There's been a B-52 bomber model available for about two years now.

Nope. Movies like Top Gun and Stealth are too unrealistic for me. I don't think there's really been any modern aircraft movie that has been terribly accurate, so I end up watching documentaries.
Hot Shots doesn't count, 'cause that's a parody (and hella funny).
At the time it was made (1982) it was about a plane that the West did not know about (the "real" MiG-31 was not even photographed by the West until 1985). The Movie Firefox is more an espionage movie then a fighter movie... it's about Western Intelligence smuggling a pilot into the Soviet Union to steal the MiG-31 and fly it back to the west.

You should not discount the movie out-of-hand without ever having seen it... for those old enough to remember the mindset of the Cold War and the difficulties of cloak and dagger operations, it's quite a good movie... it's not like a Top Gun or Iron Eagle type of movie at all... and once again, you have to remember it was released in 1982 at a tension high point in the Cold War.

It's a movie meant for entertainment, it's not supposed to be a documentary... I suppose you don't like Star Wars either (because there's no sound in space... how unrealistic). :p

Actually, that stuff does tend to bug me, along with a bunch of other cliches, like how everyone of an alien race shares the same culture and religion, how "organic technology" is somehow superior to all other technology, how gravity weapons seem to be the most powerful weapons in the universe, how plasma weapons always tend to be slow moving balls of energy, how species suddenly "evolve" in beings of pure energy (then move around like a cloud of gas instead of at the speed of c), the way ships bank when turning in space like they were still moving in atmosphere and the way "quantum" seems to trump all other branches of physics.
The difference is that sci-fi requires a certain amount of suspension of belief, but movies set in a more "realistic" tone I find harder to follow.

So you must really hate the Yellow Submarine then! :D

Hi there. :)

I'm looking for a graphic artist, one who would want to work with me on a few things. Basically, I am looking for someone interested in historical fiction and modern weapons that originated in the Soviet Union/America during the late Cold War. The artist should also have an affinity for post-apocalyptic settings, though the scenario will not be post-apocalyptic, many of the settings will look as such. I know a lot of units have been made that will serve my purpose, such as the T-72 tank, BMPs, etc.

Here is what I need, specifically, and if they already exist please point me in their direction. If there is an artist who wants to know what I'm doing and would want to work with me, feel free to respond or PM me.

M1 Abrams, AH-64 Apache, some sort of American Special Forces graphic that differs from the Navy SEAL graphic, some sort of American mechanized inf., American national guard, a cool American partisan unit (but I can use pre-existing units made if need be, on a lot of these), and I want to create a special partisan unit, a sort of "hero"... if anyone is interested in designing it, I can specify what I mean through PM or something... then I've been looking everywhere for a mounted unit, a horse unit, that has a rifle or machine gun, and that looks modern. Can't find one, and I imagine such a unit would be fun for someone to make. Mil Mi-24 helicopter, spetsnaz USSR commando unit, late Cold War-era Soviet infantry and paratroopers, late Cold-War era Central American/Mexican infantry, RPG-7 infantry units, and whatever else someone wants to add.

I know its a tall order, but if anyone sees anything listed there and knows of an existing unit, or would like to make one, I'd be much obliged. :)

I have a Mexican infantry and anti-tank guy in my mod (see signature). A lot of the other units have already been made, like I'm sure if you use the search function, and search for " M1 Abrams" you'll get a hit. Also, for the American Mech Inf, look no further than the one that came with the game. ;)

Not really a tall order at all... except on your part... you might want to try looking at the mods around here for units, because with few (if any) exceptions, every unit you are requesting has already been done...

M1A1s, AH-64, RPG-7, Mexican Infantry, Partisans, etc, etc... pretty much what you asked for already exists... they're scattered across many mods... might want to try the Wolfshanze Mod, Modern Warfare & Cultural Diversity for starters... the units you ask for are already in them. Did you look before asking for any of these?

Not all units are in the unit download database... many, MANY units not found there can be found in mods that focus on unit diversity, such as the ones I listed above... so once again, what you ask isn't a tall order for any of us, because the work has already been done... if you want them, you just need to do the legwork, download the big custom mods and cherry-pick what you want from them.

Thanks for the tip, guys. I'm sorry, I had only looked in the downloads section of the main Civfanatics site, and I had browsed the forums a bit, but I have not examined the mods you mentioned, but now I will give them an in-depth look. Thank you!

Modern Warfare, Wolfshanze's Mod, Cultural Diversity, Varietas Delectat and my mod should be your first steps. Between them you should be able to cover a lot of ground.

You should also search the download database, chances are it also includes some units you could use (e.g. Zervers modern units for various countries or special forces).

As to a more modern cavalry, your best bet probably are seZereth's WW1 units.

These units/mods look great, everyone. I will definitely give credit where credit is due. I guess I should have been searching the mods download section and not the units download section. I saw a lot of those units and downloaded them - I am just very picky. For example, the Carthaginian modern inf. unit looked amazing for my partisan unit, but then I noticed the Carthage-specific helmet, which is excellent for a mod to the real game but not really useful for my specific scenario. I am designing a scenario based around the concept that NATO dissolves and the Soviets attack the United States in 1989. Of course there is a lot of unrealism to this scenario, so my goal is to focus on the fun factor, and not necessarily the accuracy, though I do want some flavor elements to be accurate, such as equipment and power rankings. Think of the movie, Red Dawn, but take away the bad acting and flimsy battle scenes and let you root for the Soviets if you want to, and that's what you have. I do plan to have a Wolverines special partisans unit though for the Americans, that will start out in Colorado near the Soviet-Mexican siege of Denver. :D

Just wanted to let you guys know what your units would be used for.

Well, I listed Cultural Diversity since it's already "infected" with V.D.! (Hehe). Killed two-birds with one stone on that one!

Hello, I´m searching for some modern russian infantrymen. I could need a Paratrooper, looking like this. http://www.sharecg.com/images/large/16965.jpg
And a Marine would be good, too. They can both use an AK47. The Paratrooper should get a barret an the marine a helmet for better differencing.

And that´s not a must but a new weapon for the paratrooper would be awesome. I thought about an AKSU 74 (http://www.military.cz/russia/weapons/guns/ak-47/aksu.jpg)
This rifle is much shorter than the AK47 which would make it much better fitting to a paratrooper in my opinion.
Ok... i made this but is a marine, You have to convert in dds and use with the Hungarian marine that comes with http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7437 i hope it could be useful... even if He's not a paratroop

(edit at 2.03 pm Italy - I've re upload cause I made some error) Sorry... i'm goig on making errors... I will finish this night, now i've to go at work

True, the VD FPKs are included with CD, I just am not sure if it is the most recent version, but hey, 2 days from now there is a new CD and chances are it then will include the most recent version :)
