The Sumerian Empire

Why does everyone always slap Cleo around? Some civs just never catch a break.

Science Advisor- There has been much demand to create an oil-based fuel for various consumer & industrial applications. Therefore, we would like to put research time into developing a large-scale technique for breaking down, or refining, crude oil.
King Gudea- Was the kerosene lamp, you showed me the other day, running off of this fuel?
Science Advisor- Yes, the kerosene is one type of fuel. We should also be able to develop several other types of fuel, for other applications.
King Gudea- Your scientific funding will continue.
Science Advisor- Thank you, my King.
(Hittites have Fascism, Arabia has Communism)

1610 A.D.
Military Advisor- Supreme Commander, the 1st Army Group(AG) is moving into position against the Carthaginian cities of Bursa, Sinop and Cadiz. The 2nd & 3rd Infantry Divisions have been assigned to Sinop, which is on a hill. The 2nd Inf. Div. will advance to within artillery range and begin shelling the city, while the 3rd moves in for the assault.
s557-new_attacks.jpg

Foreign Advisor- Our relations with Egypt are severely strained. Do we need to continue attacking Carthage?
King Gudea- Once we destroy these 3 cities, we will have enough room to found a number of new towns. After that, I may consider granting peace. But till then let Cleopatra whine and cry.
Military Advisor- In case we need it, the 3rd Army Group of four Infantry Divisions is ready to be deployed where needed and the 2nd Army Group is already forming a blockade on the border with Egypt.
King Gudea- The 2nd AG is all cavalry, right?
Military Advisor- Yes, that AG is entirely cavalry. They are a bit outdated, but their mobility can still be very useful.

1620 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, the 1st Infantry Division has reached Bursa and reduced it to rubble.
s558-bursa_razed.jpg

Later that day, the foreign advisor came running into the throne room with some very urgent and very unwelcome news. After catching his breath for a few seconds, he sputtered out the important message.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, the Egyptians have declared war on us! Cleopatra must have spies watching our troop movements and reported back about our razing of Bursa.
King Gudea- Looks like she is going to back up her rhetoric with force.
s560-egypt_declares_war.jpg

Military Advisor- Cleopatra obviously had her troops set up for this, cause they have already crossed the border and punched a hole in the blockade.
s566-egypt_advance.jpg

Military Advisor- I have ordered the 3rd Army Group to that border and to attack as soon as it arrives. The blockading cavalry of the 2nd Army Group will be pulled inside the cities there and can also be used to supplement the counter-attack.
King Gudea- Do you have an up-to-date army list on Egypt?

Later-
Military Advisor- Here is the most recent Egyptian army totals that we have on record.
s563-egypt_army_total.jpg

King Gudea- They do not look very strong.
Military Advisor- I agree. We should be able to handle their attack and then gradually move in to destroy their cities. The 3rd Army Group, that I just ordered in that direction, is our strongest yet. Each division in the 3rd AG consists of 3 battalions of machinegunners, 1 battalion of infantry and an attached battalion of artillery. I am confidant that we will not only hold off their attack, but wipe it out of existence!
King Gudea- Very good! I will waiting for the report on this battle.

1625 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, the Zulu nation has bit the dust.
King Gudea- Hmmmm, Arabia has taken out two nations. We may need to restrain them here in the near future.

1585 to 1625 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- Your Grace, we have added 8 new towns to our empire in the area the Carthaginians 'vacated'.
King Gudea- Excellent!

More excellent work! Thank you for continuing the story, Takeo! The pictures are very good. Did Egypt really declare on you, or did you manipulate it to happen for the story?

Wow. I really thought Eygpt would have a bigger army considerin their badmouthing of the world superpower  . Could I see the histograph?

Let me put it this way- if I was playing just to win and finish the game, it would have been done several months ago, but I am trying to tell a story and sometimes capitalize on something that happens in the game and build up story around it. Did that happen here?:mischief:

I would say that Rome is the superpower among the AI at this time. Caesar has over 100 machinegunners the last time I looked. Which histograph? Score, power or culture? Probably power?

@mrtn, Marsden, D'Artagnan59 and Nate128- Thanks for the approval, I like playing the game and making up the story, but may favorite part is editing all the screenshots and coming up with some cool pictures.:)

1625 A.D.
The Sumerian campaign against Carthage has severely weakened foreign relations with Egypt and Cleopatra herself has expressed her disapproval of the war. King Gudea ignored the threats and continued with the decimation of the Carthaginian empire. When the Carthage city of Bursa was razed, Cleopatra decided it was time to take matters into Egyptian hands. After a declaration of war, the Egyptian forces poured into Sumerian territory and attacked the cavalry divisions blockading there. At the same time that Cleopatra's troops broke thru the blockade, some Sumerian reinforcements arrived.

The Battle of Riverside Hill
Military Advisor- Supreme Commander, the 3rd Army Group has arrived to take on the Egyptian attackers.
s571-3rd_army_group.png

Military Advisor- The 5th Infantry Division was the first into battle and secured a hill just north of the city of Riverside Hill. They then attacked the leading Egyptian formation.
s572-5th_attacks.png

Military Advisor- We won this stage of the battle, at the expense of 5 machinegun companies(units). Some of the Egyptians attempted to retreat, but were taken out with help from the 2nd Cavalry Division.
s573-egypt_retreats.png

Military Advisor- The 6th Infantry Div. moved directly into the city, then bombarded the second Egyptian formation, before attacking.
s574-6th_attacks.png

Military Advisor- Once again the Egyptian forces ran, with their tail between their legs. With an assist from the 2nd Cavalry Div., the fleeing enemy was cut down. Our losses were a bit lighter here, with two machinegun and one cavalry company lost.
s575-egypt_retreats.png

Military Advisor- The hill directly south of the city was then taken by the 7th Infantry.
s576-7th_attacks.png

Military Advisor- This third Egyptian formation could not withstand the sustained shower of bullets from above. Only one enemy unit managed to flee this time. There was an odd report from this part of the battle. Our troops claimed to have captured an ancient trebuchet and for some reason were quite happy about it.
s577-treb_captured.png

Military Advisor- The 8th Infantry Div. then confronted another enemy formation.
s578-8th_attacks.png

Military Advisor- The Egyptian formation was easily routed, with the loss of just one machinegun company. The 1st Cavalry Div. ran down a few that tried to escape.
s579-egypt_retreats.png

Military Advisor- There are two Egyptian formations that we did not confront. We are waiting for this one to cross the river, before we launch an attack.
s580-footsoldiers_river.png

Military Advisor- And we will wait for these to come down off the mountain.
s581-footsoldiers_mtn.png

King Gudea- Except for the two groups of footsoldiers, the Egyptian attack has been eradicated! Great Job! Cleopatra thought she could teach us a lesson, but we taught her one instead.
Military Advisor- That we did. Once all four divisions are reinforced, they will advance into enemy territory.
