I'm sorry I was not aware of that. My recollection was that we all loved those photos and it was a bit of a running gag. I was just imagining that it would be funny if every one of those expressions was a result of you seeing a map and getting pissed at yet another grey Western Sahara. I didn't mean any harm.

I can confirm that New Zealand is incredibly safe.. not only in terms of people, but also in terms of the animals on the islands.. they just can't kill you! There is the question of volcanoes however..

I thought those old pics of you were great! I very much enjoyed trying to spot the differences. And they featured a rather interesting, if baffling, curtain, iirc.

I was thinking about this while reading the thread title. As far as I remember new Zealand lies on the edges of tectonic plates, so volcanoes, and I think earthquakes as well, are problems. With regard to natural hazards, Denmark is the safest country, if I remember correctly.

Yep.. The volcano I hiked on the side of erupted last November for example. And an unrelated earthquake destroyed parts of Christchurch after my visit as well.
Not to say that it's catastrophical down there, but NZ is on the ring of fire.

Oh, no, Greece is not as dangerous as Albania.

(That said, this is a very new development - prior to 2012, Greece was constantly far ahead of Albania. It's probably the debt crisis, protests, rise in popularity of far-right parties, etc that are torpedoing Greece's rating)

As I said, it's a very new change. BEFORE 2011, Greece was always ahead of Albania - but Greece's safety rating has been freefalling the last few years.

Given what they use to measure this index, large-scale violent protests (you've been havinng those I hear), and political instability are huge issues that can and will drag down your numbers. So that's probably what's killing Greece.
I can't say for a fact but I strongly suspect that the level of discrimination in a society probably also contributes. For example, blaming the Albanians for everything that's wrong.

The level of discussion I'm used to is one where comments like "(Insert culture) Foreigners are responsible for the criminality here" get (rightly) frowned upon as a fundamentally xenophobic sort of statement.
As for the rest of my post: that IS the situation with Greece. Its safety rating IS in freefall. That seems to correspond with certain developments in the country (political (in)stability, massive demonstrations) that are objectively known to contribute to the safety rating). I don't know what level of discussion you have a problem with in there.
