Yeah, basically the deal is that the gopro picks up sound from in front of it, but not above it. It was strapped to my chest, so it picked up a lot of my heartbeat even, but at times you can barely hear anything I'm saying. It also picks up the wind and elements very well, so I can't make it too loud (I feel) for that reason. I didn't set out there with the goal to record myself speaking either, otherwise I think I would have set up everything differently. I just mainly wanted to have footage I could watch and re-live the .. hiking exploits of my chest.

Close enough, it puts me right back in the middle of the hike, the visuals and the sounds are often enough to make it all worth it.
But yeah then I realized the videos can be used for more than that, so now let's figure out what that something can be..
That's why I started figuring out how to add subtitles so that you can at least read what I'm saying. I'm not a great narrator like I said, so I don't plan on having a crazy amount of that in there, but there are some memorable parts that deserve to be included.
Did the subtitles zoom by too fast? My initial idea was to just line them up with how long it takes me to say the words if I'm just swearing or complaining about my shoelaces or whatever.. and then if there's anything more concrete or important, I leave the words up a bit longer. I couldn't find anything remotely like subtitle standards, how long they should be displayed, what font, etc. so first I looked up just general "what font and colour scheme to use for text for videos so that you can read it well" and that helped, but I am not sure about the timing of the words and how long they should stay up there.
