I had just watched Sicko, when it came on TV here in New Zealand this weekend. I was really surprised that the healthcare system seemed to be skewed to making a profit first at the expense of overall health of its citizens. What really shocked me was how bad your health systems really are. And of course, we have now had the GFC, so I assume it has got worse. However, has the Obama plan given "universal healthcare" for all citizens, like we in the rest of the world seem to have.

<snip>

IIRC, Britain may have passed us in teen pregnancy. I'm in the US out of inertia & because this is where my fam & friends are. Plus it's big & you can move around freely with no passport.

Whats wrong with having the most McDonalds? It's an American company...of course we have a lot of them.

And Big Macs are dope.

Are these stats on a per capita basis?
They seem to jump between relative and absolute amounts. Biased picture is not a good way to start a thread mkay...
@kiwitt
I share your appall towards the abysses portrayed in Sicko. But on the other hand, Moore has a history of obscuring the truth.

Fun fact: When you have a country of some three-hundred million odd people, you are going to top all sorts of statistics. It is far easier to regulate and control the general welfare of a nation of some single-digit millions, than hundreds of millions spread across the east-west of a continent.

Oh, questionable statistics are questionable.

I'm not taking those statistics seriously. Britain is 2nd on a chart titled "Highest Crime". Riiight. Seems legit.

I would not trust what Sicko has to say. The maker has a proven track record of making spurious documentaries to push home an agenda. Even if you agree with the sentiment of the film it's borderline propaganda.

Anyway there are enormous positives to living in the USA. Good salaries, good food, any kind of weather you would like! It's got Hollywood (but crap TV except for a few exceptional series) - it would not be much different from living in another ENG-speaking country.

To the OP, did you ever stop to ask why they used only four countries per metric, and the four countries they did? Or how about why they didn't include the method of comparison in the pic?

The USA is also #1 in having the highest amount of Godwynns.

Look at the good things though, American teams win the World Series nearly every year.

So I take it a split up is in order?

Cute. But then you just have a very large amount of smaller countries, some of which will be unable to support themselves, and will ultimately be far worse off independent than as part of the Union.

The USA is also #1 in having the highest amount of Godwynns.

It's also #1 in the number of Downtowns, which frankly is th only national statistic I care about.

Theres no way USA has more teenage pregnancies then all 3rd third world countries.

They don't, the creator of this pic excluded those countries because it makes for a better zinger. Except it is so transparant that it failed at producing the zing.
