The Sumerian Empire

That should really hurt Roman production, having the capital so far away from the "core". The corruption should put the brakes on them.

So your not going to try and extract the airborne unit?

A) It is not possible ingame to send helicopters for extraction.:(
B) They were told when they volunteered, that is was a suicide mission.;)

That should really hurt Roman production, having the capital so far away from the "core". The corruption should put the brakes on them.

The mainland will see a lot of corruption, but Caesar does have a few fairly-large cities on that island and should get some high production there.

Well aware of the helicopter thing, and the volunteer thing. I just mean are you going to have them capture another city and hold there, or are you going walk them out of the area. Just wondering. good execution

Great. Amazing. Now that mainland Rome's prodction is paralyzed, you can go full force on Abu. Revenge shall be sweet.

Are you going to have a picture of Abu executed? It would be cool to see his head on a pike!

A PROCLAMATION
From Caesar XXXVII, Emperor of the Romans, First Citizen of the Republic and Chief Priest of the Roman Religion
To the Senate and the People of Rome
*
I send you solemn greetings and announce with heavy heart that the Sumerians, in violation of all the rules of war and the principles of decent human conduct, have made war on innocent civilians and have destroyed Rome, the ancient and venerable capital of our empire which had endured for centuries as the finest gem of our culture.
*
It was only by the narrowest of measures paid for by the blood of our glorious legions that I and the senior members of our government were able to escape death at the hands of the enemy.
*
We have survived and I promise you that we will continue the fight until every last Sumerian has been driven from our sacred land and King Gudea, the leader of that evil race, stands before you in chains to accept your judgement.
*
Even now, Sumerian heavy bombers continue to rain destruction on our cities. Sumerian tanks menace our border cities, and the Sumerian Navy ventures into our sea. Yet our hearts remain stalwart and our purpose firm.
*
I call on every Roman to continue the fight. Every factory worker must redouble his efforts to produce the means of our salvation. Every legionaire must swear that they will no longer yield as much as one inch of Roman soil to the invader. Every sailor and every airman must claim back the sea and the skies.
*
Our cause is just and the gods favor us; we can do nothing less that prevail. The future of all free men depends on us.
VICTORY or DEATH

I just mean are you going to have them capture another city and hold there, or are you going walk them out of the area.
They have had the captured workers build a fortress on the ruins of Rome, which was also on a hill, and they are attempting to hold out for reinforcements or rescue. A good majority have died though.

Are you going to have a picture of Abu executed? It would be cool to see his head on a pike!
I figured with so much going on in that area of our world, that I would be a bit more subtle in the story. But, he will still pay for the assasination attempt!;)

@7ronin- You are an amazing writer!!! Well done!:goodjob:

@everyone- The next update will be sometime this next week and will hopefully be a large double post and will cover a lot of area/time. And I'm sorry to say that the story needs to end fairly quickly, cause I'm having major problems and errors with my computer. Conquering certain areas of the world will probably be abbreviated and go by quickly, but areas like the Hittite isle and the Roman isle I will attempt to play out in the story as usual. I don't want my computer to crash, lose everything and not be able to finish. So, to be able to finish before my comp bites it, I'm going to try to play thru real quick.

So, to be able to finish before my comp bites it, I'm going to try to play thru real quick.

That's reassuring. It seems that most stories never get close to being finished; we appreciate your dedication.

Something you might consider doing after this is all finished would be to write a tutorial on how you went about developing your story and in particular how you created the accompanying images. I'm sure you've learned a few tricks of the trade and ways to manipulate the game that would help future story "writers."

@Theryman- I'm glad you like the story and have taken the time to read thru it, so please take no offense to this response. I would appreciate it very, very much if you did not refer to me in that way. I believe in one GOD and he is certainly not me! You could call me many other names and I probably wouldn't mind, but please just not that. Thank You very much for understanding!:)

Well, there is really not much to it. I just started out with a handful of plot ideas and the rest of it has been done on the fly. Two of the ideas were- 1)A general starting a rebellion within the empire and 2) An assassination attempt on the king. I just played the game and waited for an appropriate time to insert them in. I had originally planned on my empire splitting in two and having a big internal war. Rome and the Hittites ended up getting pretty powerful on both sides of me. I deemed having a civil war and war with another nation too risky and Gerneral Naram ended up with just one city. With the assassination attempt, I didn't know which nation would do it. At one point I noticed the game had been started with culture win on, when I wanted it to be just conquest. Noticed Arabia had around 50,000 culture and gaining 500/turn. Suddenly Abu was sending assassins and I(or Gudea;) ) had a reason to go thru Egypt, bypass most of Cleo's empire and take out Arabia. I personally think my storytelling is fairly weak, compared to some on this site. Making cool pictures and all the screenshot editing is an attempt on my part to make up for that. Using Paintshop Pro 9 makes editing very easy. Simply, most of the shots used in this story consist of mainly cutting and pasting. With paintshop you can get very precise in what you cut out and you can even erase backgrounds around an object. The other half of it is the problems with my computer. The one that happens most often is what I call a "micro-freeze". When doing anything like moving the curser, when anything is moving on screen, something is being downloaded, everything on the computer screen freezes for 2 to 3 seconds and then starts moving again. I would assume that is how the screenshots of bombers in the air or tanks firng is acquired by paintshop. If I had a comp that was working well or just a fast one(which this one is not) then a lot of these screenshots wouldn't exist. Take the shot in the last update of the bombers going for Rome. If you look close, only the one that is past Rome and the one over Rome are the real screenshots and they were cut and pasted together. Then one of those two bombers was cut out by erasing the background around it, copying the bomber and replicating it. That is all the other bombers that are approaching the city. Having an editing program with lots of tools and just working with it for a while, you will get bette and better. It doesn't have to be paintshop either(it is quite expensive), the are many out there and there is a free one that I have seen people on this site speak of. On tricks and manipulating, I'll save that for a post some other time, this one is getting too lengthy.

Okay then.

You. Are. A. Very. Good. Storyteller.

It loses some of it's impact...

Also, how do I change the build cost for the AI? I would like to face hoards of enemy units, but on anything higher than Monarch, I get trampled by extremely high teching...

In this mod I did it by using different units than the AI. For example- the Sumerian knight was china's UU, the rider, which was left at normal cost. The AI used the normal knight and I set it somewhere around half-price, can't remember the exact number. You could also do it by just adding additional units into a mod and could conceivably have a different cost knight for every nation. The machinegunner was a unit that was added into this mod, but everyone had access to it. I should have made another cheaper one for the AI.

I tried to upload images for next installment, but there was a message that said I have met my quota(of 30mb) and to delete unnecessary files. Well, I'm unwilling to delete any previous images of this story, cause that would leave a big gap in the middle with no pictures!!!

I use photobucket.

Here's some simple instructions.

To post pics directly into the post (like I do with my Journal Entries), here's what I do:

1. Go to Photobucket.com, and set up your free account.
2. Use a Paint program of some sort (I use Paint Shop Pro 5 myself) to do screen captures of your Civ3 (or c3c) game.
3. Exit the game after collecting your screen captures. Remember to save your game first before exiting. . .
4. Go to your Paint program, and look at your screen captures. I'll use one of my pics as an example.
A. I immediately save the pic (as a .jpg) as the Master pic.
B. I use the 'Crop' feature, and 'Crop' my territory (known as the Playing View pic in Journal entries).
C. After cropping, the small pic should be a new pic by itself.
D. I empty the Undo Buffer to make the file as small as possible.
E. I save the new pic as (for example) 'Playing View' as a .jpg .
F. I close the Playing View pic, and reopen the Master pic.
G. I then crop the World Map in the bottom left-hand corner.
H. See step D.
I. I save the new pic as 'World Map' as a .jpg .
J. I close the World Map pic, and re-open the Master pic.
K. I crop the Info screen (bottom right-hand corner).
L. See Step D.
M. I save the new pic as 'Info Screen' as a .jpg .
5. Now you're ready to upload your pics.
A. Get online (duh), and go to PhotoBuckets.com
B. They have a very user-friendly interface which makes it a breeze to upload pics.
6. Now, this may sound a bit strange, but this is how I do it.
A. Open your Word program, and create a new document.
B. Type Playing View: and hit Enter
C. Type World Map: and hit Enter
D. Type Info Screen and hit Enter.
E. SAVE your document before proceeding!
7. You should still be online, and the PhotoBuckets page should be visible.
8. Each of your pics should appear at the bottom of the screen with 3 separate codes. (URL, TAG, and IMG)
9. I click inside the IMG square (which selects the entire IMG link).
10. Hit Control-C to copy.
11. Go to your Word document, and paste the appropriate IMG link on the appropriate line on your document. Do this for all of your pics. See 6E.
12. Now you're in the home stretch . . .
13. Open your new thread, and make a post. When you want to insert your pic into the post, simply copy and paste from your Word document which pic you want. The line look something like: (IMG) (your pic's link here)(/IMG). The ( and ) surrounding IMG are actually [ and ], but I didn't want to confuse the board here.
14. Do this as often as you like, and when you're done, hit 'Preview Post'. I always do. You'll see your post complete with pics.

And there you have it. That's how I do it.

Actually, TF prefers you don't load images, only files. He's easy going, but that takes up a lot of room. If you still have your originals you can put them on photobucket and replace them in your posts and free up some space. Just so you know that's just a suggestion, not asking you to do it at all, I is work and you're just going over old stuff.

The mainland will see a lot of corruption, but Caesar does have a few fairly-large cities on that island and should get some high production there.
But then has to ferry them across. You can probably expect the forces that he has on the mainland will get very few reinforcements- or, at least, that will be the case if you take them over fast. Do not give the Romans time to restart production.
