Unit requests thread

i will quantify the phrase "greatest warship of ww2"

What other ship liberated Free French islands, went from France to England to America to Canada to Nova Scotia then to Bermuda?

What other ship fought the germans, british, and americans?
and refueled u-boats?

What other ship was the largest submarine at the start of the war?

What other ship had plans for the idea of launching a small assault craft?

What other ship had stories of a kidnapped reporter? an unclear end,
British spies aboard ect.

Surcouf the greatest ww2 ship and everyone knew it - the British scrapped their sub/cruiser idea because -some say- they did not want the Germans to perfect it and bombard their coast.

Bearn? Richelieu? Both had better service records for France then the Surcouf and did more for their nation.

As for "Greatest WW2 ship and everyone knew it"... Sorry to say, that honor sure wouldn't fall on a French ship... you have a very warped and/or biased sense of reality my friend. Your statements are too bombastic to be taken seriously.

LOL! Gee mate I think you need to be careful, if you push that tongue any further into your cheek its gonna come out the other side.

Dan

lol, a bit tongue in cheek no doubt, but in so far as the original request it might make for an interesting graphic-a Submarine/Cruiser hybrid with a plane.
Thanks for the Bearn, Richelieu references.

Not a problem... naval history is my thing in general... WWII naval history is my speciality. I know all sorts of useless information about mostly unheard of ships in WWII from the most obscure of navies. France is easy... don't make me start quoting the Portugese naval order of battle during WWII... because I can if you want!

I would actually be very interested in that. :)

(I'm serious!)
I have an extensive WWII library of books in my study... including every warship and merchant ship in WWII from every navy in the world... belligerant or neutral... what do you want to know?

Well, I suppose this isn't the place for it, but ideally it would be a list of the major ships at the start of the war. I think Equuleus knows of a site with all of them, though, including their locations.

Do you perhaps ahve a WWII aircraft library? :D
I should get one of those books I see at Borders every day... :mischief:

If anyone wants help I could convert the trains from railroads. :mischief:
Or I could make it myself... :nya:
Where would it go though? On railroads? :hmm:

I tried to plug in the nif files from Railroads! and it did not work. They seem to be in a slightly different format than the civ4 nif files :(

To answer you other question, yes, they would only go onto railroads using this mod http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=255718 :)

Hopefully it works.

That would take some serious typing. I could easily list all warships of a minor navy like Portugal, or give you ship names/classes of more major navies one at a time if you wanted from a bigger naval power. I do have naval links, but most web sites only cover the major navies like US, Japan, England, etc... it's much harder to find sources on navies like Argentina, Thailand, Romania, etc... I have specific information on every navy in the war, beligerant or neutral... so if you have some specific request, that you can't find an on-line source for, just PM me or start a new thread or something.

My naval sources are about as complete as can be... I can say with some certainty that I have 100% of every warship and merchant ship from every nation on earth during WWII on record in book-form in my study.

I don't think my air sources are quite as extensive... I have most aircraft from the war covered to my knowledge... and have a pretty solid understanding/listings/stats of most neutral and minor nations as well, but I know it's not 100% complete (though I have a lot).

I accumulated a TON of book referances during my research for Pacific General, which included most nations during the war and over 2,000 units I included in the game... so I needed extensive research material for the project (plus general interest I had accumulated in several decades of studying military history and WWII in-particular).

Once again, if you have a specific request, and PM me, that would be simpler then saying "list every plane from every nation in WWII"... that's a little beyond what I'd like to type at one sitting.

I can also recomend certain books if you're looking to increase your own personal library at home.

Well I know a way to convert it...
(and its already been converted :p)
You just export a .obj and then import it to the node, then import it into Blender and rig each vertice to each bone...
*makes no sense to anyone*

Any or all of these would be useful:

Bf-110
Fw-109D
He-177
Ju-88
Hawker Typhoon
Vickers Wellington
...and the Gloster Meteor

Thanks!

I assume the Fw-109D is the Fw190D. The Fw-190 (might be A rather than D) and Meteor are already available as is the Wellington. All are used in the Road to War mod. I think the Ju-88 is already there also but not sure.

Bf-110
Fw-109D (if it's the FW-190... already done in "A" model)
He-177
Ju-88 (already done... floating around here and in my mod)
Hawker Typhoon
Vickers Wellington (I think this is done, but not sure)
...and the Gloster Meteor (already done)

Thanks!

What we could use is the Martin B-10 bomber... used by several nations, including the US, Dutch, Turks, Chinese, Thailand, etc, etc. Preferably in team-color due to widespread use.

Yeah -- typo. I meant the Fw-190D (Dora -- long nose) ;)

I already have the Fw190a. Could not find the Meteor and the Wellington other than for CivIII.

Thanks for checking.
