1625 A.D.
Military Advisor- Supreme One, we have fulfilled the original attack plans for Carthage.
Military Advisor- Hannibal's empire is greatly diminished! Shall we continue?
King Gudea- No, it is time to bring this to an end. As soon as a peace treaty is signed you can pull back the 1st Army Group for reinforcement. After they have rested, send them towards Egypt.
Military Advisor- We will be able to handle Egypt easily, once the 1st Army Group joins the 3rd. Once the 4th Army Group is trained and assembled, which will be soon, the Egyptian's won't stand a chance!
1630 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- My King, the Carthaginians must have been desperate for peace, cause they offered up two of their small towns to make it happen.
King Gudea- What worthless towns did he hand over to us?
Military Advisor- Both are small and far from here, but the town of Tacape is in a crucial spot.
Military Advisor- Once we get some forces there, we should be able to block off the area and keep anyone from coming thru. Currently there is fierce fighting, all around Tacape, between Rome and the Byzantines.
King Gudea- Being able to control and seal off that passage my be valuable to us.
Military Advisor- Sir, I have here a map of before and after the war with Carthage. Also, I have compiled our losses during the conflict.
King Gudea- Hannibal lost over twice as many military units and over half of his empire. Excellent!
1650 A.D.
King Gudea- What!? I showed Hannibal mercy by not wiping him off the map and he does this to us?
Foreign Advisor- Cleopatra has also been trying to pull Arabia into embargo against us and so far Abu has rejected her offers.
King Gudea- We wouldn't have been trading anything to Hannibal anyway, but it is still annoying.
1655 A.D.
The man was soundly asleep and dreaming a very peaceful dream. He was walking down a path thru the forest, on a sunny autumn day. The path came to a clearing which had a small bubbling stream running thru it. The man looked to the left at a flock of birds singing in a tree, a couple of squirrels playing to the right and straight ahead was a deer drinking from the stream. The man was content and enjoying the scene, when all the animals suddenly took flight or ran, startled by the gunfire. Gunfire?
King Gudea quickly sat up in his bed and listened. It was the middle of the night, but he distinctly heard gunfire and a lot of shouting. Just as he swung his legs over the side of the bed, there came a loud rap at the door and then it opened slightly.
Royal Guard- My King, are you all right?
King Gudea- Yes, what is happening?
Two of the King's most trusted royal guards quickly entered the room, then shut and locked the door. They both went to one knee, between the King and the entrance of the room, then pointed their rifles at the door.
Royal Guard- Sir, there are assassins inside the palace.
King Gudea- What! How many?
Royal Guard- We think around 20 assaulted the front doors of the palace. The guards there took down eight of the assassins before falling themselves. The intuders then spread out thru the palace, killing anyone in their path. Gilgamesh and a large group of guards are hunting down the rest of the assassins. He sent the two of us here to protect you.
After getting dressed, King Gudea took his sword down from the mounting on the wall and strapped it on. He then opened up a large wooden chest and took out his personal sidearm. He made sure the gun was loaded and then slowly ran his fingers over the ivory handle. To the dismay of the guards, the King then started for the door.
Royal Guard- Sir, would you please stay behind us.
King Gudea- No, I will not! It is bad enough that I send thousands of men off to war, while I stay all comfortable in this palace. Now an enemy has invaded my house and you expect me to cower in my room. I think not. Let us go engage the enemy before Gilgamesh finishes them all off.
One of the guards cracked open the door, peeked out, then moved out into the corridor. They immediately heard sporadic gunfire and headed in that direction. The three turned down a side passage to a back staircase and down they went, the two guards leading the way. The stairs opened up into another hallway and the commotion of battle was suddenly louder. Just fifteen feet from the stairs was a large door, set into the right side of the hallway. The sounds were coming from behind that door.
King Gudea- That's the royal library. We-
Suddenly there was a crash as someone hurled himself against the locked door. There was a short pause, then a shower of bullets sprayed thru the lock and doorjamb. The door burst open and a man wearing black from head-to-toe fell headlong onto the hallway floor. A second similar-garbed man slowly backed out of the library, while firing a small hand-held machinegun back into the room.
The assassin on the floor looked at the King with recognition and yelled something in another language. The guard to Gudea's left shot his rifle, hitting the assassin squarely in the chest. With his dying breath, the assassin raised his weapon towards the King and squeezed the trigger. The other royal guard leapt in front of the King, taking the spray of bullets and then crumpling to the ground. The assassin in the doorway turned from the library, saw King Gudea, pointed his weapon and...click! The gun's ammunition clip was empty. With frightening speed, the assassin threw his gun down, took out a long knife and lunged at Gudea. Two shots rang out, one from the remaining guards rifle and the other from the King's pistol. The assassin, hit in the head and shoulder, was hurled to the ground. The battle in the library apparently ended at the same time, as two more royal guards rushed out into the hallway.
Royal Guard- Sir, are you hurt?
King Gudea did not answer right away. He was bent down over the guard that had stepped in front of the bullets meant for him. The King whispered something to the fallen guard, then reached out and closed his eyes.
King Gudea- No, I'm not hurt. Are all the intruders dead?
Royal Guard- Yes, we got them all.
King Gudea- Where is Gilgamesh?
The two guards that had just exited the library stood there silently, acting as if they didn't hear the question. The military adivisor then walked out of the library, with his right arm limp and bloody at his side.
Military Advisor- Gilgamesh fell during the battle in the library. When an assassin would run out of ammunition, he would discard his gun and take out a knife. After this had happened to a number of them, Gilgamesh waded into them with his bare hands. With his martial arts he took out four of them, while also taking a few knife hits himself. But then he was shot in the back by one of the two assassins that escaped into this hallway.
King Gudea rushed over to the doorway and stopped, taking in the scene of chaos. Most of the chairs and tables were overturned, ancient books were scattered across the floor, bullet holes everywhere and the limp forms of many assassins and royal guards. In the middle of the room lay Gilgamesh, with four black-clad bodies around him. One of the assassins had an obvious broken neck, with his head staring in an improbable direction. The other three had various injuries, including a broken arm and a ripped-out throat. Gudea made his way over to his life-long friend, knelt down and laid a hand on him. There was a moan and slight body movement. The King turned and shouted.
King Gudea- He's still alive! Get him and all other injured to my personal medical team. Hurry!
Later-
King Gudea- The medical staff has informed me that Gilgamesh and all other injured guards will survive.
Military Advisor- That is good news, my King!
King Gudea- Do we know where they were from?
Military Advisor- It is a little confusing. Some of the assassins look Egyptian, some are Arabian and a few that look of Greek descent.
King Gudea- And the Greeks were conquered by Arabia.
Military Advisor- Yes. The guns are of Hittite manufacture and the knives are of unknown origin. There is one thing that gives it away. The assassin in the hallway recognized you and yelled "There he is" in an ancient Arabian dialect, that is seldom used anymore.
King Gudea- I remember him yelling and then firing.
Military Advisor- I believe Abu sent these assassins and was trying to confuse us as to where they were from. What is odd is they went to all this trouble of the disquise, but had no established attack plan. It is obvious they didn't know the layout of the palace, let alone where you where located. Most of them were easily trapped in the library.
King Gudea- Don't let word get out that it was Arabia. Let everyone think we don't know where the assassins came from.
Military Advisor- Ah! You don't want Abu to be prepared for when we retaliate.
King Gudea- Exactly! How is the war with Egypt going?
Military Advisor- It is going very well. We have pushed quite far into their territory.
Military Advisor- Egypt is breaking under the pressure of multiple army groups.
King Gudea- I do not want to spend the time to finish off Egypt completely. I want our forces to continue down the eastern half of Egypt and head towards the Arabian border. With that in mind, I want you to draw me up some battle plans for our retaliation.
Military Advisor- Yes, sir.
1656 A.D.
Military Advisor- On this map it shows the 1st & 3rd Army Groups going thru the eastern part of Egypt. Actually the 4th Army Group will help with that and then withdraw to board transport ships.
Military Advisor- The 4th Army Group will be the first to attack and the success of their mission is crucial. The entire army group will land outside of Fustat, destroy the city, then fortify on the hills there.
Military Advisor- One of the divisions will have an attached engineer battalion and they will erect some fortifications. The entire army group will fortify there and attempt to hold all Arabian reinforcements coming in from their main core of cities. Meanwhile the 1st and 3rd AG's will destroy the outer core.
King Gudea- Excellent plan! Start the attack as soon as our forces are in position. Abu will pay for this insult!
