TOS Version 3 test PBEM

Oh, BTW Eric, Betty Bombers aren't flagged as military, so I don't get my wartime mobilization bonus when building them. You may want to fix that.

Actually, any unit with an Attack rating of 0 will not get the bonus, just like the Heavy Bomber, or artillery and/or bombers in the normal game. Same with any unit with the transport flag.

Lost a bomber over Pnom Penh. Bombed some roads in SE Asia.

Eric_A : are you sure ? I think barracks can still be built during Mobilization "on".

Buildings with the military flag (Barracks, walls, Harbor, etc) can be built during Mobilization, they just don't get the shield "bonus" to production. Workers can also be built, but again without the bonus.

I also believe that factories and the like cannot be built during mobilisation if the ODT PBEM is anything to go by ... a little unrealistic seeing as how if your factory gets bombed, production will suffer while you rebuild but things like factories shouldn't be unbuildable just because of mobilisation.

Fair enough ... just making the point that i don't think it was realistic, not to mention that a couple of 'lucky' hits on your production centres and that effectively is you out of the game.

I also was wondering about range of aircraft ... the recce range of the fighters versus the recce range of torpedo/bombers seems a little out of proportion - in view of the fact there are no recce planes such as the Catalina, a key role of the fighter would be recce but the range is so pathetic for this that you end up using your bombers and your fighters end up as little more than air superiority.

On the subject of aircraft, I'd like to see a little more differentiation between the torpedo bombers and dive bombers. I was thinking maybe increase the bombardment ROF for Torpedo planes (making them more likely to get in a lethal hit) but make them -1hp, to reflect that they were very vulnerable to enemy Combat Air Patrol and AAA, because they had to fly basically straight at the target, at low altitude. Not sure if that's the best way to go about it, but right now they are too similar. What do you think?

Also, regarding the buildings, be careful, because if you flag them military (allowing them to be built in Mobilization), the MIL-trait civs will get them for half-price, it works off the same flag. The only way around that (that I know of) would be to create a new Factory improvement, based to either a tech or resource that only the MIL-trait civs have, that has the same effects and costs double, so that when it gets the 50% discount, the cost is the same. But that could be more trouble than it's worth. I'd recommend leaving it, and accept that if your core cities are getting bombed, you will lose production, if you chose to mobilize. That's part of the risk of mobilizing.

I sent the Week 2 save to you (Misfit) on 11/26 at 1:58PM, that's the last time I've seen it. I will resend, in case you didn't recieve it.

Turn played and sent.

I'm not sure how it disappeared into the ether, but thanks for the resend.

Chinese capital of Chungking has fallen, lost 2 infantry taking it. Eric_A lost his brand spanking new Elite infantry (and guerilla) outside Chengdu while they were celebrating their victory over my army. Down to one airport my friend..... Killed another guerilla south of Peking.

Sank a Dutch sub south of Truk.

I realized that I could not hold the capital, so I moved some of
the units out last turn, too bad about the bomber and arty, but I
neeed to use them to destroy your army. My allies have not been
as generous with the donations as yours were in the last game,
having only received 70 gold from Loulong so far, and then there
was the mix up with the rubber which made it impossible to
draft units for a couple of turns.

BTW, some screen shots would be nice as well.

I'm happy to hear that because if they were I'd have a lot of units to fight off.

I'm not sure my strategy will pay off in the long haul, but I've never played this type of civilization in this type of game. I don't have the tactical experience at naval warfare that I do in land based.

I'll take some screen shots to post.
