The Sequel to the hit wonder elimination thread.
Please state your reasons for your votes.
Like last time, We'll start at +1/-2.
You can vote once per day.

Voting Criteria
  • Do not vote for something simply because it is doing too well/poorly
  • Do not vote against something because you feel it's too weak/powerful
  • Instead, vote for the purpose it fills (i.e. Does it specialize the civilization? Does it have a use, even a niche one? Does it synergize with the Civ?)

Every time the number of UA's left is halved, the number subtracted in each vote goes up by 1. So, at 12 UA's left it'll be -3, at 6 -4, and at 3 -5.

Aztecs +1: I like the synergy between guns and butter.
Ottomans -2: just a boring mathematical bonus. Plus navies are more or less useless.

GER: Actually makes the game play a bit differently

Caravans: With trade routes and roads so gimped in this, +1 a route won't even cover the cost it takes to build the road. The bonus is much too minimal. If you're going to make a commerce based nation, be a little bit more forceful.
Bushido: Japanese armies are extremely hard to fight in combat because while both your armies are wounded, he can still kick your #$$ just as well as when the battle started.

ARABIA: Synergizes well with the UB. Double oil and double luxury resources makes a ton of money by selling and the +1 gold per trade route makes expansion worth while.

ENGLAND : Just dosen't really help that much and if your another civ you can get +1 movement from SP and Great Lighthouse which is equal to the +2 movement.

Research is the most important part of winning a civ game. And the Babylonians are the best at it. Enough said.
EDIT: Although I might pick Korea after I play with it a bit.
Let me Just say I am going to like this much better that the wonder elimination.

Well the AI's navy isn't so dangerous anyway...

Japan's "Bushido" gives Japan a massive military boost, while England's "Sun Never Sets" just doesn't do enough for me or the AI.

The Iroquois are beasts in forests-- and the best part of this UA is that you receive a bonus to your economy (reduced road maintenance) and military (fast moves in forest).

Much as I love the Age of Sail and the British dominance of the seas in Civ games, this UA is underwhelming to say the least. Naval power has little impact on the game, and this doesn't even help in power, just speed!

*America - The extra sight really only helps in the first 10 turns or so, when looking for goodies, and the discount on buying tiles rarely comes in to play.
*Siam - Huge bonuses from Maritime city states (and cultured!) can turn Siam into a beast, no matter what victory you are going for.

In most games you want your capital to be as big as you can make it, either for trade routes or tradition, but with Rome the twist is that it doesn't need to be large, just hammer heavy. And with Rome, all the important buildings you want to make like libraries and coliseums are 1/4 off, a sizable boon unseen by other unique abilities.

Polynesian wayfinding is gimmicky DLC crap. It's England but less useful in the average case.

Manifest Destiny? awesome in mp mode. Go get these ruins and without a scratch, then sit down and watch your neighbors 1 turn before them. Buy cheap tiles? Go Liberty and don't bother. Underrated civ IMO.

Barbary Corsairs? I rarely need a horde of boats early on. When frigates are online, i only need to build some trireme before navigation. Cities have other things to do in the first(crucial) turns.

Babylon has insane early game science, and late game bulbs.

France-Amazing for getting Social Policies earlier on, combine with Piety and you are cranking out Social Policies like Modern Era civs mysteriously crank out ancient units.

India-Would be fine but it's the only civ which actually features a disadvantage as well. Plus the AI never uses it. In my last game Ghandi had the BIGGEST empire in length but tiny cities. So all the UA did in the disadvantage for many cities didn't bar Ghandi from expanding but it just punished him, no matter how many times Sid Meier rolls in his...office.

Aztecs: Gives a reason to open honour and turn raging barabarians on. Trying to milk as much culture as possible from the savages.
Ottomans: I don't know how the bonus galleys are supposed to work with regards to strategy. maybe it could work out well as early siege but I can't see it. Just a confusing UA.

nice to see another elimination thread,
but every other eliminiation thread was without DLC's or only DLC's, but not both ...

Also I don't understand the voting criteria or better said, what you want ...
I vote for the ua, which is best and against the worst .. or what have you meant with "Do not vote for something simply because it is doing too well/poorly , Do not vote against something because you feel it's too weak/powerful",
and " Instead, vote for the purpose it fills (i.e. Does it specialize the civilization? Does it have a use, even a niche one? Does it synergize with the Civ?" ... each civ is specialized through its ua, and each one has a use ...

... I can't compare UA #1 with UA #2, because there are different, but I can look, which advantage a UA provide and can compare the advantages and some advantages are doing better with a certain gameplay than other....

please correct me ... I don't understand the criteria ....

.... and then there are also again some rather senseless "UA is great" reasons

And I hope I'm wrong, but with the actually write form of the list, it's rather hard to find incorrect votings, if some should be made ... and there were always mistakes at the votings ...

I like elimination threads ;)

Denmark is just an awsome civ on island maps. No cost for landing can make your ranged units even better on island maps.
USA is just bad. + sight is nice but -50 on bying tiles is useless
