denmark civ+Explorer's Map bundle that is a little cheaper than getting those two for themselves.

Good point, I went for the Denmark+Explorer.
Shame that they don't offer all DLC in one special deal.. :(

Prelude

The empire of Carthage is in ruins. The last ruler is dead, some say he left running, some hope he is dead for his own sake. :crazyeye:

The people of the oh so hopeful little kingdom are fearing what the future might bring. Other powerful lands are cornering them in. When will the first argument, the first struggle, oh, the first war come to their lands...

In their clueless naivety (hey, they just learned how to write...) they turn to a stranger that just landed on their door steps. He claims he has experience in something he calls the 'Fourth Civilization'. Can he be trusted? Well, do they actually have a choice?

State of the Union

The newly appointed leader Putchuco of the Putchucos brings in quite some public relations specialists. Nobody in Carthage knows what that means, but said specialists convince the good people of Carthage that their previous rulers left them landlocked, without an army, the city of Utique not growing at all. A view on what the PR specialists call 'Demographics' makes them believe very quickly how dire the situation really is. The word in the world is that Carthage is leading! In everything!
NOT!

And so the people put their full trust on the oh, so great Putchuco. How much worse could it possibly get, they say?

Call to Action

The greatest Putchuco sees that the coffins are not really overflowing, but there is SOME money to spend. And since there is not much else to do on his first years in power, he decides to nilly-willy buy a piece of land! The field full of Deers on the border to the capitalistic Americans ( ;) ) seems just right.

T61: The newly formed scientific community of Carthage comes running with a wonderful discovery they made: BRONZE WORKING!
As Putchuco only thinks of Gold in his life, he doesn't know what to do with that.
Instead, he always thought that the idea of walking on water sounded great so he yells at them and demands an invention to 'sail over water'! Some people claim he mumbled something called 'Quinteremes'... but nobody knows for sure.

T62: Nothing happens, NOTHING!
Is this a good sign, they wonder?

T63: HAPPINESS! Could this already be the first sign that the new ruler is as fantastic as they wanted him to be? Some say it was the simple fact that some cotton fields had been worked. Those people were later found beheaded.
Putchuco's PR team walks the streets of now growing Utique, cheering everywhere!

But the people always demand more. Why aren't the workers already fielding the Truffles? Why isn't there Trade between the capital and Utique, isn't that what the Harbors are for?

Putchuco starts feeling the pressure. In his ENDLESS brilliance (some say borderline nutcase) he decides to switch Utique to focus on Production, not food! Those graneries need to be finished. AFTER that the people can eat. Shall they eat cake if they don't have bread!

T64: Nothing. Again!

T65: The unbelievable feat is done, scientists prove you can actually walk on water. Well, you sit and a piece of wood drifts, but still. Putchuco pushes them further, he wants to TRAVEL on water! Off you go inventing something we will now know as 'Optics'...

T66: Nothing. There is an eery feeling that other lands are not as inactive...

T67: The Granary in Utique is DONE, the people rejoice!! Now they may eat.

T68: Nothing, yet again. The not-so-new-anymore- ruler Putchuco is working relentlessly to convince that no news means good news!

T69: GOLD! Carthage sends off his first caravan ... to Washington! WHAT?!
Some people say the greed for money and gaining more science points from this deal went straight to Putchuco's purse...

As the great ruler starts feeling not so great anymore, a thought of a royal guard is put in place. Archers shall bring the kingdom to new glory!
Looking at Bowmen in the land of he 'US' helps push this decision through.
The faint memory of wanting 'Quin..'-something to 'sail' the world is almost forgotten. Nobody can imagine sailing from Carthage to Utique, that would be ridiculous!

T70: Truffles are worked, happiness rises to never before seen levels!
Utique grows to TWO!
Hm, is that 2 people, 2-hundred or 2-something-else?
How do I know, I just write this stupid story down, you were send to count them.
You want to argue now? People are watching, READING this as we speak...
OK, Ok, ok, ...

People are what people are: unforgiving, ungrateful b***ards.
Before Putchuco knows what is happening the ppl of Carthage run him out of the city, demanding, LONGING one of their previous rulers BACK!

Got rid of 'Putchuco':

Well, we did put 20 turns sessions so you could continue ruling Carthage for 10 more turns as a ghost or something. :D

So then, this is another chance of holding me back before I destroy... ehhh... lead Carthage to GLORY!

The Return of the King!

King Putchuco hadn't even left the realms of the glorious Carthage, when ... he was called back! It was an overwhelming, deeply satisfying feeling. The people LOVED him, wanted him BACK!
None of his cohorts wanted to tell him that no one else wanted to climb the throne just yet...

T71: His first action as returned king was... spend more money on land purchase! This time on those large, flappy-eared monsters across the bay.
Optics came to the small kingdom!
Putchuco wanted more, he chased the wise men after Masonry and those incredible bows these Yankees have on the other side of the mountain.
Was it another coincidence or was it really the simple return of his majesty King Uber Putchuco, the lead in the world rankings was taken from Washington! HA!

T72: Some 'unknown' land founds something they call Hinduism, jumping to the front of the rankings in the books of those bean counters! The audacity!

T73: Masonry comes around, but no one knows what a stone is.

T74: Utique grows, yet again!
And the capital produces an Archer, wooh!
Putchuco decides he wants more flowers and faster, so the folks get to work on a ... well, Worker.

T75: Some bards come along and tell tales about the worlds busiest people.
After Carthage isn't among the top 6 the bards leave the kingdom... without heads.
Seventh place... pfff

T77: Sydney calls us on 'trespassing'!
We wonder why, check the Scout and ruffle his feathers for standing in newly extended Sydnean land. He bows his head, begs for forgiveness and jumps into the Northern Seas, literally. Told not to come back without money, friends or tales of new lands!

T78: Horses are taken care of, now let's explore what we can do with those gigantic monsters across the bay.

T79: Construction is invented, MATH will be next. Nothing beats a catapult on defense from a city... :) Upgrade Archer to CB. Meet Alexander sailing the seven seas, exchange embassies.
William of the Lower Lands builds something called the Terracotta Army. Well, good luck fighting with vases, buddy. He jumps the ranks to 2nd. Can anyone believe the stuff the media invents these days?

80: And Utique grows AGAIN! ... while slowly plugging away at that Library of theirs.

What a reign of our beloved King Putchuco, may his greed for gold follow him to his grave!

Save game T80

The land before anyone ever thought of shedding blood...

Good job getting the empire back on track after my poor (as in money), unhappy session. I looked on your screenshot and started thinking whether we could possibly get a third city in either to the west of Utique or up north (thus breaking the promise I made to Washington), or if any expansion from here will have to be conquest.

I have the feeling that any expansion would either have to be through extreme arm wrestling ;) or staying in place and going after science full force.
It would seem on such a tight map that a third city would be (a) very small, (b) needs defense and might not grow sufficiently.
A National College might be something nice to have now, while keeping our defenses up. I have this nagging feeling one of these nutbags around us will attack, just a matter of time.
Should we be first? Where to go? Japan? They are alone in the SW, we wouldn't open another flank.

Hm, so many options, so strict decisions.

Whatever we decide to do, we need to keep an eye on Washington. Not only is he the biggest, baddest power in the world, he just so happens to be on our doorstep. And he doesn't even like us.

The Japs look like ripe pickings to me, if we decide to go along the war path, although snatching Boston wouldn't hurt either.

Talking about Washington, I must say those American soldiers seen in Putchuco's map could be a bad sign. Trading with him might keep him from making any rash decisions though, and we are trading with them and is that American caravan maybe going to one of our cities?

Remember to get the wheel early on, because city connections don't work without that tech, even for Carthage.

Im still going to be following this game, and may join at some point. Good luck!

Nice going. Turn 73 made me laugh

The save file link isn't working for some reason, and also it might be some time before I can play my set.

Something did happen to the save game, the attachment is gone from my 'manage attachments'... hm. Will have to reload this tonite, sorry about this, don't know what happened.

Talking about attachments, what do you guys recommend in terms of images and save games? I see dropbox being used, another also on steamcommunity, some on the civforum attachments. Isn't there a brilliantly easy-to-use offering?

Nice going. Turn 73 made me laugh

Thx. I know it doesn't make any sense, but I was in the mood for making fun of our illiterate little kingdom... ;)

I must admit I'm still chuckling about my statement on William's TC... :p
I know it's a bad sign when you start laughing about your own jokes... :crazyeye:

Well Print Screening doesn't work with CiV for me so I just hit F12 and link to the shots in my gallery. I'd rather use Imgur or something like that to get the images here with BB-Code instead of linking them but I can't be bothered to upload them twice, first to Steam and then to Imgur. :p

I'm too lazy to upload them anywhere. I just straight up attach them on civfanatics
