Thread to Report Issues with new xenForo version 2.2

As I have already posted, we have problems with the subscriptions.
1) all threads appear to have been marked as unread.
2) the subscriptions page is supposed to only show unread threads. Instead, all threads are shown so actually keeping up with one's subscriptions is harder. This was not the case with the earlier iteration of Xenforo, nor was it with vBulletin.
So...2) is not anymore true, this will show you now any subscribed threads, no matter if read or not. Yeah.... I'd call that a bug, they call it a feature. Can't help it. I think 1) probably relates to this and/or the move, and might resolve itself. Please check if this is really true for all.

When you have a working version of Dark Cfc (or was it called Black Cfc?) skin, please make an announcement somewhere so that we can be aware :)

If you look, there is one there now.

Yes, please have a look. I'm not sure if I'm happy about the colours, please give some feedback.

There doesn't appear to be a way to collapse the sidebar (in part or in whole) like on the previous forum.

Yes, collapsible "anything" is not a default feature, so we simply don't have that :/.

Hm, what I don't like is that apparently mods have stealth vision and it doesn't matter if you select to not publish if you are online, they still see

That's pretty cheeky :p

That is not a bug this time, but a feature.

The pressing need was to get away from an outdated, insecure version of our software!

However as we are now on the Cloud version you can expect regular changes in line with the modern "continuous improvement" philosophy. If you take issue with that philosophy then I have considerable sympathy with you but we lost that battle at least 10 years ago .....

Not to forget that we now have a proper backup, external tech support, DDoS protection and more :).

There is absolutely nothing worse than an application of any type, be it a program or a web forum whose interface and functionality constantly changes. All it ever does is lead to an uncomfortable chaotic mess with which nobody is comfortable. And I would hate to have this place turn out that way. It would be a very sad death to this forum and my decade and a half enjoyment of it if you went down that path.

All new changes should now be more gradual :).

Does not really matter. If I can't rely on this forum being mostly constant and not introducing new changes every week or month for no good reason I'll burn out quickly. This place has been pretty much the same since 2008 when I joined. And as far as I am concerned that's the way to do it.

Internet forums are just like any society. The moment you start changing things under the guise of improvement is the moment things start going downhill.

You mean besides the change from vbulletin to Xenfor in 2016 ;)?

Xenforo v2.0 was released in September 2017, v2.1 in Nobember 2018, and v2.2. (on which we're currently on) in August 2020 (minor release 2.2.9 in April this year), and most of the latter updates have mostly brought more (optional) features and bug fixes. So I don't think that overload will become a problem :).

He did say a working version. I've already posted about missing boundary lines and how the alerts dropdown box doesn't differentiate between read and unread alerts.
Also, the clash between stark white and black isn't that much better than white-on-black. Softer colours would be better.

1) I'm not sure.
But about 2) that's basically nullifying the usefulness of the subscriptions page!

Do you moderators take it in turns to be passive-aggressive or is it just you?

I don't think you even grasp how offensively tone-deaf it is to say ‘you have a problem, I don't’.
 I worded my post specifically with your sense of humor in mind, so I guess you can focus your anger at me.

Yes, sadly, it is rather not very nice-looking. To the point where I can't use it as it is :o
Isn't there some library of skins (generic) for this type of forum? If so, surely someone would have made a better dark skin which you can just install (don't know how forum skins are obtained, just guessing)

They looked pretty much the same, felt pretty much the same etc. Remember, as an end user I don't care what fuel the vehicle is running on or what the brand is. All I want is for the wheel and pedals to be in the same place and work the same.

I am sorry, the internet isn't static, websites will change.

Sadly the vast majority seems to be paid https://xenforo.com/community/forums/style-releases-2-x.96/ .
I can have a look though to see if some can give me an idea what would work better.

Are you guys happy enough to just use a dark theme, or are you specifically (and understandably) wanting to then play around with it to make it fit the site? I have no idea what percentage of us need a dark theme because of eyesight or other issues. Speaking for myself, I'm happy with you putting minimal effort into it, especially if there's only a dozen of us who need it.

I run this free dark theme on my XF install. I have no idea if it would meet everyone's needs on this site.

:hatsoff: thank you very much.
I think any dark theme will do, just need to make some adjustments for the header etc., so I'll have a look at this next week, thanks :).
You're welcome. :)

One minor issue with the XF1 dark theme that I've also noticed here, is that a lot of moderators tend to put their "moderator action" edits in blue. It looks fine on a light theme, but it's really hard to read on a dark background. I'm not sure if there's actually a solution to that, unless you want to use BBCode for notices (there's an app a mod for that :P).

Failing that, maybe a moderator or two might see this and consider using a colour that works on both themes? If not, it's not the end of the world as we can always highlight the text to make it readable. I also realise that most admins don't want to be piling mods and other changes atop each other until they have the leaning tower of modifications. :)

There are specific Mod tags we use depending on how annoyed we are lol, each Mod tag has an asociated colour so it should just be one CSS change to fix this I would hope.

Tbh, the quality of the skins (and not just the new dark compared to the old one) has fallen very visibly...
Maybe the entire forum structure makes that inevitable. I hope it was worth it :P

And users leave and communities die. Let us hope that in this case the three don't have to follow. Because I for one would hate that to happen.

I don't know how much this has already been discussed, but when I click on threads it keeps taking me to OP, rather than the last unread comment which is very annoying as it is laborious to then navigate to where I should be
