Usa #1 ?!?!

You may have 300 million people ... but that just means more people fund better services for all. Or is it really just a fully corporatised user-pays society, i.e. only those who have money are treated well and those that don't are left to fend for themselves.

We have a party here in New Zealand that wants to make New Zealand a fully user-pays society and it only got 1% of the total vote in the last election. i.e. we believe that we should look after all people as much as possible.

In New Zealand, if you have an accident, all expenses are paid for by a government department, including ambulance ride. I was really surprised that one Healthcare provider you have sent a bill for the ambulance, because the accident was not approved in advance - WTH.

Well, stats fail. You should probably just admit defeat and ask for this thread to be closed bcos of poor OP.

Canada is third in rape? I suspect that figure may be per-capita, also probably suffers from many women in other countries never reporting getting raped.

Although I did help a friend get a taxi home from the bar after what we suspect was someone spiking her drink with a date rape drug (she made it home, er well not safe, she fell out of the cab when getting out and had to be taken to the hospital for stitches, on the plus side she didn't get raped).

EDIT: However, about the prisoner statistic, that is correct. The USA has 5% of the world's population and yet 25% of the world's prison population!? Something is seriously wrong there America...

I'll have to defer to the extensive experience and expertise in not producing zings of those claiming there is no zing here.

As my brother in law, a Kiwi, would suggest "USA #1 in tall poppy, for sure, but it's a little bizarre for one of my countrymen to compare anything here to more than Chicago".

It's one thing to be critical of the US but when you get obsessive about it then it all becomes a bit tiresome.

First off, your stats are not per capita.

You may have 300 million people ... but that just means more people fund better services for all.

Are you trying to be knucklehead?

The amount of money per person is still relatively the same.

Have your opinions by all means but don't go around throwing bad statistics for sport.

Short answer for OP:

The US has a pretty antiquated system of government and delegation of power. Addressing national issues like healthcare has an almost unimaginable amount of bureaucracy to over come. That doesn't excuse a failing like lack of universal health care, but does explain how it might have come about.

Given the cost increase projections, I don't see how America could continue to afford its bloated, inefficiency system for another 25 years.

Okay, first off I would like to point out that the U.S, in most of the categories, has the most people, so naturally we're going to have more of everything. Anyway......

United State leading producer of CO2 Emissions.
As of 2008, that is inaccurate.

For most of the rest, we've got more people to have all of those. Big whoop.

Agreed.

People vote with their legs. You don't see immigrants flocking to North Korea...

Look at the good things though, American teams win the World Series nearly every year.

That’s because it’s named after a US newspaper.;)

And the UK has no newspaper named after a celestial body so cannot name a sports tournament after it.

If you had prostate cancer, would you rather be treated in the U.S., England, Switzerland, or Sweden?

If you're part of the 1/6 of the country that can't get health insurance, any other country is better.

Whats wrong with having the most McDonalds? It's an American company...of course we have a lot of them.

And Big Macs are dope.
They're environmentally destructive & bad for health (especially children who are one of their main target audiences)? McDonalds probably contribute to more deaths than Phillip-Morris.

US. Unless I don't have health insurance, in which case I guess I'd go for the UK.

On the other hand, chicken selects are quite tasty. Care to back up that statistic of yours?
