So take the strategic genius of Machiavelli (he did military planning too). Also, Napoleon had lots of opposition, he just had enemies that screwed up more times than he did for a long time. That's not to detract from the man's skills, of course, he was the father of modern artillery and the person who made the foundation of WWII blitzkrieg. My original point was that Italy has historically produced more great generals than France, or at least that's the way it's remembered.

Cuz looking at history, the French have only won when: -
a) they're fighting themselves (ie: French revolution)
b) they're led by a foreigner (ie: Napolean)
c) they're led by delusional schizos (ie: Jean d'Arc and Napolean)
d) Americans and Brits do most of the fighting for them (WW1 and WW2)

What happened to mother Russia? We were supposed to have 1700,000 soldiers in the whole of Empire before mobilization...where are millions of troops now? Guarding the Central Asian border..... (general rant not related to anyone)

#1- well, the Germans are suppost to have lots more men too if we are based on historic numbers.

as of now Russia has LOTS of men compared w/ other nations, they are just not concentrated in the border , and russia hasnt mobilized yet! lol

France often won in the 15th-18th century period, actually. Problem is, it also lost often, and lost many conquests as well.

Ofcourse, one could also remember that Charles Martel and Charlemagne could be considered French...
