Up for an expansive game?

I agree with Ras on this one: move Warrior to uncover potential food. I don't like the idea of settling a sub city for city 2 just to claim the Bronze when we already made the Archery detour.

The evidence is clear- I just reread Ras's last post and my previous sentence and realized I have brought nothing new :crazyeye:

I'm thinking the Warri move 1SE might unfog a dear so that we could settler 1SW of Bronze on the PH. Otherwise, I prefer leaving the Bronze for now and settle 2E1N of Wheat (because 2E of Wheat doesn't gain that much potential from what I see, and more shared tiles for city 2 is stronger IMO)

BTW I think Izzy's new city is perfect because that means she will not be able to claim the Northern Gold (EDIT: actually she might be eyeing green cows + gold in our backyard, so we'll have to watch out)
 
Copper right now brings little, much better to settle the city optimally. The dry rice is still a poor tile -- don't rate it at all seeing as we already have access to the resource. IMO stick to wheat+gold.

My worry about moving warrior 1SE is that there's a barb archer lurking there. Resulting in dead warrior and perhaps a near full health C1 barb archer if we're unlucky.
 
IMO, settle the site between the Wheat and the Gold and start a Warrior or Archer. Move the Worker to the tile 1E of the Wheat and chop. Finish the chop when Pottery is in and put the hammers into a Granary. Then move 1W to farm the Wheat. Maximize growth and, at size 2, whip. When the city grows back, the Gold should be just about mined.
 
I still prefer to settle to block off Isabella. It carves us a pretty nice piece of land.

But Our decision should be if we settle 2E or 2EN of wheat.

I prefer 2EN as we will not need to risk our archer scouting it and I do not see any reason 2E would turn into a better city.
 
I agree to use the cow overlap (2E1N) as the tiles we've discovered to the south are worse than expected.
The part about archer scouting is another factor, so it seems superior in every way now.
 
Shall I settle the city tonight or should someone else take over?
 
An argument to consider is that if we settle copper-rice first we'll probably still get goldwheat. If we settle goldwheat first there's less likelihood of getting copper-rice before Izzy.
 
Done.

The archer looked scary so I did not dare to chop the forest E of wheat. Instead I built a road on pigs so we do not need to go up on the hill again.

We need more archers, another worker and granaries asap.

My thoughts: Yaso switches to (5t) worker after finishing archer next turn then granary. Hari grows on archer then swops to granary.

Current worker chops forest into new worker then improves wheat.

Not sure about next tech. Writing seems a fairly obvious choice.

Pretty much my thinking too. I wonder if we aren't better claiming rice/gold before building a granary in the cap though. I don't want to see Izzy stealing it from our gready hands. I am not sure of the best location for that city yet :crazyeye:

tech: finish pottery then writing yeah. Then it will be time to think about our happy cap (monarchy :mischief:, teching it or trading it asap)

Let see what the other think.

@folket: for your next round, it would be great if u could post some kind of report since it's easier for us and for the lurkers to follow. This time it's OK since the we have few units. :)
 
Your plan seems reasonable.

I would like to get Rice+Gold up as soon as it is safe to do so -- not sure how many archers are needed for that. The city should be placed 2N1E of the rice IMO (picks up sugar for later). Great blocker with great production.


2 choices for tech (after writing):
Beeline alphabet or beeline monarchy.
Alphabet works as you can trade for monarchy even if only 1 civ has it and I'm guessing one of our opponents are inclined to tech it early here (religious path Isabella?). Furthermore we should easily be able to get friendly with 1 (or both) civs here as H. Capac has HR as fav civic and Isabella has founded a religion, so WFYABTA is not a concern.

Monarchy beeline works as we have so much commerce that we'll most likely get it earlier than through alphabet trading.

I prefer alphabet I think. We might want to go alphabet -> currency even, and trade for everything up towards and including monarchy.

The often used aesthetics trade would be bad as it could take a while before one of our 2 friends have alphabet and our commerce is so great that we'd not have much useful to do with it meanwhile. We need to expand our happy cap early.

It has the added benefit of being able to build beakers and gold which is unvaluable while rexing and setting up the eco. Costs go up way too quickly in deity :crazyeye:

I'd put rice-gold city 1N of rice, picks up riverside grassland and assuming Izzy's city is on plains hill IN of rice avoids close borders while still catching gold and there's no room for a city in between (unless Izzy beats us to it).

If we're going for 5/3 whips then we're looking at 2 food+gold for both cities and we'll need worker turns to get those improvements done (as well as improved tiles, probably farm and mine while regrowing from 3 to 5) which is why I'm thinking worker first.
 
seems to me like you aim too far north... i would settle near river with overlap on capitals tiles...

that desert land leads nowhere imo and you can follow another city along the river for some more good tiles (wet grass cows)

you could easily place 6 cities withtou stretching too much into desert and have strong cities.

if you place 1E from the wet rice, you need 3 worker turns to connect, but get overlap on capitals tiles

and capital can use some more food to quickly grow...the gold is imo holding back capital a lot...

city with rice+gold can be size 2 for some time, then naturally grow into capital cottages
 
More overlap with the capital (= 1E of Rice) may prove best. 2N1E of the Rice will not be able to work the Sugar for a very long time, and it is far from guaranteed that it will remain in our culture anyway. As vranasm says, 1E of the Rice can help grow Cottages for the capital. It can also pick up the Gold if the capital needs to grow after a whip.

Some Warriors should be built to fogbust the western coast. As long as there is an Archer at the north and southern tips of this line, the Warriors in the middle will be safe. Without a fogbuster, a barb city will appear on the Pigs/Gold very soon (or the Cow/Gold, I suppose).

EDIT: Alpha beeline seems strong. Isabella and HC won't trade with one another, and we can backfill easily.
