Up for an expansive game?

Indeed. Relax guys!

Regular SGs thrive on deep strategical discussion, not extreme micro-management.
Beyond the very first turns it's best to keep it broad.
Sorry :mischief:
My only experience of SG games is of reading SGOTM top team threads so obviously...

@pomthom: I PMed killroyan since he posted first, but if he doesn't show up or wanna stay on the lurking side, I'll put you in the roster. I hope that's ok with you.
No problem! We can wait until the end of the roster

(how about we rename it "The Evidence"?)
This is the superior!!

Whipping away resources does not necessarily pay back, especially without a Granary.

It is usually best to settle the second city as soon as possible. However, if this means that you must whip away the Cow and the Gold, the capital comes out with +1 :food: -6 :hammers: -7 :commerce: per turn until it regrows to size 3 (+4 :food: -24 :hammers: -28 :commerce: , by the looks of it), and then -1 :food: -3:hammers: until it regrows to size 4 (+1 :food: -33 :hammers: -28 :commerce: total?). Will settling a second city 3–4 turns sooner compensate for this?

Perhaps a 1-pop Settler whip @ size 4? That way the capital can continue to work the Gold and grow back onto the Cows.
Yes yes I got carried away because the whipping scenario was mentioned but you're perfectly right.

By the time we are able to 1-pop whip we would actually have 4 strong improved tiles (if no chop) so I actually would advocate no whipping in that scenario.

So the way I see it:
A. Stagnate at size 3 + chop before improving Pigs ; or
B. Stagnate at size 3 until Archery, grow on Archer, Stagnate at size 4 and whip something else @size 5 or 6

Ah, that's too bad, you've missed out on some great games/threads in this forum -- much more fun to follow than SGOTM. You should go back and read a few over the holidays. :scan:

Yes sir. Any specific examples in mind?

If you're willing to go all the way back to Warlords then acidsatyr and Mutineer's games come recommended. :old:

Good luck guys, I will keep lurking. I am swamped at work and RL for the next three weeks. The land looks good to be honest. Lots of food and GOLDDDDDD!!!! (Insert Daffy Ducks: Mine, mine!! It is all mine!!!!) :P

I'm sorry, but I overslept four hours. Had to get to work =(. I will post something tomorrow.

Good to hear back from you. If you feel you won't make it by friday, PM me or post here, we can always swap people. But we need to keep things alive and moving :goodjob:

@pomthom: I forgot to post yesterday, but welcome on board!

pomthom plan looks nice.

I will follow it but work gold instead on turn 35.

warrior will walk to gold in the SE. Archer will walk to forest E of wheat and settler between wheat and gold.

I have time to play this tonight.

The one in post 111 and 113.

I really think we shouldn't whip away gold nor cow, so you should go for a 1 pop whip from size 4 or no whip at all...

Make sure to keep our capital safe still :mischief: (*barb panic mode: ON*)

I stopped here to suggest that we settle N of gold to get the copper.

It might not be as good city as between wheat and gold later but getting copper now is worth a lot.

The evidence is clear: you didn't read my post

Here is the situation:

I would move the warrior south east to check for food. I don't like your site tbh, If we want copper I wouldn't trash the wheat/gold site for it, my 2 cent. I guess you should wait for team input before settling the city.

An option is to settle between gold and rice on the forest.

I stopped because I think it is an important decision and the team should be part of it.

I put my vote on the forest between rice and gold.

It also gets to work the cow until gold/copper/rice is improved so it will have a faster start.

It also blocks Isabella from expanding in our direction.

But it can loose everything but wine to deity cultural pressure. It has no fresh water, and will be average down the road.
I am not quite sure of the value of copper now we have archery (I mean for city #2, we can settle it a tiny bit later): ofc it eases barb defense and improvement defense, but I don't see a valuable city site here (with our current knowledge of the map I mean).

My vote is on moving that warrior before deciding :)

edit: btw, I am not sure lurkers can see it from the pic I posted, but Izzy has settled that desert hill in the floodplain area in the north east

Sounds good to me particularly given location of Izzy's newest city.
