Units From Wyrmshadow

Oh? I thought it was common knowledge. :p

It's just a great big tank I found on Google Sketchup Warehouse. But for some odd reason it's no longer online, I tried in vain to find it last night because I couldn't find it on my comp for a while. Then I spent a few hours just cleaning up the model. Whoever made it originally created a very detailed model but the scale is hard to judge. I did my best and came up with 17.35m in length. He even left the shells inside the cannon barrels. From that I was able to determine they are Coil Guns instead of conventional cannons.
Original file was 90mb.. after a lot of work I was able to cut it down to just 27mb.

That is definitely one strange looking tank. I'm surprised you were able to do so much to a sketchup model.

Oh, you'd be surprised at some of the very rare but quality models some poeple post on there. This was one of them. It originaly came with individual track links, but I had to toss them and modify my standard Leo2 tracks to fit the new model. Also the conversion process messed up more than a few facets, so I had to spend a long time fixing them, and combining parts to make the overall file much much smaller.

Original file was 4217 objects. I cut it down to 118 without losing any detail.

Thats is some good compressing. Glad you could find some tracks that worked that would have been quite the job completely redoing those.

Just waiting for Ares to do the sounds. This doesn't even have ALL the animations.

Interesting. The original vehicle looks like someone took a couple of AMX-13 turrets, and joined them with a centerpiece, doctored the gun barrels a bit, and modified the chassis. The animation is nice. I wonder if Wyrmshadow has ever seen any images of the massive German Maus tank. I'll have to see if I can find my German tank stuff, and maybe post a couple of images. Be very interesting to see what might be done with a few of some of the odder German ideas.

CAUTION: IF YOU ARE ALERGIC TO SARCASM, DO NOT GO BEYOND THIS POINT.
Spoiler :

I don't know what I should do. Should I try to be polite or just my usual charming self?
I'll go with what I know.

Nope. Looks nothing like a turret from an AMX-13

no, yet again

a bit? Again, looks nothing like for former to say it was doctored from.

Not even close. 8 tracks on 4 seperate 'legs' that are physicaly seperated from the main hull.... I don't see the resemblence.

Well you got one thing right, I can give you that :goodjob:

No. I do not know what a Maus is. Nor have I ever created and animated one as a civ3 unit in the past 3 years for the Storm Over Europe scenario. No, not me. That was some other knowlegable and detail oriented unit maker that knows about that stuff.

Oh please do, as I've never heard of such things.

Hmmm, there is sarcasm and then there is sarcasm. I take it that any further comments from me on the thread would be most unappreciated. Oh well, it is your loss and the community's, not mine.

Btw, doing the sounds for such a great unit was fun. If anybody can figure out what I made the run sound of, he'll get a virtual ice cream.

Really, Mr. Wyrmshadow, there's no need to be rude.

I was referring to the original turret of the AMX-13 tank, with the automatic loader projecting well behind the center of the turret. The driver is still located in the left front of the hull. The articulated chassis is different, and I did say that it was modified. I had not run a check on whether or not someone had played around with the German Maus tank, I was just wondering if you had ever done so. As most of my Civ3 gameplay is on my Macintosh computers, I do not download scenarios since they very rarely work and I do not have the time nor inclination to spend trying to debug them. I was under the apparently mistaken impression that that was a legitimate question.

As for the other posted images, they do not match any of the WW2 German projects that I was thinking about scanning in from some of my personal reference books. Based on your response, any interest that I had in so doing has disappeared. I will allow you to do your own research.

I am also quite possibly older than your father, whom I trust that you treat with somewhat more respect than members of the forum that disagree with you. I have probably forgotten more about military equipment and history than most people on the forum will ever know. I also find myself on a regular basis, after participating on the various Internet forums which provide that utter anonymity which so many people enjoy abusing, asking myself why I do the consulting work for the US government that I do.

As there'ss so much "Ratte" humor floating around, I thought I'd post this relative scale illustration of the "Landkreuzer P. 1000 Ratte". It would have weighed about 8x the Maus, with a main 2 x 280mm naval guns and armor to match (up to 9").

The second pix is an attempt to reconstruct what the beast might have looked like, bristling with secondary armament (1 x 128mm; 8 x 20mm Flak 38; 2 x 15mm mg). It does indeed bear some resemblance to Wyrmshadow's creation.

Best To All,

Oz
