The Sumerian Empire

How are you going to go about the invasion of the Hittie homeland? Just wondering. I'm hoping to get some good strategies. and what is one of your divisions made up of? Those are my only questions. Good Luck, and Death to Arabia

@Luckymoose, mrtn, Ansar the King, Redman, 502nd PIR, Marsden, AlCosta & D'Artagnan59- Thanks, glad you all like it!:)

@7ronin- Wow!:eek: That's quite a message. You should be writing a bunch of stories here. The Sumerian Navy will indeed play an important role before all is said and done. Several subs do roam international waters and have sunk a few transports, but so far their exploits have been unexceptional and therefore unreported. We'll see if we can remedy that situation.;)

Have not nailed down any definate way of doing that yet, but most likely will take a coastal city with marines. The city will be kept for that turn so that other transports can come in, unload and these incoming units can attack the same turn. Not sure which divisions you were asking about. A division is usually 16 combat units(4 battalions of 4 units each), with 12 of 16 being a primary attack unit like a tank and the other 4 are defensive-usually infantry. Most of the time there is an attached interchangeable battalion that brings the division total to 20 units. This attached battalion is usually artillery, but could also be engineers(workers), scouts, cavalry, flak or anti-tank. On occasion I also go with just 16 attack units, so as not to be slowed down by infantry or artys. I have also been imposing a rule on myself that units of a division can be no more that 1 tile apart-at most 2 tiles. And the division will usually wait for reinforcements before moving forward, or the entire division will go back to a town to heal. I usually keep the 4 divisions of an army group close together also. That's probably more than what you were asking for; I kinda rambled on.:lol:

-Next update will feature an AI having its capital razed.
-Which AI will suffer this humiliation?
-I'll narrow it down for you- the leader is a male.:mischief:

Same here. That was exactly what i was looking for, thanks. Good Luck. And please, don't thank me for enjoying this story.This is seriously my favorite story on Civ fanatics. I need to try something like tihs.

I have found that it works good to send a settler in the pack, land the units, then abandon the enemy city and found the new one right after. Then there is no chance of a flip back. Not that you need me to tell you that.:crazyeye:

How do you keep track of non-army units?

Any units not in a division are usually in one of two places. First would be garrison duty. Each border city normally has 8 units in the garrison and each interior city has at least one unit. That's a lot of units right there, just for garrison duty. Having a unit in each city was a rule I imposed on myself. Second, there is a staging area that I have in the northwest where newly made units go to wait until the division of that unit type is full or until that type of division is needed. Example-this next update will feature the 2nd marine division and the 1st airborne division. As the units for these two divisions were building up to 16 units, the units already made would just wait in the staging area for the rest of the 16 and even when the division was done(full) it would just stay there until needed for the specific task I had for it. Obviously this doesn't apply to armored(or infantry) divisions which head out almost immediately, cause losses are high. My records may not be exactly right, but I think there have been 4 armored divisions completely destroyed and 10 infantry divisions completely destroyed. These stacks of units in this staging area are also used as reinforcements to replace losses in existing divisions or in garrisons.

@Marsden-Yes, I was going to take along a settler, but probably would not have used it right away. Can cities flip on the first turn?

I don't think there is a restriction on flipping back on the first interturn, but I'm not sure. I've had a few go back pretty quickly tho'. Enough to never want to try to hold on to one that flipping could hurt me. As in losing a lot of units suddenly.

Military Advisor- Commander, the Roman attack on Ambria was followed by a secondary attack on Svivren.
s960-svivren_att.png

Military Advisor- The regiment of infantry at Svivren was pounded on by 17 Roman tank squadrons and was eventually overwhelmed. After capturing the city, the Romans sent another 15 tank squadrons up around Apisala, but it looks like they are going to bypass it.

King Gudea- They may be trying to get at our thinly-protected interior.
Military Advisor- I agree. They are also targeting our radar towers as they move along.
King Gudea- I'm getting tired of this! I want a strike on Rome ASAP, to cut the head off of this monster.
Military Advisor- Sir, are you speaking of the nation or its capital?
King Gudea- I want the city of Rome in flames and Caesar along with it!
Military Advisor- Rome is deep within their territory. It will take some time to fight our way there.
King Gudea- No, I want to got straight for Rome. Caesar will not be expecting that and will be unprepared. Send out the word to all our forces and national recruiting stations, to garner volunteers for this mission. Tell them upfront that it is a one-way suicide mission, in order to take out Caesar.
Military Advisor- I will start planning the mission as soon as we have taken back Svivren.

Military Advisor- After the way was cleared by the 1st Army Group, the "liberators" blasted their way into Svivren. The rescued citizens were cheering so loud that I bet they could be heard at Leptis Minor!

Military Advisor- My King, everything has been prepared and we are ready to commence with Operation:Guillotine. The volunteers for this mission were overwhelming. Once we had enough troops to fill up our transport helicopters, we began turning volunteers away. I formed all these forces into 2 divisions and two additional battalions.
King Gudea- What kind of units will be going on this mission?
Military Advisor- I have formed them into the 2nd Marine Division, the 1st Anti-Tank Division and two infantry battalions. There is also the 1st Airborne Division, which did not need to volunteer cause they are trained specifically for this type of mission.
King Gudea- You may commence with the operation.

Military Advisor- Rome is not within range of our bombers & helicopters, so we need to take out 3 Roman cities to get us a little closer. The 1st Army Group has moved in to destroy them.
s967-att_on_roman_border.png

Military Advisor- Once Rusicade had been demolished by the 11th Armored Division, our engineers set up a temporary airfield that will be in range of Rome.
s968-airfield_location.png

Military Advisor- All of our helicopters, jets and 30 bomber squadrons are then relocated to the airfield. I had the 1st Infantry fortify there for protection and all other participating forces began loading onto the helicopters.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- After the bombers and jets had refueled, they took off to bomb Rome and hopefully destroy any Roman interceptors.
s981-bomber_att_rome.png

Military Advisor- The bombing run destroyed the city barracks, library, university, market and thousands of Roman citizens. The jet escorts were able to easily shoot down 3 Roman fighter squadrons.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Before the Romans could recover from the massive bombing raid, the 1st Airborne dropped in and encircled the city.
s983-paradrop.png

Military Advisor- Now with a secure LZ, the rest of our forces are ferried in by helicopter. We must have done incredible damage to their airforce, cause they have no presence in the air at all.
s985-heli.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- The Romans then counter-attacked, trying to break thru our encirclement. They repeatedly attacked some paratroopers that were north of the city(yellow arrow). The paratroopers held on as long as they could, taking out 2 Roman tank squadrons and an infantry company, but eventually they fell.
s990-roman_counter.png

Military Advisor- A Roman armored motorcade quickly burst out of Rome and thru the hole in the encirclement, then it headed for the port city of Nicomedia.
s991-roman_armored_motorcade.png

Military Advisor- We believe that Caesar may have been in this motorcade.
King Gudea- He's running with his tail between his legs.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Over half of the 2nd Marine Division is lost while taking Rome. Caesar was not found, so he must have escaped.
s995-rome_razed.png

Military Advisor- Our spy confirms that Caesar has indeed escaped and has moved his flag to Hispalis, on the Roman island.
s994-hispalis.png

King Gudea- They say Rome wasn't built in a day, but it sure was razed in one.
Military Advisor- Ha Ha!
