Conquistador (Spain) - 23 -3 = 20 Seriously? Not only does melee line suck (only thing worse is spear line) compared to archers and horses, this unit's bonuses is the epitome of uselessness (eagles can make builders to improve luxes to further increase their damage, and legion at least have a builder charge... You get redcoats for free from conquest... anything you get for free cannot be that bad... combat bonus is great too. Ngao? well ngao is useless too but at least the resistance against ranged and the faster movement and sight in jungle can still be made use of... unlike this unit's bonuses). If I want to go on a domination run I'd just go straight for military and not bother with holy sites to get a religion, thank you very much. They could make it +10 when there is a religious unit around and playing normally, I'd still probably won't use it.

Hetairoi (Macedon/Alexander) - 23 + 1 = 24 These were so strong in Vanilla, particularly because without fixed eras the deity AI is so fond of buying the first GG and then you are stuck with the next era GG which cost 120 points--used to be these guys were my only reliable way of getting the early GG; their extra bonuses with GG is a great synergy. Not requiring horses and upgrading to knights... if you play deity sure you must realize how fantastic that is that you don't need a chariot wave to be upgraded after the initial horse rush... only Macedon gets a horse rush, followed by a knight rush--knights which already have the +7 to districts promotion by that time and so just eat up whatever's left of the map. In RnF 60 pts GGs are easier to come by now so any civ can get them easily with enough dedication, and I suppose Magnus does circumvent not having 2 horses with the right promotions, but still, these are strong as ever.

Pítati Archer (Nubia) – 38 = (37 + 1) I played games with Monty and Rome the last couple days just to test whether this unit is still better than theirs. The answer is yes. Eagle Warrior is great only of you are close range to an enemy that doesn't have a similarly strong early unit. Also, on deity, AI ramps up quickly and can stop an Eagle Warrior rush just with a single archer in their city. Usually they will also have several warriors and possibly barbs hanging about. Eagle Warriors high production cost means it takes time to build a rush and you are too late half the time. Legion is powerful but comes later than the Nubian Archer which is just a more powerful unit since it can hit Legion without being hit back. War Cart is the closest competitor to Nubian Archer with strength and mobility. But the archer can strike without being hit, so it's the best.

Conquistador (Spain) - 17 (20 - 3) Maybe it's simply because I don't enjoy the religious aspect of this game, but I find it too much of a hassle to have every single one of my conquistadors trying to escort a missionary. Not worth it cost/benefit wise.
Cossack (Russia) - 23 (22 + 1) Pretty much one of the only times I'll make a bunch of horsemen is as Russia. Cavalry charge is after knights, sure, but these guys make up for it with their movement. Not to mention defending captured cities on the warfront. Base horsemen get outdated quickly, but you can just make a bunch and throw them to the meat grinder until you get cossacks.

Conquistador (Spain) - 14 (17-3) As the game progresses, already dominant cavalry become even more important. While the Conquistador is the only Spanish bonus that doesn't totally suck, bee-lining Military Science and building Cavalry seems like a better idea 99% of the time.

Eagle Warrior (Aztec) - 30 = (29+1) I disagree that these are situational. Every military unit requires someone nearby to use it on. If you're restricting yourself to using these in the ancient era you're missing the point of these entirely. It's not that the Eagle Warrior is a stronger warrior, it's that it's a source of free builders. Free builders are such an enormous economic boost that it justifies keeping these units around into later eras. Support them with a couple other melee units and a bunch of ranged units and position them intelligently to finish off a weakened enemy. I've managed to get free builders all the way to the industrial era.

War-Cart (Sumer) - 38 = (41-3) If we're starting to trim points off the strong units this one should be a little lower. Raw combat power just isn't that interesting to me. In a game with an AI that's such a pushover you're going to win any war as long as you're intelligent and careful about how you play, you don't need a big military unit to beat the AI. If you're hunting deer a rifle is just fine, a bazooka is more powerful, but is it really any more useful than the rifle?
