While this isn't strictly a Windows XP security issue, it is related to the Microsoft .Net vision and XP is the first incarnation of that vision. Looks like the next version of Office is going to make the Windows XP RegWorm seem like a real walk in the park. This version of Office (code named Office NGO) will work like cable television: you get to pay a monthly or yearly fee, and get spam and commercials to boot! Well, the spam and commercials aren't part of the official offering, but what do you think will actually happen? And get this, you can still buy a full version of Office, but if you want fixes to their buggy software (many of which they know about when they release the product), you have to pay a subscription fee! We have let the evil Microsoft into our homes, it has affected our children! We must drive them out!
There are many way we can do it!!
1) Get copy of older non-evil versions of MS Office. (Like I run 2k) Which I payed for.
2) Get an alternative Office Suite. Like Corel Office (Which I also have), Star Office (Linux), or Lotus.
3) Hell....use Notepad if you have to!!
4) By an iMac. And don't use Office v.X for the Mac!!
5) Stop using computers all together.
6) Suit up your children and use them as Sucide Bombers to attack the Microsoft Complex.
*Oh wait...we are trying to save the children.*
Disregard that last statement, unless you can not perform the others.
Anyway....On a serious note...I think this is a BAD step! I have a hard enough time paying ISP's for my internet hook-up, I won't pay a monthly cost for software!
