U.S. history textbooks could soon be flavored heavily with Texas conservatism

Wow. They're not only teaching Children wrongly about the history of our Republic, but of the Catholic Faith at the same time.

Psh, not everything about Catholicism is bad. Besides, Thomas Aquinas had a considerable influence on Western philosophy and thought, and his philosophies were extremely positive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomism) and I wouldn't mind him being taught in the classroom more. Still, they are mentioning his name in the wrong period, and wrong time.

I like your AOLer translator

And this is why internet will replace physical media as teaching tool.

Well, digital media, perhaps, but the World Wide Web is not, in itself, inherently virtuous, nor has it demonstrated it's effectiveness as an educational tool.

Your right but the thing about the internet is that it allows someone who is virtuous to use it as a tool to give effective educational material unlike these new textbooks (hey the author Declaration of Independence isn't important?). Internet is what anyone with some time and motivation wants it to be.

What? You don't want our kids to speak like this when they grow up?

Well, what do you mean "internet", exactly? Do you refer to digital distribution, or are particular model through which information is freely shared? Certainly, educational texts require a certain level of professional involvement which cannot be replicated by dumping all the world's knowledge on-line and saying "go get it", and this inevitably incurs a certain expense.

By internet I mean the global network of computers that use the TCP/IP. Any model that used on the internet (theres dozens now) can easily give teacher or even student access to vast pool of knowledge. Professional involvement has already become irreverent to education material in textbook format. Again see the "time and motivation" part of the what you quoted. If someone puts in the time to make garbage while garbage is going to come out but if someone puts in the time to put in gold while gold is coming out. The thing is we have always had a "go get it" attitude when it comes down to knowledge, we just had a guide(teacher) for early years and won't change even after the switch to suing internet as source of teaching material.

Eh, I am talking precisely of removing bias and have a more balanced discussion of the topics at hand. Read my post again; I used the word "balanced" several times. I don't want a right-wing bias to correct the left-wing bias, what I want is to add more balance to topics where currently there is a tremendous lack of it.

Relevance to facts at hand?

What I really don't get is why do they have uneducated people with no background in history or education deciding on these policies? Of course you end up with complete nonsense as happened in Texas.

We have a history of local control of schools, and elected school boards. Education is not a prerequisite for election to the school boards.

I'm surprised Governor-for-life Perry didn't just remove all mentions of America, for the new vigorous, independent Texas!

I love this state and hate hate hate our state government.

Hey one of them is dentist or are you some anti-dentite

Of course not. Detroit's school board president is pretty much functionally illiterate.

If you saw Sunday's Free Press that shown Robert Bobb the emergency financial manager for Detroit Public Schools, move Mark Twain to Boynton which have three times the number seats then students and was one of the reason's he gave for closing school to many empty seats.

Do you know what he means? I have a headache just reading that.

Badly worded. But what he means is that, like a number of other cities, the number of children enrolled in the schools have substantially declined.

I think I just had an aneurysm

But it's mandatory for students to be in school. Does this mean they are getting homeschooled? Or they're just not attending school at all?
