The Walking Dead: AMC-channel series Anyone psyched?

Yeah on "The Talking Dead"

Spoiler :
Robert Kirkman joked around that Merle was in the Helicopter.. :p

Spoiler :
I think the helicopter we saw belongs to the governor and rescued Merle off the roof of that building he was hand-cuffed to in Atlanta.

Spoiler :
Didn't they follow the trail of blood out a window?

Just started watching this show on Saturday, and binged the entire weekend, finishing the first two seasons in a fun marathon.

Have to say I love it, don't see where a lot of the criticism is coming from with you people, but whatever.

Also started reading the comics as I'm not going to wait until October to find out what happens next (or at least the general idea, since the show tends to deviate a bit).

You'll have to tell us what you think about the comics when you get a little more caught up to speed. Let us know how you think the comics compare to the TV series.

By and large, the biggest problem with the TV series is pacing. I wouldn't mind the huge departures it takes from the comics if the plot didn't move so SLOWLY.

Yeah I noticed that as well, the comics went by really fast.

And maybe watching the show first spoiled me, but I kinda like the slow show vs. the fast comics. It gives them more time to develop the characters and give it an emotional punch, which it has achieved in me (several, uh, "pivotal" moments in the show have gotten tears out of me, something of a rarity), I haven't gotten the same feeling from the comics.

Although then again I've only read through volume 2, which basically covers everything I've already seen. Once I delve into unknown territory the emotional impact might catch up with me.

One thing I just realized about the comics, is that issues are sometimes (usually?) months apart. A few of us at CFC are spoiled (me included) for having been able to gorge the entire comic series in a matter of days or weeks, when it would normally take MUCH longer to read.

So the fast pace of the comic makes sense when you take the issue release cycle into account.

But. . . it still doesn't forgive the show's slow pace, lol.

Another thing that bugs me, is that in the comics the characters go out of their way to use melee weapons. The comic characters are smart enough to realize that gunshot only attract more unwanted attention.

In the TV show, there is way too many gunshot. WHERE IS RICK'S SIGNATURE HATCHET? :crazyeye:

Well, they use melee weapons (Glenn's knife thing, knives) but last episode, it was a ZOMBIE HORDE. You wouldn't want to use melee weapons against a horde. Andrea was the only one who was in a situation where she needed to use a melee weapon, and she did (hit a zombie in the head with her pistol).

True. I guess I was remembering instances in the comic where the survivors cleared out huge numbers of zombies from places they arrive at*. But I suppose there is a difference between a methodical clearing out of zombies in an area, and a surprise invasion by a horde that's actually following you.

Spoiler :
the prison for example

I love the show but hate all the characters. Not sure how that works. I kinda agree with Holy King on this. To tell you the truth for the first half of the first season I found the characters and their dialogue hilarious. I've kinda gotten used to it though. All the characters are just annoying as all hell though. Especially recently! They all throw hissifits and tantrums and f each other up so much that they inevitably will all die.

Spoiler :

The worst characters of course (based upon pure hackneyedness alone) are Rick, Andrea,
Derrel, and Dave.

The most annoying characters for me though would definitely have to be Carl, Shane, Lorry, Andrea, and Rick. In that order. Carl is just a liability and more trouble than he is worth.Shane was just ridiculous and always was, glad he is dead. Lorry is a whore. Andrea is just full of herself. Rick is just a pansy. I never understood why everyone just let Rick be leader... And maybe its just a bad actor coupled with iffy writing, but does it seem like Rick thinks he is just the big bad-a when in actuality he is just weenie.... haha. The only one I liked was Dave and sadly they killed him off...

So what do you guys think about that person with two walkers chained to them that saved Andrea?

Who's Dave.. :p

I assume he means Dale.

That's how I feel about Mad Men.

Spoiler :
Michonne. Read the comics! She's uh... I hope they make her slightly less RIDICULOUSLY AWESOME in the show than the comics.

Rick is just a pansy.

Well let's see who the pansy has killed? 100+ zombies, Zombie Sophia, Dave and Tony (the guys at the bar) and his best friend. Yes, if that is a pansy, what do you have to do to become a badass?

I don't have any problems with Rick myself. The guy didn't go through the initial zombie outbreak so hasn't experienced the same things as everyone else has so he should in some way maintain is humanity(pansyness) longer than the others.

That said most of the other characters in the show are just annoying. There wouldn't be anything wrong with the pacing of the show if the characters were semi likable or at the very least reasonably consistent. I don't think the actors are to blame for it either since most of the dialog is just all over place.

As much as I liked the final episode of season 2 a number of the characters once again did random stuff out of nowhere. Still I'll keep on watching the show. Better than most Zombie films out there. :)

Haha well its not that he isn't able to kill whoever he wants, its just the way the actor is. Idk he reminds me of Greg from Yes Dear.

There many interesting differences in the comics

Spoiler :

Shane dies a lot sooner. Rick has to go back and dig him before putting him down.
There are wintery conditions on the road from Atlanta. It's always spring or summer on the show.
Dale and Andrea have an intimate relationship - they are a couple
They leave the farm quicker, right after the barn scene, and people get killed in that scene instead of just the roamers.
Michonne saves Otis instead of Andrea
