The Sumerian Empire

This is getting interesting! I hope those AI's can keep up with their tank production :D

1794 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- Sir, we are now at war with the whole world!
carth_hitt_alliance.png

King Gudea- War would have been declared on them eventually anyway, so might as well bring it on now. Today it is Sumeria vs. the world and some day the whole world will be Sumerian only. The Hittites are just one more stepping-stone to that point.
Military Advisor- With being stuck on several islands, Mursilis will not be bothering us too much. We should be able to deal with him at the time of our choosing.
Domestic Advisor- My King, the Hittites broke a number of deals that they had going with us. We have lost out on almost a 100 gold a year from Mursilis.
King Gudea- The foreign advisor did inform me that Mursilis was a known cheat and a liar, before we made all these deals. So, it is not much of a surprise that this happened.

1796 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, our northern fleet has run across several Roman convoys, on their way to our shores. Our battleships sunk 5 frigates, a galleon, a transport and a cruiser.
King Gudea- Caesar is still using sailing ships?
Military Advisor- Yes, his naval forces are certainly not up to par. I must also inform you that our airforce base(airport) at Corsin was destroyed by a Roman bombing raid. Most of our bombers survived; they just don't have a runway to take off on. It is quickly being rebuilt, as we speak.

s860-byz_egyp_vs_rome.png

Military Advisor- This should take a little pressure off of us. Caesar's forces will be divided between us and the Byzantines.
King Gudea- When it gets to the point that we can easily hold off Roman advances, then go back to sending all new divisions down to the Arabian theatre.
Military Advisor- It will be done, my King.

1798 A.D.
Military Advisor- Sir, we are seeing only scattered skirmishes with the Romans now. Most of their forces have pulled back to deal with the Byzantines.
King Gudea- I sure would like to hit them, while their attention is focused elsewhere, but we need to finish off the Arabians.
Military Advisor- I agree.

1804 A.D.
Domestic Advisor- My King, the engineers at Kisurra have constructed a giant hydroelectric power plant, that harnesses the power of Alalgar river. This power plant and dam are large enough to generate electrical power for the entire nation!
King Gudea- Excellent! Set up a tour for me.
(Hoover Dam built in Kisurra)

caesar_abu_spies.png

Military Advisor- Our enemies are getting desperate to garner info on us and to steal our secrets.
King Gudea- Our Intelligence Agency should be commended for the job they are doing at stopping these covert infiltrations.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Sir, as our forces were moving in on Corinth & Mycenae, we received a desperate message from the general of the 4th Army Group. He reported that they were under heavy attack by Arab forces and his position was about to fall. His communique was abruptly cut off and there has been only static since.
King Gudea- So, the 4th Army Group is gone?
Military Advisor- Yes, it has been destroyed. And given that information, I had the 1st & 3rd Army Groups block off the area they are in, prior to assaulting Corinth and Mycenae.
s869-blockade.png

1806 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, we have been discreetly contacted by a Roman town on our border. The mayor of Lauriacum says he no longer agrees with Caesar's policies.
King Gudea- Caesar is just full of tricks! Turn these "rebels" away, with a few well-placed bullets in their backsides.

* * * * * *

Science Advisor- Sir, we have developed some advanced aviation techniques and now have new ways to insert our units deep into enemy territory.
King Gudea- Can't wait to see how our paratroopers work out! In the meen time, I want radar towers built near each of our border cities.
Military Advisor- Yes, my King.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Commander, the Arab military units that had been held up by the 4th Army Group, have slammed into our forces at Corinth & Mycenae. The 3rd Infantry Division was completely destroyed and the 4th Armored Division was very nearly destroyed, with only two infantry companies & the artillery surviving! The captured artillery batteries of the 3rd Infantry were then turned upon our own troops.
arab_breakout.png

King Gudea- That is a big blow, losing 30 military units in one battle. Is the assault on these two cities going to be delayed?
Military Advisor- The 3rd Army Group was already down to two armored divisions, when it headed in for Corinth. Now, with only 1 division to it's name, the 3rd AG will need to retreat to a nearby mountain and wait for reinforcements. The 7th and 8th Armored Divisions will fill that role and are now on their way there. The 1st Army Group will continue with the assault on Mycenae. Not only are both these cities two of the largest in the world, but they are both brimming with defenders. Only two of their tank squadrons were destroyed in the attack, out of the 25 tank squadrons, 2 tank armies and 6 cavalry troops(units) that Abu sent against us. After the battle, all of their surviving units pulled back into these two cities. This is going to be a tough fight!

Snap! They're acctuly doing a decent job at defending themselfs! Wonderfull update! Down with Arabia and the other 5!

I won't have another update ready for a few day, maybe even next weekend, so I figured I'd give you something to chew on. This next post will start the modern age for Sumeria. To show the evolution of military units in wartime, to show how uniforms and equipment change over time and to just keep from seeing a modern unit fighting an ancient unit(which I don't like), I have messed around with the pediaicons file. Several units will now be accessing different unit folders to show a kind of upgrade of different units. The following picture shows some of the changes. The left is the original unit and the right is what it will look like now. The stats and abilities stay the same, of course. The ship at the bottom is supposed to be an early destroyer and any early combat ship, like the ironclad, will now look like this. All transport-style ships will now look like the modern transport. Now, we won't have to see a battleship sink a galley!:lol: There are several 'new' units not shown here that will be part of a mercenary band that Sumeria hires.
(picture deleted-sorry!)

(How you hire mercs tho?)

I put 3 different mercenary-type units into the mod and one of them is in the above picture. The "hiring" of mercs is all story.;)

Dude! The Modern infantry looks so awsome! I'm looking forward to the next update. Just wandering, are you gonna form an airborne division, or marine division, or mostly gonna stick with tanks, and infantry? just curious.

They're good, but Heavy bombers in the WWII in the pacific scenario. I just like infantry. I don't know why. I just do. But i'll concur. All those units look really good. I'm looking forward to the continuation of the war. Oh yeah, and a recomendation, Since you'll apparently have a good Modern Infantry unit (unlike normal marines) I'd recommend an airmobile (helicopter borne) division rather than airborne. DEATH TO THOSE WHO OPPOSE GUDEA!!!

The 1st Marine Division will take action this coming update or the next one. There will be an airborne division, but the 1st unit of that is not even trained yet. Helicopters will also be in the mix.:)

The Halftrack and Heavy Bombers are coolest.

The Heavy Bomber is from the WWII scenario and the halftrack is from the creation forum here. Glad you like the new unit looks. It is nice having a little flavor added in, instead of seeing the same unit for a long time.

1804 A.D.
Military Advisor- The Romans, knowing that most of our forces are engaged with Arabia & Egypt, now have most of their forces fighting against the Byzantines. But, the Roman Air Force continues to pound on Corsin. A number of important structures have been destroyed in these Roman raids and thousands of Sumerian citizens have died.
s896-corsin_factory.png

King Gudea- What can we do to improve our air defense?
Military Advisor- We have 4 flak batteries and 3 fighter squadrons dedicated to Corsin. Maybe we should increase the number of these interceptor squadrons.
Science Advisor- I've got an idea. You have used crude explosive rockets in battle for a number of years now, but they have largely been inaccurate and therefore ineffective. My colleagues and I think we can build larger, more deadly rockets and with some kind of guidance system for accuracy.
King Gudea- Excellent! Get to work. I'm eager to see more Roman bombers falling from the sky.
(Rocketry in 10 turns)

1806 A.D.
Military Advisor- When our blockade was attacked and the 3rd Infantry Division was destroyed, a number of Arabs slipped thru the gap. The 6th Armored Division was called in to defend Wistril, from the 13 Arab guerilla irregulars and 7 infantry companies that were approaching the city. The few Arabs that the 6th did not finish off were in such disarray and confusion, that they fell easily to the flamethrower companies that then showed up.

1806 to 1808 A.D.
The attack on the Arab city of Mycenae has commenced, with a huge bombing raid to soften up the defenses. The squadrons of Bomber Command 2, located at Zebitrope, were able to destroy the city barracks, harbor, temple and a huge chunk of the population.
s881-bombers_mycenae.png

With the bombers having done their part, the 1st Army Group begins their assault.
att_on_mycenae.png

The Arab defense is strong in numbers with 15 tank squadrons, 7 infantry companies and 4 cavalry troops. The 2nd & 5th Armored Divisions lose only 7 tank squadrons, while taking out most of the garrison. The 1st Infantry Division completes the attack and is able to take the city.
s893-mycenae_razed.png

Military Advisor- The 3rd Army Group is moving in on Corinth, bolstered with the arrival of the 7th & 8th Armored Divisions.
King Gudea- Awesome! We lost very little compared to the Arabs.
Military Advisor- Corinth may be a different story; there are even more defenders there and the city is located on a hill.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- An Arab transport passed into our territory, near Marathon's Reach, but ultimately dropped a halftrack army off next to the Egyptian city of Zohak. These two nations have been at war for some time, but I had not seen evidence of it till now.
arab_att_on_zohak.png

Military Advisor- There was an even bigger scare when 22 Egyptian tanks passed right by Kubindi(white arrow), on their way to save their city. These tanks will be coming back thru, so a regiment of infantry has been added to the garrison of Kubindi. We are going to have deal with these tanks, so we had better come up with something. There are other Egyptian tanks approaching Namta and the 6th Armored Division will be heading there next, so the 6th probably won't be available for action at Kubindi.

* * * * * *

Foreign Advisor- Sir, there have been a number of alliances formed among all the other nations.
Military Advisor- The Arabs have been trading for oil from either the Byzantines or the Romans. If it was the Byzantines, then Arab tank production should go downhill.
alliances.png

1810 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, an Egyptian tank army and 4 additional tank squadrons have attacked Namta, killing 3 of our infantry companies. The 6th Armored Division arrived to fight them off and destroyed all the attackers.
s909-egypt_att_on_namta.png

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- We have a problem, my King. The Egyptian tanks have dealt with the Arab army and are now heading back for Kubindi. All of our forces are engaged and the garrison at Kubindi will not hold off those numbers.
King Gudea- The 6th Armor can't make it there?
Military Advisor- No, they just finished fighting at Namta and a lot of their tanks need repairs and service. We do have an option though. A mercenary army called the 'Purple Heart Brigade' has offered up it's services and it is lead by a retired Sumerian general. I think his name is Alden.
King Gudea- General Alden.......General Alden......didn't he lead our forces in the hunt for that traitor-General Naram?
Military Advisor- Yes, he and his men personally captured Naram and brought him back for execution.
King Gudea- What is he asking as payment?
Military Advisor- Normally he hires out his army for 200 gold per military unit and that is usually just for one battle. Having served you in the past, he is offering his services for 100 gold per unit. He also wanted me to tell you that he has never taken a job against Sumeria and never will.
King Gudea- How many units does he have ready for battle?
Military Advisor- He has a combination of tank squadrons and soldier companies, for a total of 27 units prepared for battle.
King Gudea- That is 2700 gold......hmmmmm......he is a good man, pay him his asking price and send them in.
egyptian_sod.png

Military Advisor- The Purple Heart Brigade has moved in to engage the Egyptians. Their attack is centered around 2 powerful tank destroyers. If you remember, we passed on building any of these tank destroyers, because they were cumbersome and slow. Alden must have modified them in some way or is working around their drawbacks.
purple_heart_assault.png

Military Advisor- The Purple Heart Brigade has done the job and completely wiped out the Egyptian tanks.
King Gudea- How many units did Alden lose?
Military Advisor- He did not reveal his losses, but wanted me to tell you he is thinking of ending his mercenary ways and fighting exclusively for Sumeria for free.
King Gudea- I'm very interested in hearing of his decision.
Military Advisor- I will keep you posted.
