Here's an idea why don't we we create a unit request and unit request discussion thread.

Because people won't use one thread to discuss things that are in another thread; it just doesn't work naturally. I was wondering what the best way is to address this problem; we could have a unit request thread where you may only post requests, but it seems harsh not to allow people to say things like "That unit has been done already" and so on. I think there will inevitably be some discussion, at least, and there's not much one can do about it. I have to say the main thing that puts me off the existing unit request thread is that as someone said, virtually all the requests, at least the recent ones, are for tanks, planes, and modern infantry, none of which interests me in the slightest.

Some of us think that all we ever see are Swordsman, War Elephants, Spearman, and the occasional Fantasy unit.

Some of us realize that a great majority of the units being created are for modern tanks, planes, ships and infantry. TopGun and Wyrmshadow alone create many high quality modern units all the time. And NavyDawg always makes some great modern infantry units. It's only about once or twice a month you get a spearman, swordsman, etc. And the last time I saw a War Elephant on these forums was in.... February? Maybe even last year!

Yeah but airplanes are cooler.

You could organize it as a new forum, requiring that the title of each thread be the name/description of the request. That way if someone is interested, they'd simply open the thread, read any other details of the request, and respond if necessary.

War Elephants?? I wish we had more! ;)

I 2nd this.

I think this is just a really good idea. It will encourage discussion of requests without burying individual requests with the dozen(s) of potential replies to a different request.

That is brilliant.

Ooh and we can post a list of old requests.

That's a great idea! And when a request is made, the thread can be deleted, so that only relevant requests are in that forum.

Rather lock the threads than deleting them. That way it's easier to keep track of what's already been made.

I like the idea of a 'Request Forum'. :)

As all have said, this is an ingenius idea! It will greatly organize all the requests and help the unit-makers sift through the requests that interest them faster. No more random spam burrying the actual unit requests. And I agree with deleting requests once they are done, no need in having old threads making it harder to locate up-to-date ones. We could of course have a sticky thread listing requests that have been completed. This must be done immediately.

And just for the record, I like tanks, elephants, jets, spearman, battleships, and canoes...everything is awesome to me. As Quinzy said, each scenario has units it needs, so all are important...although, I wouldn't mind seeing WAY more Japanese units. That would make the creation process for my scenario considerably easier. ;)

You and I know whats been made. And we know how to use the Libraries. Newbies will miss the locked threads anyway, so I vote for deleting ;)
It's very presumptuous to make it more difficult for all but those you consider to have perfect memories. Not all units get posted into a library thread. All units are not even in the new DL db - some are still buried as uploads in threads. Why delete ways to find things unless replaced with a more useful and complete way, as Gen. Rommel suggests.
