Thread closing is NOT the answer

I'm starting to get Medieval on a LOT of people, the monkey shines are ova.

Dig it.

Not my worry or my problem.

CFC is not a Democracy. I don't always act like it, but I do acknowledge it.

We are not required to respect the mods, we are not required to agree with their behavior. We are, however, required to respect and follow the forum rules, or there will be consequences.

I have faith in TF to decide who should moderate, thus interperet and enforce the forum rules.

I will be taking my opinions out of Site Feedback for a while, now.

Works both ways, I start out respecting you, you lose it through actions.

I'm not here to win a popularity contest, you can't do this job that way.

You want my respect, behave.
THAT's the only way you win it back, all of this, I think little of.

People who keep trying to undermine the moderation are just on the fast tract to perma-banning.

The Sween crew doesn't get it, and they are now finding out, the end is here for that nonsense.

Some threads are best closed.

I have seen many.

When newbies or manaics are flaming threads and being uncouth, I am glad a mod is at hand to restore some order.

You guys don't know how much I dislike closing threads. I consider closed threads an eyesore and try to avoid closing threads as much as possible and also tell mods not to close threads unless it's really necessary.

I see...that explains why.

(I wanted a thread closed in this forum)

Since when have you ever shown any respect for authority Ohwell?

:D

I don't respect people because they are authority figures, I respect them because of what they say and their actions.

And some authority figures here deserve no respect. The proper word would be fear.

ah, hrm... I really would like to know if I was on something on.... Friday evening CET IIRC or if two pages (+/-) of the now closed thread 'A serious question' were deleted..... i remember posting to it, then correcting that post with an edit as I had missed an important post by TF......

why were these posts deleted? Especially my (dumb) post would have been a good example of 'why you should read twice before shouting out'.....

or was I deluded and there were no deletions?

Have I lost any respect? Did I have any to begin with? Respect being an abstract topic, I really can't notice it. I personally feel that respect should be earned or lost, not a given. This is actually the way in which we judge others in real life; why not do so here?

Moderator Action: There is no such thing as banning of moderators.

Ahh...on topic now...

The internet is definately not the same as real life. Being a mod you generally have TF over your shoulder, and if you don't show respect for posters, it doesn't bode well for you. As such, long timers such as AoA have modified their online values system. I have known AoA for quite some time and have chatted with him a lot. There are posters he considers friends, there are also posters he does not consider friends. I will tell you that no matter what, I've never heard him complain about a single poster who HASNT caused problems.

You can earn and lose respect, but by showing yourself even once as a decent human being the mods can generally get a good sense of how deserving you are of respect and if don't cause problems that respect remains.

As soon as you start causing problems, you lose a lot of respect, for MANY connected reasons, including the fact that no mods enjoy babysitting, and don't respect those who require constant babysitting.

Believe it or not, you don't have to be a mod to understand what gonzo said here. As a mod, I have gained a lot more insight into this, but the fact that I understood it already probably helped TF decide to make me a mod.

I try to treat everyone here with the respect they deserve. If you hold up your end, and post respectfully, I will bend over backwards to help you if need be. On the other hand, if you constantly cause problems, and I feel like I am having to follow you around with a pail and shovel to clean up your messes, yeah, I won't respect you, and I will ban you at the first sign of serious trouble.

Quiet, you yankeedoodledog! :p

Good point.
And I think, D' Artagnan, you'll find this is the attitude of all the mods here. :goodjob:
