Fun fact:

According to my fancy-shmancy spreadsheet, if Puerto Rico were to become a state tomorrow and the House apportionment redone immediately with 2012 population numbers, Puerto Rico would be allocated 5 districts and have 7 EVs in the next presidential election. The states losing districts to make up for it? California, Florida, Minnesota, South Carolina, and Washington.

That would be funny to say the least, I wonder how that would change congress.

I'm looking for a song. It's a rock song, named after a girl (but not a love song). The video is creepy as hell and involves a little girl running somewhere with a teddy bear. I think (I saw it years ago).

Can anyone identify it?

Not sure, but there's a song I'm wanting to find to.

"If/when (I forget which) you look me in the eyes" is a part of the chorus. My search engine keeps popping up a Jonas brothers song, but this song is NOT by the Jonas brothers. This song was getting lots of airplay in 2004, before the Jonas Brothers were even a group. Also, the singer was definitely female.

edit: After much blood sweat and tears, the song is 'are you happy now' by michelle branch. God that took forever to find.

Bah who cares: this is much better

Lol they don't even have a wikipedia page

Ah, I thought there name was 'la sera'. The point was though, any group so small that they don't even have a wikipedia page probably sucks.

Yeah, you're right. Velvet Underground were probably [feces] too.

Actually they do have a wikipedia page, despite only playing gigs in the underground!

Spoiler :
sorry I'm tired

I'm thinking about putting together a chamber thread to show off some of the calculations. Whether or not election results change if you were to add 50, 100, or 200 seats to the House, that kind of thing. Puerto Rico would retain its local political parties but they would caucus with the Dems or Reps in the short term. I wouldn't be surprised if all 5 go with the Dems, though, given the state of affairs between Republicans and Spanish-speakers in the US.

what exactly is a "Bronx Cheer"?

From context I understand it being some kind of jeering or booing, but is there anything specific/unique to it?

I don't know your song. But I know the feeling of half-remembering one. This year I fruitlessly searched for months, for two. Only for them to pop up quite unexpectedly a little while after I'd given up.

Ahh so that's what it was for!!

You put your tongue between your lips and blow to make a farting sound. The name "Bronx cheer" came about ostensibly because fans of the New York Yankees - who play in the South Bronx - became famous for making that noise to signal their disapproval during games.

This isn't to say that the idea is unique to New Yorkers or Americans. Making fart noises is a reasonably universal thing. A lot of people both inside and outside the US refer to the sound as "making a raspberry" instead.

Do Australians joke among themselves about falling off the earth, blood packing in their heads, easier take offs for space rockets etc.? I suspect they do it sometimes to please foreigners, but how about when there are only Australians around?

Ha, interesting! My guess is that this would probably result in only a net gain of 2-3 Dem reps though. I'd guess PR goes 5-0 or 4-1 Democrat, but the Florida, Minnesota and maybe the Washington seats that vanish may be Dem leaning.
