The Sumerian Empire

1757 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, waves of Roman bombers continue to strike at Bortras and the marketplace has been destroyed. Our flak batteries have only managed to shoot down one squadron(1 unit) of enemy bombers. The crews running these anti-aircraft guns are still green; they should get better very quickly with all the experiance that Rome is giving them.
King Gudea- The domestic advisor has reported that many of the citizens that live along the border are frightened & uncertain. We must get more fighters and flak cannons deployed there, to bolster their confidence.

1758 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, Egypt's second rubber processing operation has been destroyed. It should be some time before they can start equipping their infantry and machinegunners again.
s679-rubber_pillaged-r.png

1759 A.D.
Military Advisor- I have moved 23 artillery batteries into range of Bortras, to pound on several large Roman formations that are moving towards the city.
King Gudea- Any Roman units that receive casualties or damage will hopefully turn around and go home to heal.

1760 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, a Roman bomber attack at Bortras has left 190,000 citizens dead!! A squadron of fighters and the main courthouse were also destroyed. Our artillery have caused a great number of Roman footsoldiers to turn away, but there is still an enemy detachment ready to assault the city.

s687-romans_inside_wall-r.png

(city bombed down from size-7 to size-4)

King Gudea- Strip down any other garrisons in the area, to reinforce Bortras.
Military Advisor- An additional battalion of infantry can be added to the city garrison. Our artillery barrage caused a lot of damage, but many Roman units are still coming thru unscathed.

1761 A.D.
Military Advisor- Our forces are now stationed along the Arabian border and they have been assigned their targets.
invade_arabia.png

King Gudea- Have the foreign advisor issue a declaration of war, then you may unleash our men and the downfall of Abu will begin.
Gilgamesh- Woohoo!!!

1762 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, the Arabs beat us to the punch. Abu and Caesar have formed an alliance against us; a pact to destroy Sumeria. I received this information seconds before I was to communicate our intentions.
King Gudea- Good thing our forces were all in position!
Military Advisor- Everything is underway. Our divisions have crossed their border and the 4th Army Group is moving towards the Arab shore.

* * * * * *

Operation: Roadblock
Military Advisor- A second aircraft carrier, full of bombers, has been tasked with taking out any roads & bridges leading to Fustat. With squadrons of bombers overhead, the 4th Army Group began it's landing, but was unable to take the hill overlooking the city. With a number of Arabian workers on the hill, our forces instead landed in the valley outside of Fustat.
s691-workers_in_way-r.png

1764 A.D.
Military Advisor- Arab bombers attacked our divisions outside of Fustat and some of our ships out at sea. The flak batteries, of the 11th Infantry Division, made them pay for it and shot down two Arabian bomber squadrons. A large Arab land force and several of their battleships also moved in for a counter-attack.
s699-arabs_show-r.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Our ships out at sea were bombed by Arabia. The carrier & battleship were both seriously damaged and are heading back to port for repairs.
s711-bomber_going_east_explode_carrier.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- As the damaged carrier heads home, the full complement of bombers runs a series of sorties against the Arab battleships. Unfortunately, three squadrons of bombers were shot down by anti-aircraft fire. Back on the land, the 1st Armored Division destroyed Fustat, while losing just one squadron of tanks. With Fustat taken care of, the engineers move atop the hills to build fortifications.
s717-fustat_destroy-r.png

It is strange how that alliance happened. All my units were in position and the next turn I was going to declare war and move in. Hit the end turn button and the alliance between Rome and Arabia happened, but the Arabs did not attack. Arabia comes first in the turn sequence, so they must have made the alliance on Rome's turn and then were unable to act on it.:lol:
It all worked out the same for me.

Way to go. and remember, the longer you advance the less men will die on your side. The only thing you want to hold is the enemies balls. twist his balls and kick his ass, and go through him like **** through a goose.
Good update, great invasion!

Go Takeo! Lets give the Arabs a quick thrashing, and then Lets wipe them Romans of the planet!

Elmo Watch them when they sleep.

Excellent Story! Is it Gudea's goal to take control of the entire world? Or just to destroy Egypt, Rome and Arabia?
Also, a few quick questions...(it's probably in an old post), but what government are you operating under? and what are those of your enemies? Is your war weariness bad? And why whenever you capture enemy cities do you burn and destroy them? Some of them probably have improvements and cultural tools to enable larger borders more quickly. I think keeping these cities would save you time and costs. (Except for the whole resistance thing!)
Other civs probably don't like when you torch other cities. Unless that's what you want...mwahaha (evil laugh)

Regardless, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your great story! Crush your enemies Sumeria!!!

--Gudea's goal is domination of entire world(and possibly beyond;) ). Not just a 66% domination, but 100%.
--Sumeria is under monarchy, cause Gudea wanted the final word on everything. and also no war-weariness.:)
--Those that are at war with Sumeria are all currently in Fascism. The others are in Republic.
--Enemy cities are razed so I can place them where I want them, there is no resistance or major unhappiness, Gudea wants it to be a Sumerian world, no chance whatsoever of flipping and there are loads of upkeep-free workers!

-currently working on an update, be up probably this weekend.

My memory is a big fooggy, did you ever keep a captured city? Even once?

I think he kept Babylon because it had wonders in it. I think every other city was put to the sword!

Crush the fascist pigs King Gudea!

1766 A.D.
The divisions of the 4th Army Group have successfully divided Arabia in two. The bulk of the Arabian military is now caught on the eastern side of the blockade, while on the western side of the nation is picked apart, city by city. The sky overhead quickly fills with warplanes from both sides and a massive air battle takes place.
Military Advisor- Abu made a mistake by sending all of his bombers at the same time. The sky was so thick with enemy bombers, that our flak batteries and fighters were able to shoot down 10 Arab bomber squadrons. It must have been like shooting fish in a barrel! Several of our fighter squadrons lost some planes, but we lost only one full squadron.
s721-airwar-r.png

Military Advisor- The Arab navy is attempting to finish off our damaged carrier & battleship, which are out at sea, as they both limp home for repairs. The escorting destroyers have paid the price, with three of them being sent to the bottom. Some empty transport ships were also sunk.

1768 to 1770 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, I have some bad news about Operation:Roadblock.
King Gudea- Things seemed to be going well. What has happened?
Military Advisor- The carrier, and it's escorts, that stayed behind to provide air cover have all been sunk. Abu concentrated his bombers, several destroyers and 5 battleships on our fleet there.
King Gudea- We lost an entire carrier? What about the air group that was stationed on her?
Military Advisor- There was no place for them to land, and the pilots had to ditch their fighters in the sea. There were many navy personnel and pilots floating in the sea, but enemy fighters strafed them and there were no survivors. We lost the carrier, 8 fighter squadrons, a battleship and 4 destroyers. I felt sick to my stomach when I heard about this.
King Gudea- The list of things that Abu will answer for, just keeps getting longer!

1774 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, one of the towns we 'acquired' from Carthage was attacked by 6 Arab cavalry troops(units).
s748-gigthis_captured.png

King Gudea- Where did these forces come from?
Military Advisor- When the Arabs destroyed the Zulu, they kept Shaka's final city and those conquering forces have been there ever since. This Arab city is located to the south of Gigthis. (white arrow in the minimap)
King Gudea- Is Tacape threatened?
Military Advisor- No, there is a battalion of infantry at Tacape, where there was only 1 company of infantry at Gigthis. We will retake the city, have the surviving citizens pack up and then abandon the city. They will be better protected at Tacape.

* * * * * *

King Gudea- Your science funding will be returned to normal levels now. Tell me, what have you been looking into, on you own?
Science Advisor- We have a theory that all matter is made up of tiny atoms. Using this knowledge, we should be able to take a liquid, a gas or a solid and determine the individual elements of which it is composed of.
King Gudea- Sounds interesting, but do you have any working plans of a military nature?
Science Advisor- We do, but to continue with them, we first need to work out and prove this atomic theory.
King Gudea- Go ahead and work out all your little details, then as soon as you have something more manly or destructive to talk about, you can bring it to my attention.
Science Advisor- As you wish, my King.
(Atomic Theory in 3 turns)

1776 to 1780 A.D.
Military Advisor- Our blockade, near the ruins of Fustat, has come under heavy attack by Arabian land forces. The Arabs focused their attack on the northern hill fortress, which is defended by the 10th Infantry Division and one regiment of the 9th Infantry Division. Our forces took out 6 Arab tank squadrons, 21 machinegun & 2 marine companies before the fortress fell to them.
s767-arabs_take_fortress.png

King Gudea- So, the 10th Infantry Division is gone?
Military Advisor- Yes, the 10th Inf. was destroyed, along with half of the 9th Inf.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- The 1st Armored Division quickly responded, along with help from the remaining 9th Inf. regiment and a few artillery batteries. Out of the Arab forces that captured the fortress, only a small part of one tank squadron survived and retreated.
s782-battle_for_fortress-r.png

Military Advisor- We lost 4 tank squadrons, 2 infantry companies and 2 machinegun companies in the battle. As soon as the Arabs were removed, the 11th Infantry Division moved back into our fortress.

1760 to 1780 A.D.
Military Advisor- While the blockade has kept back the bulk of the Arab military units, our army groups to the west have expanded our territory and have taken Abu's only oil field.
map_arab_conquest.png

Military Advisor- When we built a settlement in place of Pharsalos, we added furs to our supplied luxuries. At Herakleia we sunk a battleship that was caught in port and at Taif there were 4 Arab fighter squadrons destroyed on the runway.
King Gudea- If we took Abu's only source of oil, then how are they coming up with all these tanks?
Military Advisor- I would like to know that myself!
Foreign Advisor- Both Rome and Byzantium have multiple oil fields, so the Arabs have to be trading for it.
King Gudea- Since Rome and Arabia have an alliance against us, I would bet the trade is between them.

1776 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, a large force of Egyptians has scaled the mountains near Lelmra, and is advancing on the city. I have increased the size of the garrison up to a regiment.
s751-egypt_moves_in.png

1780 A.D.
Military Advisor- I think the Romans are trying to destroy our military academy in Akshak. They missed the academy and killed 118,000 citizens and destroyed the marketplace.
King Gudea- Their attacks are all over the place; Caesar apparently is not sure on how he is going to take us down.

* * * * * *

Science Advisor- Sir, we have discovered the secrets of atomic theory and my team is ready to move on to something else. The military advisor has spoken to me about our forces being able to communicate better with each other, while in battlefield conditions. So, we need to develop a way to amplify radio signals and then we will be able to communicate over long distances.
King Gudea- Being able to coordinate our attacks and call in reinforcements would be very helpful. Have at it.

Holy crap. I think you made the landing at Fustat too early. It'll be a long time before the main attacking force links up with them. With no navy or airforce to support them and to bring in reinforcments, it'll be a close call. Try and make peace with Egypt to free up some of your garrison troops. Thats my advice. Great update!

The landing at Fustat was meant to block off the narrow area there to keep arabia from getting thru. Oil was supposed to be off the table for them on the second turn of the war. Well, that didn't work!:lol: They are trading with someone. At the start of the war they had 3 tanks, on the current turn(the turn I'm currently playing, not the turns just posted;) ) they have 67!:eek: Almost this entire game I have been disappointed in the AI's number of units. Not now. Hope I haven't bit off more than I can chew. The AI tank is 50 shields(sumeria's is 100) and the AI tank has blitz and sumerian tank does not. So, the AI is going to have a lot of tanks. Oh, and by the way the military advisor came up with that plan for the Fustat landing.:D Just wait till the next few posts, the situation starts getting more dire.
