True Legacy Nes: Alternative Cold War

Fuhrer Heinrich Himmler sat in his office going over the dispatches as the military was realigned and some serious diplomatic issues had come up that needed his attention. There was a buzz at the intercom. He looked up from the papers and spoke into the intercom at his desk, "Yes Annelie?"

"Fuhrer, Oberstgruppenführer Arno Drexel is here as requested."

"Good send him in." The door clicked open to reveal the small face of Annelie surrounded by her long blonde hair as she waved in a tall man in an immaculately kept SS uniform. Heinrich waved down the salute that was forming. The door closed loudly. "No need to be so formal, have a seat." Oberstgruppenführer Arno Drexel sat. "I just wanted a report on the closing of the camps."

Oberstgruppenführer Arno Drexel shifted uncomfortably for a moment and then proceeded to give his report. "Fuhrer over half are closed down as their prisoners have either been executed or moved to the central facility at Auschwitz as directed. Some off the officers were overzealous in their executing you directive." The Fuhrer nodded as this was not unexpected, Drexel continued. "The active searches have been called off, especially in the areas of Denmark and the Low Countries as specified."

"Were there any problems in ending those searches?" Asked the Fuhrer.

"Yes, several lower officers and enlisted had to be ' gently reassigned' to the cold north in Norway." Drexel smiled thinly.

"Good so all is on schedule to end the raids on homes and such unless the evidence is overwhelming? This must happen if we want to stabilize the Third German Reich. We must avoid distraction from the peace after the war. If the Reich is to survive and prosper." The Fuhrer slapped his hand on the table in emphasis. "Now go and continue with the positive progress."

Oberstgruppenführer Arno Drexel stood up saluted and exited the room leaving a quiet which disturbed Fuhrer Heinrich Himmler. He got up and walked over to the radio and turned it on. Wagner was playing and that suited the Fuhrer just fine. He sat back down to look at the responses from the former Axis nations and hopefully continued friends.

@Hitler's legacy: Map is fine, and the province based lines can make it eaiser to specify what your doing in terms of the war. However there are a few countries on the map but not in the stats, I belive Manchuria and Mongolia were mentioned (I haven't checked this myself) and I know the nation in Columbia is also mysteriously missing.

Edit: Should check the stats before actually posting this. Problem fixed. Map is good

Edit2 to conserve space: To the United Kingdom: We were wondering is you were willing to negotiate the sale of your colonies in Guyana. Perhaps something like three EP's a round for four rounds?

From Britain
To Brazil

Unfortunately we cannot sell our colonies to you. We must keep all of our influence that we can

To: The People's Republic of China, FSSR
From: The Empire of Japan

We would be interested in signing a pact of non-aggression to be renewed every five years if the following concessions can be made:

1. All shipping to and from the People's Republic of China and the Federated Soviet Socialist Republics which breach Japanese sea lanes or approach within ten nautical miles of ten nautical miles of Japanese, Siamese, or Manchurian ports shall be subject to search by vessels of the Japanese Imperial Navy for illegal or weapons contraband which demonstrates an intent to smuggle weapons into and arm rebels within the Empire.

2. In the event that any aforementioned contraband is found (the exact specifications of which are open to the interpretation of the captain of the seizing vessel), the Empire of Japan retains the right to confiscate or liberate any or all contraband of such nature, and/or escort the illiberate vessel to the nearest Imperial port to negotiate possible imprisonment and/or execution for crimes committed against the Empire.

3. Japan retains the right to police the territory of the Empire to whatever ends she sees fit and to arrest, try, and execute any foreign nationals of Chinese Communist or Soviet origin who are accused of fomenting lawlessness, rebellion, and general civil disorder in the territory of the Empire.

4. Soviet or Chinese citizens thus imprisoned and/or executed have the right to an appeal which will be upheld on our code of honor whereby a representative from the People's Republic of China or the Federated Soviet Socialist Republics may sojourn to the Empire to act as a character witness or vouch for innocence on behalf of the accused. If an appeal is not carried out in thirty days it will be rendered null and void and all future possibilities of an appeal will be suspended.

In exchange we shall sign a non-aggression pact the exact specifications of which are:

Signed

OOC: Hitlerslegacy I cannot find Manchuria or Mongolia in the stats. In keeping with history, Mongolia should be a Soviet vassal, and Manchuria should be a Japanese vassal.

Molotov enthusiastically signs.

We echo Brazil in their request that you relinquish control of your South American holdings.

But we want to take it another step further, we want your control of Newfoundland, the Islands in the Carribean, and your South American holdings, namely, all colonial possessions in the Americas relinquished.

We are willing to pay to see this done without bloodshed, but we cannot tolerate a fascist government so close to our borders, so if you refuse, I have permission from the President to use the threat of war against you.

Secretary of State George Hunter.

OOC: Yeah way to end the cold war before turn 1 ;)

From Germany
To USA, Brazil

We believe you should rethink this demand upon Britain as they are entering the Berlin Pact and Germany is sure you do not want that war visited upon you.

Ambassador Waldemar Rueden

OOC: Russia threatened war during our Cold War so it happens. One thing said can be entirely different from what needs to be said. (I.E A threat of war is entirely different from a declaration of war.)

Besides, with this threat, who would not back down and accept payment over losing thousands of men in a war they will lose?

OOC: Yes but those threats were almost never direct concessions of land. They were spheres of influence, removal of military forces etc. This would probably work if it was like "Keep very few military and naval presence in you Western territories" (yeah worded terribly, only had 4 hours of sleep in the last 72 hours sorry)

From Vichy France
To the United Kingdom

To rephrase the previous demand [to the NPC], may we enter in a mutually beneficial defensive alliance with you?

To the United States
From Vichy France

Why would the United States be frightened of a former ally, one that even with a new government, has had historically friendly relations with you? Why would the American people support such a move to attack a culture so close to yours?

Be warned that an attack on the United Kingdom's territory will not be viewed lightly in French eyes, even if our defensive alliance offer is refused. We still have numerous ways of harming the United States in a non-military fashion.

At sea, Virginian waters

Admiral Halsey, relocated from Pearl Harbor to assume command of the Atlantic Fleet following the untimely death of Admiral Ingram last month, breathed in a deep breath of sea air. On board his light carrier, USS Enterprise, he watched as his men worked, some painted, some cleaned, but most of them were working on the planes on the deck. Occasionally a pilot would arrive and enter one of the planes and take it for a test flight to make sure it was battle ready should the need arise. Admiral Halsey knew in these uncertain times that a single spark could ignite a war, and he wanted to be ready when that spark went off.

White House, Washington D.C

President Dewey welcomed George Hunter into his office and sat down, as he listened to the commentary between George and the stubborn British, he grew frustrated, the British are welcoming a war that is damn near impossible for them to win, even if Germany helped them. Dewey sighed, he thanked George for the news and let him out, once outside of his room, he glanced over to his secretary and said, "Anne, get Jeff Thurston immediately, I must speak with him." Anne nodded and began to call the War Department.

When Jeff sat down in the Oval Office, President Dewey went to business, "Jeff, please look at this map and give me your answer."
Jeff looked at the map and replied, "Sir, if this is what I think it is, it can be done with minimal problems."
"Excellent, I shall issue the orders to the Western States. Once that is underway, we can move east and hopefully the project will complete by next year."
Jeff smiled, "Yes, sir, with this project complete we will be impregnable. But sir, what about England, and their colonial possessions?"
"Ahh, forget about them, I will take care of it. Even if it means I have to fly to London myself. Just order the navy to stand down. But I want double air patrols, if they attack us, I want advance warning."
Jeff stood up and saluted, "It shall be done sir."

Office of Governor, California.

"Mr. Small, I have a telegram from the White House sir." Governor Small turned his chair around and received the dispatch and read it, after placing it down he turned to his phone and dialed the local Fort. General Gordon answered on the 3rd ring and a brief conversation took place in which Governor Small's smile grew larger, he hung up and turned to his aide, "Now we have started what every state in the United States will do soon, this President Dewey is a smart man." The aide stared in confusion, but realizing that the governor won't comment further on what the plan is, he turned and left.

One by one, all of the 13 states in the West received the same telegram and called their local military bases and put the plan into effect, the following week, the Mid West received the same telegram and again made the calls, this was followed by the East who received the news and eagerly put it into effect, already America is getting stronger, even without spending a single penny of Federal money.

At sea, Virginian waters

Admiral Halsey returned the salute and received the dispatch from the War Department and read it, after reading it, he called for his XO and informed him of the message, in return the XO went to the radio room and spoke with the captains of every ship in the Atlantic Fleet, then sent a message to every sub in the Atlantic. The USS Enterprise began steaming back to Norfolk, the planes given the order to return to the ship. Admiral Halsey believed the order was an idiotic move, but he has to follow the orders of his President. "Time to see the family though." He thought to himself.

Be warned that an attack on the United Kingdom's territory will not be viewed lightly in French eyes, even if our defensive alliance offer is refused. We still have numerous ways of harming the United States in a non-military fashion.

We are not frightened of England, what harm can they do to us, that we can do to them? We are only wary of their ideology, we are a free people, and having something that threatens this way of life is a threat against Democracy and the free world as a whole. Should England be willing to change their government and allow the free people a voice then the United States will allow England to keep their colonial possessions.

Perhaps if England were to grant them freedom to choose their allegiances, and they chose to remain with England. Then we will allow it, but until then, they remain a threat.

Also, this proves why Fascist leaders are not of the most sane kind... I have offered to buy, yes... buy, those lands from them, but they refused, choosing blood over gold. They could have been rich but instead they chose to lose men, which as a result would hurt their economy because those same men could have stayed home and worked in the factories and businesses of England making money, instead of dying for some worthless piece of land over the sea against a powerful enemy who overshadows the Great English people in arms, cash, and ships.

Also, remember, you also have logistics issues, we have just a few hundred miles to steam and reinforce a location, you have thousands of miles of treacherous, submarine ridden, mine laid seas to cross and send reinforcements across.

So I beseech to you to ask my old friend and yours, accept the gold and be rich than send thousands of innocent men across a deadly ocean in which most would probably be torpedoed and sunk, and should the ships actually make it, they face an enemy who can easily resupply and reinforce themselves. Really, is the choice that difficult?

From: Germany
To: USA
CC: any interested nations

You would lose thousands of American lives over a few trifling territories that Britain has retained? Britain has not nor was planning on threatening America in any way. You simply want to take control of land that is and has been home to many British Citizens. If you think Britain sounds insane for not wanting to sell its citizenry to another nation while you are trying to buy citizens of another nation and then threaten same population with death on a massive scale if you do not get your way? So much for land of the free huh? You should take a moment and truly consider what it is you are asking Britain to do. I am also sure your asking price would be way undervalued in any case as you could just bully Britain. Well sadly for you they do not stand alone.

Again we implore the American Government to recind this demand under threat of violence. You asked to purchase it and were turned down. The British did not have a huge military stationed there threaten you, in fact the forces there are quite minimal already. Please move on rather than drag the war weary world back down into that quagmire since it has recovered.

Germany does not want or seek a war, if this starts the USA is the cause of destroying world peace.

Ambassador Waldemar Rueden

If I was given the choice, keep and fight for my worthless territories, or become rich by selling them to another country who apparently will fight for them. I would choose to become rich.

My troops have a better chance of survival than yours. They will be in home waters, or waters of our allies. You are going into enemy waters 90% of the time. It is you and your allies who will suffer the full effect of this war. (One just has to look at a map and see that it is logistically impossible to win for you and your allies.)

To Germany
From the United States of America

How is it that you guys are willing to travel thousands of miles to fight on a worthless piece of land instead of being paid to have it taken off your hands? I have stated repeatedly, that the United States is willing to pay generously for these lands, the British people are free to leave. We will provide free transportation back to England should they wish to leave.

It is you guys that should stand to take a step back and look at the overall situation. You cannot win.
