Various ambassadors to the Communist International have announced plans to launch coordinated attempts at a global and connected Five Year Plan. In Argentina, efforts have begun to increase mining revenues and production as well as to overall enlarge the nation’s economy. The Soviet Union has announced plans to increase the nation’s heavy industry and development in the hopes of opening new jobs and production. Turkey and Portugal have stated their plans to begin construction of larger merchant marine fleets and the development of further international communist trade and development. Similar plans have been launched but on a more militaristic line in Chile and Bolivia, where military buildup has been begun, possibly in response to the violence of the UFS civil war.

WAR IN THE UNION OF FEDERATED STATES. Violence continues across the Americas as the Confederation of Latin States wages its war for independence from the Union of Federated States. Millions of soldiers from each side have been brought up to battle, waging war against their opposite numbers. On Haiti, Cuba, and in Mexico, the Confederation and the Union clash in major open battle. Some fear that the conflict may escalated into a fourth world war, particularly as foreign nations begin declaring their open support, militarily and economically, for the Confederation. At sea, the Union has begun enforcing a mandatory inspection of transports in the Western Atlantic, which has angered several neutral nations. The end of this year seems however that the Confederation has won several victories against the forces of the Union.

New York City, Union of Federated States. The Confederation and the Union have found themselves in desperate need of larger standing forces and an arms race has begun. Militarization of the economy has begun, though open trade still continues across the borders and the Caribbean with limited inspection. Both governments have issued declarations of conscription in order to bring more soldiers to man the various armed forces. The Confederation has begun massive construction efforts to build up a navy from scratch in order to find a way to compete with the Union at sea. With the rise in conscription, riots have broken out in New York City, Boston, and Atlanta, as people protest against being forced to fight the Confederation. On the opposite side of the war, people in Caracas and Quito have rioted against the Confederate conscription programs causing an estimated $4.5 million in property damages.

Bogotá, Confederation of Latin States. Over the past year almost a half dozen nations have officially recognized the Confederation as a country free of the Union. The Communist International has offered large aid packets and reports claim that over $50 billion of aid has arrived for the Confederation’s cause. Furthermore, reports state that Argentine and Chilean volunteers and military forces currently are serving alongside the Confederation on the Mexican front. Other volunteers have come from as far away as Turkey to answer the call of the Comintern. Domestically in the Confederation, this has alienated formerly moderate supporters of the government who fear the possibility of communist takeover within the nation.

Tenochtitlan Historic Community, Confederation of Latin States. Confederate troops have begun a major push north throughout the former nation of Mexico. In the rural regions the Mexican Liberation Front has rallied the people to the support of the Confederate advance. Vital roads and supply lines have been destroyed by the Mexicans, causing chaotic disorganization among the Union ranks. The Confederate push has routed the Union, and they have made great strides across the country, being greeted as liberators by the formerly hidden Mexican population. The Union air force, forced to withdraw into Texas with the loss of the forward airfields, has been mostly absent as the advanced continued. By November, some believed that the Confederate army may even cross the Rio Grande. Thanks to a spirited effort by the Union military and the revival of the air force, the advance of the Confederation has been slowed to a crawl as they advance only under the cover of darkness as the Union planes rule the skies.

Havana, Union of Federated States. Cuba has been the scene of the heaviest fighting in the world’s history since the end of the Third World War. Millions of soldiers have been involved what is turning into the most brutal campaign of the war. Both sides have furiously attempted to outmatch each other and have rushed in large numbers of soldiers. Though early efforts to avoid collateral damage were successful, the sheer numbers of soldiers have made current attempts to preserve homes and infrastructure futile, as the armies are forced into urban conflict in the cities and suburbs. An Union amphibious landing on the eastern part of the island and in Haiti forced the Confederation to move about its supply lines and military forces to wage a two front conflict. Sheer Confederate numbers, particularly in armor, have brought about any attempted Union advances to a standstill, and advances have been made towards the essential city of Havana. The Pope has asked the Union and Confederation to declare Havana an open city in order to prevent its destruction or devastation, hopefully to forestall a prolonged urban battle. The Pope has also issued a public declaration for Catholic support of the CLS, calling for all good Catholics to assist in the creation of a rightful and independent Latin state. In the skies, the battle remains disputed as neither side has gained a decisive advantage in numbers or ability.

Port-au-Prince, Union of Federated States. Union military forces have managed to seize much of the island of Haiti in a three month campaign, brushing aside relatively minor Confederation forces. With absolute dominance over the skies over the island, Union vessels have found it as a safe haven from Confederate attack. Some limited warfare continues in the mountains and jungles of Haiti, as it was the least developed state prior to the war. Union forces still have yet to secure a few remaining strongholds of the Confederate forces after the initial rapid campaign.

Miami, Union of Federated States. At sea, the war has taken a dramatic turn, with the repositioning of the Union navy from ports in Britain and New England, a major surface battle was fought between the two navies. Realizing that the supplies of the Confederation forces in Cuba had to come from narrow shipping lanes to the south, particularly after the invasion of Haiti, the Union navy was brought south in an attempt to smash a large Confederation convoy and their surface fleet. Both sides lacked the element of surprise, using satellite coverage to see the enemy’s every move. In battle involving seven super-carriers, and almost a thousand aircraft, the two fleets fought in the largest naval battle in history. The turning point came fifteen minutes into the battle when a series of missiles were launched from Confederate land bases. These missiles, of a new, untested design successfully flew well below radar until they smashed against the hulls of the Union fleet nearly undetected until the explosions. With the sinking of the Union carrier flagship, the Douglas MacArthur, the Union fleet began withdrawing, thankfully free of further cruise missile attacks. Fearful of further devastating attacks, the main Union surface fleet has fled to the safety of Miami. Elsewhere at sea, smaller engagements have been fought between lighter destroyers and escort ships as a limited commerce war begins in the West Atlantic.

With the declaration of martial law, the South African government still held elections this year, though they were confined to the mostly white confines of the former Boer Republic. @crezth: I think i see what you’re trying to go at with your research project, but I will need some more real specifics on what you’re trying to accomplish.

@HyICE researchers, all funds for this go to Oslo-Bergen, who is the actual researcher. It’ll be up to him to share the tech.

@germanicus, the idea you had for research is more of an issue of reform based on existing technology and therefore is just a program which costs $0M. Your research points have been banked.

Great Update

@HyICE researchers, all funds for this go to Oslo-Bergen, who is the actual researcher. It’ll be up to him to share the tech.

I Hoped that the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Technology Initiative would serve for that purpose, it would seem to me like a much more effective structure.

And please tell me that that's not the reason that HyICE was not fully researched.
