The city is dying. Some months on from the first reported outbreak, military quarantine units have closed Malton's borders, and are moving in to eliminate the looters, to forcibly evacuate those civilians who still refuse to leave their homes.

The city is dying, and the urban dead are filling its streets.
Urban Dead is a browser-based, grid-mapped, free-to-play multi-player game where you play the survivor or victim of a zombie outbreak in a quarantined city centre. (Here's a screenshot.)

Anyone playing this game?

I was wondering how long it would take for a Civfanatic to notice this game.

I've been playing it for a while, obviously. Is quite a fun game for those who put in the time.

The play mechanics are certainly different
I have started a charactor being a fan of "zombi" movies but the streets seem to be very empy with nothing to do here.

All I did was find a safe place "St Polycarp's Hospital" and ind two first aid kits

Depends on where you are. There's a lot of zombie's in certain suburbs, such as Ridleybank.

At the moment there are more humans than zombies, which is a problem.

Yup, there's a bigger and bigger pile of bodies outside Frossard Place Police Dept in Lockettside. The zombies there aren't getting up... they stay as bodies. It is suspected they'll one day rise together, bring down the barricade and eat all people inside. My fireman fled that place when the body count went over 20.

St Polycarp's Hospital is now to dangerous theres a large band of 20+ zombis roving the same city map and wipping out human players

I ened up finding a police station.

Hey where can I find pistol ammunition ?
I keep finding shotgun shells.

I find most of my ammunition in the Gun Stores in Malls. It's entirely random what you get each time you search, but it helps to have the 'bargain hunting' and 'shopping' upgrades.

I made a character yesterday (a cop). This looks like a very cool little game. :goodjob:

I'm currently holed up in a police dept, trying to find some ammo for my pistol (no not another shotgun shell damnit!!!!)

You could go to hospitals and find first-aid kits... then go around trying to heal people. You won't know people's HP without the diagnosis skill, but you only waste 1 AP trying to heal a healthy survivor - the kit is not used.

Each successful heal will net you 5 XP... it might take a while, but you will be safe and a lot less frustrations (using up all your ammo hitting only air).

You can then use the XP to improve your hit-chance or get shopping skill. NecroTech employment is good too - you will be able to tell NecroTech building from the streets, and you can use DNA extractor (found in NecroTech buildings) on zombies for more and easier XP.

What skill should I get first ?

Iam thinking "free running" to move in and out of Very Strongly barricaded buildings

or

A Improved combat skill

Whatever skills that would enable you to get XP faster :)

My first character is a Fireman (civilian with bonus to-hit with fireaxe). He did reasonly well with improved axe training. He's now a NecroTech employee, focusing on sampling and reviving zombies.

My second character is a Scout (military with Free Running). She focused on firearms, and I recently got her Shopping and aim for Bargain Hunting later. She has some trouble finding enough ammo to fill her stock of shotguns and pistols.

Free Running is good, but not necessary. Many safehouses keep the barricade level at "very strongly"... and someone will take it down very soon if it is raised to "heavily". You cannot see what's on the streets when using Free Running. So it is good for quick movement only... say a quick trip from safehouse to mall for a looting session.

I'd grab free running first. A lot of buildings are now above 'very strongly barricaded' status, so It's handy to get from place to place.

I survived a long time with my axe before making the move to firearms.

I guess it's different from region to region. My first character is at Lockettside, while the second is at Ruddlebank / Darvell's Heights.

The folks there keep buildings at strongly barricaded, while opening a few buildings and churches for zombies looking for revives.

I just spent all my AP looking for ammo, I now have 24 rounds. This time tommorow I'll be ready to rock

I have also gained some xp from healing people, thanks for the tip. :)

They're making changes again I guess.

The game is still under development. In the last few updates they added a new zombie skill, Ankle Grab, that allows zombies to rise with 1AP, and zombie bites may spread diseases, which can be cured (some % chance of cure) with first-aid kit. I think they also make searching items more difficult.

Perhaps it's the survivor vs zombie ratio... that they decided to give more advantages to the zombies.

Is this even working?
I get an error page when I try the website.

Usually this happens when too many people log on at once. This was a big problem back in August, so the servers were upgraded. Since then another 50'000 or so people joined, so the problem is returning.

What kind of error message are you getting? I used to get one that said something like "log on later if you're not doing anything life-threatening" but now I just get the generic IE "cannot find server" message. I was 99% sure the problem was on my end, but now I'm curious.
