Than you got a bowl of bacon, chicken, ham, dressing and crotons. It ceases to be a salad.

Noah Webster and Jimmy Wales disagree with you. Garden salads are not the only type of salad.

Salad is a dish consisting of small pieces of raw or cooked food mixed with a sauce and almost always served cold. Salads can be based around a wide variety of foods including vegetables, fruits, and cooked meat, eggs, and grains.
So there we have it. My salad of a smattering of lettuce (and a few other small samples of veggies) with loads of diced chicken, ham, bacon bits, cheese, etc and a good 1/2 cup or more of ranch dressing is very much a salad.

EDIT: Who am I kidding. It's probably more like a full cup of ranch dressing.

Just gotta put the healthy bits on your plate then.

Personally I like one or two types of leaf and tomatoes with a little bit of oil and vinegar dressing - complements the food without overpowering it. I don't understand people who can order a steak then eat it with a salad covered in thick, cheesy sauce.

Let's just settle the question by stating that salad is what food eats.

But Sir B, it's occasionally tasty to pop a cherry or two.

There's an unfortunate innuendo there, too. Was it deliberate?

Ah, no. Wrong thread.

I'm not up on Scottish slang.

There's a difference between eating fresh fruit and eating salad. To wit, you don't make friends with salad.

Ok, something about booze and maraschino cherries?

Bit awkward this is.

Private messages?? Heh, okay, your call :) Er, unless you mean Facebook, in which case you should know I meant "Farm Boy" by FB.
