I think you're a man if you're born a man. A transexual I would consider to be like a 3rd sex.
How are we defining "sex", then? Socially, in which case it is properly termed "gender" (and is essentially performative), or biologically? "Man", you see, is usually taken to refer to gender, while sex is denoted by "male" (although the imperfect nature of the English language often mean that the former is used as an adjective form of "man").

Que?

What's the picture?

I think it is VRWC's bionic penis.

Hydramatic? Does it get tetchy if it doesn't have water?

I don't know, I didn't mean to get into a big debate over this. I'm just giving my opinion. If you're talking biologically I think there are still signs that someone was not born that gender though they may be hard to tell.

Well don't question transvestite manliness because Eddie Izzard ran loads of marathons last year for Sport Relief.

Well, what I'm basically trying to say is that "male" and "man" (as well as "female" and "woman") are different concepts, even if they are traditionally considered linked. I'm probably getting a bit carried away, I just wanted to avoid any transphobia or trans-erasure seeping into the discussion.

The, um, the discussion about which god could beat up which... Yeah, I'm probably over-thinking this, aren't I?

And Thor wore a wedding dress, so we're all on the same page. ;)

So assuming you're a hetero male (maybe I'm wrong) would you be OK with marrying a woman who you knew used to be a man?

I'm not, cross-dressing is just that, he's still a man under the clothes.
A man in every sense. Transvestism, as I said, does not imply transgenderism.

(Which, technically, Thor's example may be- he was attempting to pass as a woman, after all...)

So assuming you're a hetero male (maybe I'm wrong) would you be OK with marrying a woman who you knew used to be a man?
Intellectually, yes, although if I'm entirely honest I can't claim to have fully extracted the internalised transphobia that our culture so lovingly provides us with. I'd certainly like to think that I'd be fine with it, and would strive to be so open-minded.

Real men don't impersonate women

Why not? The manliest man in the world will do whatever the hell he wants, not because he want's to be unique, not because he wants to conform, but just because he wants to do something. A real man imo wouldn't give a flying foot about the opinions of others, so what would keep him from dressing up as a woman to steal something? Absolutely nothing.

In case no-one got what I was on about mentioning Eddie Izzard, here's wiki:

In 2009 he completed 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief in spite of having no prior history of long distance running.[5]

So I jump straight to page 9 to check how the deity competition got so long and find its is about... dome kind of penis size (existence?) argument? I guess it should be expected

Ah, but there's a difference between performing androgynous and performing male while doing something femme. "Real men" are men regardless of what they're doing or how they're dressed, because the identity is a self-defined performance, not a prescribed one, and "this is me because I say so" is infinitely more real than "I'll do what everyone else is doing". :p

[Edit: "Hi" bubble? What?]

lmao I read me some Judith Butler and all them cats too.

How in the name of the Norse Gods did we get from a Jesus v. Thor cagematch* into discussion about bionic parts and transvestitism?

CFC-OT #1. Surest way to derail any thread.

*It sounds like something the wrestling cagefights would do.
