Unit requests thread

I wonder if an Indian Grenadier would work? Not sure if there is such a thing, but sounds like that would fit the bill.

Yeah that was basically what I was looking for but I don't think any of the native unit sets have them so was wondering if there was anyone interested in making it and then making it look a bit shamany like the native great person in the unit downloads.
 
I was trying to create two "Industrial/Modern" Great Prophets for Europe. One for Mediterranean civs and one for Northern European civs. I was also attempting to create an ancient European great spy. I did this by using models from Civ4Col and from FfH. I am not sure precisely what occured, but in all cases I did remove a "bone" in order to perform a simple NifSwap. I am pretty sure that is what happened in either case because every other unit I have created similarly (Native American Great Engineer and Scientist, Renaissance European Great Engineer, and Northern European Great Merchant to name a few) has worked, and in each of those cases I did not remove a bone.

The first three units mentioned (European Ancient Spy, Mediterranean Great Prophet and Northern European Great Prophet) did not work in-game. The result of placing them in world builder was a CTD. I have posted all three of these units in the hope that somebody could fix them for me, or at least tell me what to do to fix them myself. I think these units would be useful to a lot of people, so if you are able to help me get them to work you would be doing a service for the community. :goodjob:

sorry the units you uploaded are not salvageable. Only the early spy i could fix - but even there i had to use the original model (i quickly "knew" the original model and therefore found it quickly).

Never remove bones of a mesh if the is no equivalent in the other nif. If the target nif has missing bones you have to copy the missing bones first [eg you can see that i added the cape bones] before you nifswap the mesh. If you remove bones like you did the mesh will not work. (and would need a rerig [or exchange of the "NiSkinInstance"]). The only disadvantage will be that the added bones have no animation info - there the cape is not animated. [but of course you could copy / add the animation infos for the cape by hand to all kfs]

But becauso most civ4 models are similar in shape you could also remove the entire "NiSkinInstance" in nifskope and rerig the model in Blender. And because the models are quite similar, in most cases this script should do the job ;)

and btw: this could be a good way to reduce the amount of needed textures of custom leaderheads [if they are a composition of 3 - 4 vanilla lh - because you could merge all this texture to one] - it would even apply to units - but to a much lower degree

The best option for the dragon would be to use my gloss map and add some metal plates onto the skin.

This combination would be exactly waht I've been trying to create:thumbsup:.
The ways I tryed to get it only lead me to failurs:dunno:, so It all depends on you guys now:salute:.
 
Back again with yet another half-finished unit I am unable to import into Blender for whatever reason. I'm pretty good at following instructions, when they are laid out specifically (and when I get to bug you about them, just ask Ekmek), so if anyone of the better unit-makers out there are listening a nice how to make units in Blender tutorial would be awesome. :goodjob:

Anyway, to my unit. I hate saying this, but this should be easy for someone with the know-how to do it. Basically I NifSwapped an Aztec Jaguar on to a Cuirassier's horse, but in game it looks like it is laying on the ground, it looks the same in NifSkope, but I am unable to import it into Blender for whatever reason so I don't know how to fix it. I COULD just rotate the model in NifSkope, but there is no way I am going to get it perfectly aligned using that method. If anyone could help me with this that'd be awesome. :goodjob:

EDIT: Don't worry, I got a bunch of decently cool ethnic GP I've thrown together that I'll post when I get a nice set of them ready, so don't feel as if though you are helping me in vain.

  • make both meshes a child of the Cuirassier Node
  • move both meshes exactly in the opposite direction of the Cuirassier Node (means: -121.7790, -3.9549, -1.1399 ) - you could also try to simply set the position of the Cuirassier Node to 0,0,0
  • rotate both meshes y 90 degree
  • bonus: exchange the position of the horse mesh and the Cuirassier in the children array)
  • or use the attached file ...

and you know that there are some fitting tutorials threads ;) - this one would fit quite perfect in the Nifscope tutorial.

I also don´t know what kind of problem you had with blender - i could import your file without any changes?

It said something like script error (maybe something else, I don't remember off-hand) check console. I don't remember what the error itself said, but all that imported was the skeleton. I suppose I'll try to get into learning to make units, the only problem is I am working on a mod and I'm pretty much doing everything myself (with a few exceptions, like when people like you help me out), that includes things like units and graphics (which I'm more comfortable with) but also includes coding which I am not so great at. I don't necessarily have as much time as I'd like to learn all of this, so I have to learn what I can when I can. Kinda sucks.

Anyway, my mod is nearly finished, so I really appreciate it when people help me out (especially with such speed), so thanks. :goodjob:

Basically, it's a siege unit like a catapult, but I want the bombardment/attack animation to be that of the worker digging a mine... I don't need any new graphic art, just the animation of the worker unit with the worker graphic to occur during attacks. I don't think I can simply do this through unitclassinfo.xml as there is no way that I can see to determine what animation to use in attacks (although there are plenty of choices for build animations).

Currently, the attack animation is basically the worker/sapper standing and doing nothing.

I hope someone can help me in this.
 
This is not so much a unit request as a question to the modeling community.
Where do you get your blueprints? I have been looking for a good web site but have found nothing really good.

For this you'll have to modify the kfm file of the unit. You can do that with Esemjay's KFM Converter.

If you get this to work, I would very much like to see a post on it -- since I have had sappers in my game for awhile and would love to have a better animation than the laughable one I got now.
 
Hi, I hace tried my hands at blender, but the results have been... unimpressive so far. Non-existent, actually. I hope this doesn't require too much time or work, but could it be possible to create rebones/mashups of the FfH
- Ogres
- Orcs (minus the spikes, but feel free to include them)
- Dwarves
- Goblins (enlargened to human size)

with
- medieval Chinese
- late Renaissance era,
-Industrial/Napoleonic and
- WW1
uniforms and equipment?

AFAIK both exist, all that is needed is a crossover. Like a fat Ogre in the Uniform of a Prussian Grenadier, for example.

If someone else finds the time, I would be extremely gratified if the main characters from the Journey To The West would also find their way into the unit db.

This is sort of a request for a unit, but mostly for a skin. I remember seeing a female Celtic Archer or Horsearcher (maybe something else, I don't remember) which was basically the female settler model. She had all white clothing and the celtic tattoos. I can't find it anymore and I need that skin. I already have the one where she has a light brown/tan top and a tartan/plaid colored skirt, but I need the one that was all white, if anybody could help me find this unit that would be helpful. Thanks.
 
Hi guys.

Creating unit art sets at the moment I had to find out that the Mobile SAM is almost the same in all unit art mods. It's the same unit with the same skin. Would somebody like to change it? :)

There's only a not animated model in this pack.
 
One of the projects I was working on was an animated ballista. I took the ballista, removed the base, added wheels, and put it on the Hwacha's skeleton. I then made a simple firing animation, but it never really worked correctly.

Nah, that one isn't usable for me. I THINK I got the original skin from either an older version of EMM, VD, Diversica, or maybe something else. So if anyone has any old versions of those (or something similar) I would really like to get my hands on this skin.
