Turn Discussion

We'll be wasting his precious time so this game finishes in a year and 2 minutes instead of just a year(but yes the limit is more on discussion than on time to take turns anyways, it is not like we are playing pbem)...

I don't understand this moaning right now.
We have 5 teams and each team has 24 hours to play its turn. That means a turn can take up to 5 days without a team's request for an extention...
Right now we usually need less than 2 days for a turn. (sometimes less than a day ... even with lazy MS...)
I think we have a quite fast pace given, that we play a team-game.

It might be right, that we (MS) take most time for our turn right now, but you should also consider, that all the other teams use "our" time to prepare their turns or do diplomacy.
Sometimes this is a bit more tricky for us as we are up again before most of our team could even check the forum sometimes... So, we have to wait for our people to check in during OUR time.

Further it's a little ridicolous, that a member of a team that logs in very often (even himself) even during our turn tries to blame us to try to extend our time :D
To be clear: It's everybody's right to log in any time and I don't want to blame anyone (esp. not his team) for anything. It was just an observation, that didn't really fit in his "argument".

These permanent moaning about our (MS) turn-speed is really starting to get annoying.

Disclaimer: I'm speaking for myself, not for my team.

@Topas great points :)

FYI playing 1 full round in 2 days FAR beats the last game. (we were lucky to get a turn in a week)

Where (guessing) people may get confused is:

1. We see MS turn play log in. (FACT)
2. We see MS score change (i.e. something happened, won't speculate as to what.) (FACT)
3. We see MS log out, not ending their turn. (FACT)
4. MS wait until turn timer almost up, log in end turn doing nothing
(ASSUMPTION)

So there are alot of assumptions being made either which way, none of which need to be discussed as it is all speculation one way or the other.

Why don't you look and see what we/I do? You are right, there are clear parts and some difficult, for the latter there is discussion. There are many changes at the EoT, because we/I need support for best decisions.
At average we take less then 24 hours. If I only look at the last 2 turns both together 46 hours.

Overall the entire game is doing almost a full turn every 24 hours, and depending on what time zone the turn player is in, one team will logically take the most time on every turn. Worst case, a team gets the turn immediately after the turn player's availability window and it takes almost 24 hours to get the turn around. Even worse, if all the turn players availability times come out just wrong, every team takes 24.
Fair enough. But it's relevant to point out that most teams have more than one turn player. Saturn, for instance, has 3 right now - and we could easily recruit a 4th and 5th if they were necessary.

Of course, sometimes you'll want to use your time to discuss things amongst your team, and that's fine. But if the problem is waiting for the turn player to log in, then the solution is to get yourself more turn players! ;)

Just a friendly opinion. :)

I really don't think the problem was the login time of the tun player... As husch already stated it was only the discussion that kept things up..

Right, I was just responding to DaveShack's post, which was going along a different tangent. :)

Right, not wanting to draw attention to discussion length :mischief: I framed my post in terms of another issue.

I've been on teams that only have 1 player active, in which case there is no option for a 2nd turn player. Not an issue right now. :D

That didn't happen this turn, though, did it? Because I was logged in at the turn rollover, and MS's score increased only then, not earlier in their turn. Maybe you were thinking of the previous turn?

In any case, I can think of several reasons to play a turn in bits and pieces, so there's really no point in worrying about it. I think this whole thing is a tempest in a teapot, to be honest. We're only talking a difference of a couple of hours every time the game goes around.

... and for the record, I would personally rather see the game move slower than its current pace than faster. So it's certainly not a decided that speeding up would be preferable. :p

Me too! As head spy menial number-crunching drone Strategic Information Officer for our team, I could use a little more time between teams. Only for peaceful purposes, of course. :D

Is it just me, or has Team SANCTA kept finishing their turns mere minutes after ours? [Team Saturn.]

This seems to happen a lot. If one team is slow, the others get to use that time to have their next move already all planned out, and it just relies on when the turn player is ready. ;)

Team Sancta has potential plans for the next 30+ turns out. this includes multiple branches on tree pending what other events bring out.

Hence whenever our turn comes up, if i am awake i play it fast.

Tempest in a teapot indeed.

And I'm with Niklas on this point: The game already seems to be moving too fast at times. Not every turn, certainly. But sometimes only a couple of people have a chance to voice an opinion on something before the turn comes around again. And I don't know if any of you have noticed, but we Mad Scientists seem to take a lot of heat if we don't play within a few hours of the turn rolling over to us. :gripe:

[/snark]

Yeah, well you guys have the Oracle after all

Seriously, it must have taken some time to plan out all those permutations surely? Would you have been able to make those plans if MS were ending turn as quick as you are?

True it does guide us.

Yes, We have developped an efficient democratic system (oxymoron...efficient democracy)

Where the team is voting on things that happen in 5-10 turns from now. The current turn has been long since signed sealed and delivered. Any "unexpected" descisions are up to the turn player which is guided by their gut feel for the "will of the team".

You can see based on our post count highly involved discussions do take place.

sort of....We have elected officials (Ninjas) though.

As far as I know, SANCTA is perfectly happy with our democratic process ;) We've had no revolutions, at least ;)

As for the pace of the game - I think it's fine. It's a 24 hour timer - I would have no problem if every team were to take 24 hours. I probably wouldn't care if every team took 25 hours.
