Pinched from wiki:-

It has been estimated that between a third and a half of the published material on the MBTI has been produced for the special conferences of the Center for the Application of Psychological Type (which provide the training in the MBTI, and are funded by sales of the MBTI) or as papers in the Journal of Psychological Type (which is edited and supported by Myers–Briggs advocates and by sales of the indicator).

Absolutely no bias there whatsoever! :shifty:

That does stand to reason. After all, most material on any non-scientific subject will be produced by its adherents.

Do you think it helped your group at all?

It's hard to tell if it helped my group because I ended up filling the informal leader role and made sure everything got done. This could be seen as a success for MBTI b/c I was tagged as a natural leader in the test - but I don't if someone would have stepped up had I not been in the group. I assume someone would have, but I can't be sure because 2 of my 3 group mates caught the COD flu* and disappeared for most of the semester.

*call of duty

Probably not. I doubt we had more diversity in “thinking styles” or personalities than if we had been just randomly assigned. And even if we did, I doubt it would have really mattered for that project.

Already knew about this for years but thought I should share :)

In 2012, a cat attempted to run for mayor of Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Unfortunately, he didn't even make the ballot because the candidates required to have birth certificate. And he died of kidney cancer the following year. :(

I'm sure there's some truth in what you're saying, but I'm having a hard time believing the cat itself was attempting to run for mayor.

Well I never even met a cat who understood that pointing at something doesn't mean "smell my fingertip", so I can't really imagine one that has ambitions to make waves in the human political sphere, even on such a lowly level as town mayor. I can only imagine there was some sinister puppet master behind the whole thing. I'm sure Stubbsy did a great job though.

Meow.

Just because cats don't give a damn about whatever you might be pointing at doesn't mean they lack ambition.

TIL Randall Munroe's ‘What if?’ is now featured in the New York Times (and behind their paywall, of course).

Today I learned about Muphry's Law (rather amusingly, by making a typo in the Wikipedia search).

Muphry's law is an adage that states: "If you write anything criticizing editing or proofreading, there will be a fault of some kind in what you have written."[1] The name is a deliberate misspelling of "Murphy's law".[/qupte]

A cat doing nothing except licking it's butt and sniffing fingers is actually a better option than quite a few polititians.

Cats not gonna start a war, demolish laws, cut spending etc.

Today I learned about the Dory Rips

The Dory Rips is a phenomenon involving extreme tidal agitation of waters located in the Bay of Fundy off the headland of Cape d'Or in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The phenomenon occurs at the entrance to the Minas Basin, which is known for the globe's highest tides.[1][2]

The turbulence does not result from a simple rip tide, but rather from the collision of three opposed tidal currents whose violence is enhanced by the presence of a subsurface reef that forces the water upward. The powerful incoming tidal current loops back and collides with itself while another current, coursing in semicircular fashion around Advocate Bay, slams into the collision point at a 90-degree angle.

What? No. It's criticized because it's not based on factor analysis and because the Barnum effect. Actual psychologists generally use Five Factor.
Bingo.
