Do other nations advertise on TV to recruit for their armed forces?

Germany and the Netherlands do.
The focus seems to be different though. In the Dutch commercials it's more about the helping/defending aspect, in the German commercials it's more about career.
The Dutch seem to advertise more than the Germans.
Actually, I would give Battlefield Earth that honor. Thing with troopers is that the movie is glorious anyway. Battlefield Earth (the movie) sucked, except for a few choice scenes.
It actually wasn't, originally. The script was originally written under the working title "bug hunt", and it's only when they noticed the similarity in premise that they bought the rights and changed a bunch of names to match the book. That movie would be the worst example of a film butchering the source book that I've ever seen but for the fact that the two have so little in common it is a stretch to consider the book to actually be the source material.
