TIL That hybrid washing-machine dishwashers were actually a thing....

That's so Fallout.

You've been married since before there were dishwashers, so you don't count.
I'll have you know that I got married the month the Bears last one the Super Bowl. Which is the only way I can remember it.

and for the record

Woman Invented Dishwasher. Josephine Garis Cochran invented the first useful dishwasher in Shelbyville, Ill., and received patent # 355,139 on December 28, 1886

I always see references to this. Why is it that, well, memetic even before the word meme was made up?

Chicago and New York are some of the biggest media markets, so they naturally command outsize attention in sportball. And when the teams there (Bears, Jets) are historically unsuccessful, the fanbases for those cities put extra effort into the memories of the few title-winning teams that they have.

Namath's Jets were not particularly good, had no greater number of memorable plays in their title game than many other teams, and only won one title, but because they only won one title, that title took on mythical relevance, especially for the New York sports media. The Bears were a bit more memorable because of their outstanding defense, which remains one of the finest defenses ever fielded by any NFL team, but still: most of the memory comes from a) the title only happened once and b) it happened to a Chicago team.

Ah. So even if it's not really football its fans treat it as if it were proper football. I see now.

That, plus the fact that Namath bragged his vastly underdog Jets would win. And that victory gave the AFL the credibility needed so it could merge into the NFL. Legendary win! :trophy:

[Vaguebooking]
Got a diagnosis today that explains so much about my life.
Spent the past 12 hours considering if I should make it public.
Settled for telling my parents and my two closest friends about it.
Just decided to write something vague in an internet forum where nobody knows me personally...

Might warrant a "ask a " thread.
Probably necessary because it's a very common genetic disorder that many people aren't even aware of...

Being a man isn't a disorder.

Yes, most of the sports media and gambling establishment were very bad at being objective about the AFL.

Let's be realistic, though - Namath guaranteeing a win would not have turned into anything if it hadn't happened as part of the New York Jets' only Super Bowl win. But, due to the New York media's laughable overreaction to everything that happens there, it immediately entered into Football Lore.

Haha ! One point to Synsensa

I just decided to make it a game.
The first person to guess will get a bottle of Sljivovic.
Shouldn't it be spelled with a š? ;)

Anyway, I'll plump for ASD as my first answer.

No/Yes,
If I start bringing different alphabets/transliterations into it we'll be here all day/night...

Anyway, I'll plump for ASD as my first answer.

Maybe that too, but not the answer I'm looking for...

They were apparently an option for customers who bought Lustron Houses.

My daughter recently bought a house in St. Louis and her neighborhood has about 10 of these houses. I noticed how odd they were when I visited last spring, but didn't know anything more about them. Thanks for posting that link. Her house was built in the 1920s, so I guess the Lustron homes came later as the neighborhood grew. Youhave also given me an excuse to knock on the door of one or two to chat with the owners about their house. :)

My second guess is that you're adopted, GoodSarmatian.

Your dad is not your mom's husband.

You're actually Jewish and you have been circumcised?
