It is an important warning signal to those that do not wish to contract venereal disease.
Out of interest, how old are all these tattoo-loathing people? That kind of reaction is to be expected from those of an older generation, no doubt, but it's unusual to find some under thirty- as I assume most posters here to be- with such a vocal distaste for them.

There's no need to be so defensive. I merely meant to observe that it is a position more common among older generations, and so wondered if age was in any way related to the opposition shown to the practice. Certainly, the comment was not aimed at you in particular. There are people under 30 who think further ahead than just the next weekend.
Isn't rather insulting to simply assume such motives? You're simply choosing to see the worst in people. Certainly, the instant disregard for all thoughts of self-expression in favour of these rather venomous accusations of affection paints you as a rather jaded and cynical individual. That's not to say that it is impossible to make a reasoned argument for your position, but I'm afraid that you are really failing to do so.Tattoos are nothing but a sad attempt at individualisation in a materialistic society where nothing is worth a damn if it's not something you can't see or touch. I'm against pretty much everything that alters the body - piercings, tattoos, plastic surgery and things such as circumcision.

Out of interest, where do you stand on the cutting of hair, or shaving? Surely, if you are to oppose all body modification as an absolute principal, then you must treat it as an absolute?
Am I to infer from this that you do not refrain from cutting your hair or shaving your beard? In that case, I submit to you that you are a hypocrite, for the reasons detailed previously.Im not a Sikh, thank you and I actually had Sikhs as neighbours for a couple of years. No thank you.
Glib pontification does not constitute a response to my comment. And insulting? Maybe, but people my age and younger are searching. Searching for their place in the world, for who they really are and these things really seem to help to find that. Seem, as it's a lie. Nothing lasts forever, no like or dislike.

And that's an entirely reasonable position to hold, and certainly has some truth to it; what I object to isn't even the condemnation of tattooing, but the unpleasant, non-contextual slurs made by people like Fugazi. To observe that many tattoos seem thoughtless is reasonable, to suggest that all tattoos are a contrived affection is not.I don't loath all tattoos. However, I think a lot of tattoos are done with little to no thought or imagination. Not to mention little to no taste. And unlike other things that are based on taste, you're stuck with it once you do it. And since people's tastes change over the course of their lives, it's something that a lot of people are going to regret eventually.
Well, surely you can see my point; to absolutely condemn all body modification while daily engaging in it is hardly consistent behaviour. That your chosen form is of lesser impact and more socially acceptable is, at least if I am to take your previous comments at face value, neither here nor there. If you want to call me a hypocrite because I shave and trim my beard and get a haircut every one and a half months while condemning body modification, be my guest![]()
Well, perhaps I am being pedantic, but the point stands; you declared that you are "against pretty much everything that alters the body", which, if we are to take that at face value, would imply that you oppose all body modification, however minor; certainly, the temporary nature of hair-cutting does not set it apart, given that piercings are also a temporary modification unless engineered otherwise. If you think that cutting something that grows back is comparable to targetting one's flesh with whatever it maybe, you're being outright silly. So quit it![]()

I'm 20, and I think tattoos in general are usually lame. Occasionally I see a cool one (As a child, I lived in awe of a man who had Wolverine tattooed on his arm!) but at least nine times out of ten, I'm of the opinion that the person would look better without the tattoo. If that makes me a member of the "reactionary middle class" then that's alright by me. (Although I think I just prefer more natural looks, as I'm not a fan of makeup or piercings either) They don't offend me, or my sense of morality, I just don't think they look very good.Out of interest, how old are all these tattoo-loathing people?
