Uma Thurman re the Weinstein issue & something to come

She is a good actress: always in role.
One has a feeling there is an epidemy of sexual and power abuse being revealed.

Just watched Bill Maher's show from last night, in one sentence he went from condemning Moore and the GOP for supposedly allowing him into the Senate because they need his vote to explaining why Al Franken shouldn't resign because Democrats need his vote. His argument? They're not the same. No, they're not, and neither should be in the Senate. Not one guest disagreed, sorry LeeAnn, you're not gonna find much support from the Democrats on this. They'll pay lip service because they know the hypocrisy they're inviting in for the holidays but they aint gonna hold Franken accountable. Oh look, Franken has called for an ethics investigation. Gee, what a guy, our hero... Sickening partisan hacks. If the Alabama GOP rejects Moore's bid for the Senate, will Democrats then demand Franken's resignation? Hell no...

[party] I love that the far right cannot see any difference between one unwanted kiss, already admitted and apologized for, and years of habitual child molestation with innumerable victims.

Isn't the Franken case about breast groping?
He possibly thought of it as humorous, yet it isn't all that savoury as you make it seem either ;)

While she was asleep, he had a picture taken of himself with his hands poised as if to grope.

She didn't accuse him of having his hands poised as if to grope. She accused him of groping her breasts. And that he did so while she was asleep doesn't really make it funnier or better in any way, of course ;)

Is that the version of the story that goes around in your social circle?

I'm certainly curious about what Thurman has to say. I understand her wanting to hold her tongue for a moment, though. I can see just from this clip that she's furious about something, and I know from experience that speaking when you've got steam coming out of your ears isn't always the path of wisdom.

I haven't seen Maher's show, so I can't comment on that, but you have a few misapprehensions here. First, Tweeden has publicly accepted Franken's apology and said she is not asking for his resignation or expulsion. Second, Franken has gotten criticism from Democrats, including several Senators and the Minnesota Democratic Party, and both the people asking for a Senate ethics committee and the committee itself are bipartisan.

I think it's common for conservatives - not just the far right - to try to make one-to-one parallels and draw succinct analogies, try to distill things down as much as possible. "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." Conservatives are more likely to prefer orderliness and structure, and are more likely to get anxious when something seems not to have a discernible architecture. It's partly why organizations with strict hierarchies lean conservative, for example. I read a study somewhere that found that conservatives even tend to have better-organized living spaces, while liberals are more likely to be slobs. If X is true for A, then X - or at least Y - should be true for B; if it isn't the same, it should at least follow.

From what I've seen, Tweeden herself is more upset about the kiss than the photo.

Re Maher, his monologue about Franken is the following (it is Maher, so it has cursing, so iirc i should just give the link to protect the children :yup: ) youtube @ 0L41nue6Iq0

I don't think this is good. Ok, i can agree that Franken doesnt equal Moore, but Maher also mentions Trump, who - like Franken - is a scary professional clown role-playing he can attract hot women and from time to time orchestrating a sketch where he does :)

Anyway, this isn't the actual topic of the thread. I'd rather think of Uma than Franken

He wrote a skit designed to get her backstage for his sexual assault... But here's what I said:

His argument? They're not the same. No, they're not, and neither should be in the Senate.

Jeffrey Tambor leaves "Transparent" after being accused... Not to get all political ;) but I'm noticing most of these offenders are liberal Democrats

No, he actually groped her. I saw the picture in question and his hand was definitely on her breast.

but I'm noticing most of these offenders are liberal Democrats

And notice all the Democrats and leftists (including the ones here) rushing to either defend them or minimize their offenses? Yeah, that just confirms what everyone's been saying for years: That Democrats and their supporters are just as disgustingly partisan and hypocritical as Republicans and their supporters.

Who here is doing that? Because I haven't really seen that.

Al Franken shouldn't resign because Democrats need his vote. His argument?
It's weird that people thinking Franken resigning would be a loss of a dem vote. The Minnesota governor is a democrat and would appoint someone until a special election (which would probably be held on 2018 midterms). A democrat would almost certainly win in 2018 midterms as well as 2020 (when the term ends).
