The Sumerian Empire

Saturday!? That is today! Your great story makes up for the fact that you are from Kentucky.

Unless you live in North Western Kentucky, then it adds to your awesomeness.

1850 to 1860 A.D.
A surprise attack on the city of Rome has ended with Caesar fleeing the continent and his capital burned to the ground. This sudden absence of leadership has put the Roman military into confusion and disarray. Seizing the opportunity, the Sumerian 1st Army Group has smashed into the former Roman heartland, in an attempt to reach the survivors of Operation:Guillotine. City after city quickly falls to the Sumerian onslaught; each victory one step closer to the ruins of Rome. With the destruction of Veii, a clear path home is revealed for 11 paratrooper companies and the 1 marine company that have survived(the A on the map). Emboldened by all their success, the 9th Armored Division pushed too far ahead of the other divisions and was threatening Neapolis. At this point the Romans were more organized and launched a counter-attack on the isolated 9th Armor. Roman tanks surrounded and obliterated the entire division(the B on the map).

1862 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- My King, the Romans have begun peace negotiations with Arabia.
Military Advisor- That is bad news! Abu could potentially have access to oil again.

1866 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, we have secured the massive diamond mines of Baghdad.
s1026-baghdad_razed.png

Military Advisor- We encountered TOW infantry during the battle and the 12th infantry was attacked by Arab tanks.
King Gudea- So, is Caesar once again selling oil to Abu?
Foreign Advisor- Don't know for sure, the oil could come from Rome or Byzantium.
Military Advisor- If it is Theodora, why did Abu wait so long to procure it? Either way, once we take out a few more Arabian harbors, there will be no more oil shipments.

1868 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- The Byzantines have declared war on Rome and they have captured a couple of cities. Theodora apparently used the right-of-passage agreement to move her forces into position before beginning the attack.
Military Advisor- Looks like we will not have to watch for any more Byzantine invasions.
King Gudea- Well, at least not until we take out mainland Rome, but at that time she will actually be watching for an attack from us.

1862 to 1868 A.D.
Foreign Advisor- My King, the frequency of covert operations against us has increased recently.
s1024-spy_stuff.png

Military Advisor- We lost most of our progress on the nuclear missile, but at least we won't have to start again from scratch.
King Gudea- Increase security throughout the city of Kisurra and make sure Abu's package is ready on time.
Military Advisor- Already on it, my King.

1874 A.D.
Military Advisor- The Arabs are attempting to dash past our border garrison, towards our lightly-defended interior.
s1029-arab_tanks.png

King Gudea- I know it is unnecessary to ask how far they made it.
Military Advisor- Not very far, my King.
King Gudea- How many cities does Abu have left?
Military Advisor- There are four Arabian cities left, including their capital. I am also happy to report that the tactical nuclear missile is ready. The range is not very long, so we will need to construct a temporary lauchsite in range of Mecca.
King Gudea- Will it completely destroy the city?
Science Advisor- The warhead is powerful enough to destroy at least half the city and just as much of the population. We are looking into possibility of a more powerful version.
King Gudea- I've been considering keeping the remains of Mecca, seeing as how we also kept Thebes.
Military Advisor- If this missile will not destroy everything, then how will we finish off their military, when there is all this radiation from the explosian?
Science Advisor- I think we can outfit our soldiers with radiation suits and they could survive within the blast area for a short time.
King Gudea- Won't the radiation eventually kill off all the surviving inhabitants?
Military Advisor- Knowing that someone sabotaged our missile, the world obviously knows of our new weapon. The Arabs probably have bomb shelters to survive in.
King Gudea- Yes, we will have to send men in. Make sure some radiation-proof equipment is ready for the assault, just in case part of the city is left.
Science Advisor- Right away, my King.

1878 A.D.
Military Advisor- Supreme Commander, the Arabs have been reduced down to Mecca.
King Gudea- You may deliver the package to Abu. If there is anything left, I wish to keep it as a monument to a worthy adversary.
Military Advisor- I will report back when I hear of the delivery.
s1031-tact_missle_mushroom.png

1880 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, the tactical nuclear missile is a spectacular weapon! Over half of the city and it's population were destroyed. Soldiers from the 12th infantry division were then sent in, wearing the new experimental combat radiation suit. They finished off the remains of the Arab military.
s1034-mecca_is_captured.png

King Gudea- Did Abu sign for his package?
Military Advisor- The epicenter of the blast was apparently very near the palace of Abu; He and his entire staff were incinerated. What little remains of the city has been secured and is now in your hands.
King Gudea- Good Job!! I may need another one of those special packages for ol' Caesar.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Here are our losses in the war with Arabia. The totals are for soldier companies and tank/aircraft squadrons.
arab-sumer_losses.png

King Gudea- As each enemy nation falls, the numbers keep getting larger. The Sumerian people have paid a great price for all these conflicts.
Domestic Advisor- The nation as a whole fully supports you, supports the wars that they are fighting and supports the complete eradication of all the fascists.
King Gudea- How long will it take to set up an operation to take on Mursilis?
Military Advisor- Long enough to refit & repair the 3rd Army Group. The 1st Marine Division & all available transport ships are already in position and ready to go. We will initiate the attack with a full salvo of cruise missiles to soften up the garrison of Kanesh.

Worldmap, ca. 1880 A.D.
worldmap_1180ad.png

(The blue crosshairs are centered on the city where the 1st Marine Division will launch from, to attack Kanesh. The Hittite empire is located on the two islands of the interior sea.)

1882 A.D.
Military Advisor- The 3rd Army Group is assembled and ready to attack the Hittites.
King Gudea- You may begin the attack.
Military Advisor- The Hittite capital, Aleppo, is a heavily-fortified metropolis, so we will instead go in against Kanesh.

* * * * * *

Military Advisor- Our missile cruiser has moved into range and fired off over a dozen cruise missiles, at the Kanesh garrison. The 1st Marine Division is racing in behind cover of the barrage.
s1036-cruise_att.png

The 1st Marine Division greatly benefited from the missile barrage and met no initial opposition from enemy artillery. The Hittite shore defenses soon shook off the effects of the bombardment and began to range in their guns, just as the first wave of marines reached the beach. The marines of the 2nd battalion were the first to touch the ground and were immediately engulfed in fire from Hittite mortars and machineguns. When the 1st & 3rd battalions reached the beach, there were already many dead marines splayed out in the sand. These two fresh battalions moved into flanking positions and soon the small Hittite garrison was overwhelmed.
s1036-marines_att.png

Military Advisor- My King, we have razed Kanesh and a beachhead outpost was quickly erected. The 3rd and 8th Armored Divisions and 1 regiment of the 12th Infantry then disgorged from their transports. The 3rd Armor immediately moved out for Hubishna, while the 8th Armor assaulted Aleppo. The great-grandson of Meskiaggasher lead the attack and the 8th managed to destroy the city with very light losses.
King Gudea- Excellent!
s1041-aleppo_razed.png

Military Advisor- In hindsight, it may have been a mistake to attack Kanesh first, cause it alerted Mursilis to our invasion and he was able to escape.
King Gudea- There are only so many places he can hide. Why were only 2 tank divisions taken in for the attack?
Military Advisor- Someone failed to report how many transports were sunk in the war with Arabia. There were only enough transports to bring over the 1st Marine Division, the 2 armored divisions and half of the 12 Infantry Division. The rest of the 12th, the 13th Armor & the CCHQ will come over in the next wave.

1884 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, the 3rd Armored Division was nearly destroyed in a counter-attack. A Hittite halftrack army & 6 tank armies obliterated all but one squadron of the 3rd Armor.
s1046-hitt_counter.png

Military Advisor- I have recalled the 8th Armor back to the beachhead. The remaining tank squadron of the 3rd attempted a fighting withdrawel, but did not make it. I will send over the newly-formed 15th Armor, to replace the 3rd. The 1st Infantry Division has also been transferred from the 1st Army Group to the 3rd AG. The reason being it's the only infantry div. not to be mechanized yet and can be flown over by helicopter.

1886 A.D.
Military Advisor- The transports, carrying the rest of the 3rd AG, were nearing the beachhead when the 6 Hittite tank armies & a regiment of infantry showed up.
s1060-hitt_att_beach.png

Military Advisor- We lost 6 mech infantry squadrons in the attack; the half of the 12th Infantry that came in the first wave is almost gone. As the Hittites were maneuvering for a second attack, the transports arrived at the beachhead. The 13th Armor shot out of the outpost, slammed into the Hittite armies and ended up losing 11 of her 16 squadrons. After several major battles, the enemy units were no match for the fresh 15th Armor and were all cut to smithereens.

1890 A.D.
Military Advisor- Reinforcements have arrived to fill out all divisions of the 3rd Army Group and once organized they head out towards Ugarit.
King Gudea- Hopefully the HIttites have spent all their built-up forces.

1894 A.D.
Military Advisor- My King, I have some important news, both good and bad.

King Gudea looked down at the floor, lost in thought for a few moments, then asked-
King Gudea- Have the Hittites pushed back our attack?
Military Advisor- No, my news is not about that particular front.
King Gudea- It must be about Rome then.
Military Advisor- On one part it is. The Romans have been eliminated from the mainland and they exist only on their island.
King Gudea- Good! Now it is only Sumeria and the Byzantines on this continent. I've read your previous reports, which tell the Byzantine forces are very weak. Theodora and her empire will soon be broken. Now tell me the bad news.
Military Advisor- Theodora obviously knew that her forces could not stand up to us. So, she came up with a very audacious plan to hold us off. It all started when we liberated Tacape from the Byzantines.
King Gudea- We lost that city to her back in 1790, right?
Military Advisor- Yes, and after taking it back we moved the 13th Infantry Division in. One regiment fortified in the town and the other regiment took up position inside the neighboring fortress.
King Gudea- This doesn't sound like bad news. What is this 'plan' you spoke of?
Military Advisor- Theodora had a plan to seperate her part of the continent from ours and her forces buried an unknown number of tons of TNT deep under Tacape and under the fortress. Once we had moved the 13th Infantry in, the TNT was detonated. But, fortunately for us, the explosives under the fortress malfunctioned and did not go off.
s1070-tacape_explodes.png

Military Advisor- We lost all 8 mech infantry that were fortified there in the town. The town is gone and such a huge crater was created that the sea has flowed in and filled it up.
King Gudea- She was attempting to blow up the bottleneck, let the ocean flow into the gap and cut us off?
Military Advisor- It looks that way, doesn't it?
King Gudea- She must realize that we will get to her one way or another. All she could really do is slow us down, but she failed.
s1071-sea_fills_in.png

King Gudea- What about the rest of the TNT?
Military Advisor- Engineers were sent in to retrieve all detonating devices and then the TNT was dug out and removed. Meanwhile, the rest of the 1st Army Group has moved into Byzantine territory and is bearing down on several cities.

1894 to 1902 A.D.
Military Advisor- Commander, the 3rd Army Group has finished off the western Hittite island. The city of Ugarit was very tough, being defended by 17 military units and another tank army. We lost over a regiment of tank squadrons in bringing that city down.

That area is completely filled in with Sumerian cities.:) A lot of worker hours went into cleaning up the mess around Mecca.

Nicely done. I enjoy reading player stories. One question: how do you insert the picutres. I tried with my current story but only get a link?
