"#@$#@ imperials!"

*WHAP* "watch your mouth. they are not deserving of that curse. they are not followers of chaos. they are simply misguided souls, who have not heard the words of order yet."

"sorry Reverend. it's just they blew up our Trojan."

"ah, but that is not cause for dispare, young one. the imperials merely destroyed what we would have had to destroy eventually. and we did manage to extract the Information form it's parrisites before it's destruction. the MAGI will be please. yes, we shall morn this loss of an information source, but it is no point to linger upon. now come, we have to insure the servers are hiddened and underpowered before we make port. we are not home yet. some of these free worlds are sympathetic toward the Imperials."

"*sigh* at once reverend."

Morning Frost
At dawn, the sky lit up with hundreds of stars. Shimmering engine baffles, atmospheric wakes, a rising sun beat back the terror, the fear of night. People woke, while the machines had begun to slumber.

At first, they descended, they knelt. Shifting apparatus; internal, hidden, ancient; began to rearrange, began to make the proper preparations. They stooped. Their jaws opened. Against the very nature of the monsters, men came out of the jaws from within, instead of going into the mouth without. Screeching, creaking offspring sprang with the monsters’ wombs.

The cycle had started again.

“Report to a transport!”

Captain Belshim sighed and shrugged. A rough ride was better than a hard march.

“Specialists in the motor cars! Heavies in the trucks and infantry in the chimeras!”

A forest of pintle mounts, foliage of shattered flakboard. Enough to call the regiment motorized.

The regiment had inherited its Chimeras from the Imperial Guard. Trucks with flakboard hammered on and steel welded in place had been scrounged up from the old supply services. A Basilisk here and there had been saved from decommission. The regimental officers and staff had several old Lemans, one modified command Leman, and several half-tracks for their transportation as well. Light armoured cars had been salvaged from scrap heaps by a few mechanics back home.

Home. How ironic.

The sun was almost up completely, but the cold air nipped at the edges of the formations. The lingering darkness nibbled at the crowds like wafers.

“1st Veryn Regiment, Irregulars, get to your assigned transports! May He guide and provide!”

As with a warm, powerful aura, Belshim commanded, “Let’s move it, men!” He promptly jumped into a lead Chimera.

Warmed by the diesel engine, surrounded by the plating, shielded from the winter, the captain mused.

A hearth and a Home? How bitter… no... more like, how cold.

Mogz 'ad been told of the hulk by 'is weirdboyz, well dose who's 'eads hadnt exploded when the hulk had torn a whole in the warp. The boyz had been ready to go. But dere place wasnt on a hunk of metal fought over by all sorts of oomies.

On Board Hulk Oblivion
A great screeching filled the corridors of the Hulk as the Terminators of the Heirs of Guilliman fanned out from their drop point. The source of the high-pitched cries quickly became apparent as innumerable Genestealers came rushing out of the darkness. They charged in large waves of chinten and teeth, claws scrapping against the floor as they scrambled to consume the intruders.
Brother-Sergeant Vallus watched the incoming rush with disgust. This was the first time any of the Heirs of Guilliman had faced Genestealers, but they had heard of them and how to deal with them. “Brothers, kill them all.” He ordered while opening fire with his storm bolter. The rest of his squad began shooting into the swarm as well, those in front leaning tight up against the bulkheads to give those behind a clean shot. The front ranks of the ‘stealers were blasted apart by the fusillade and were trampled to mush by their companions as they fell. Still the Genestealers rushed forward, oblivious to the losses.
“Brother Rafe, step forward and burn them out.” Vallus barked into his comm bead. Rafe pushed past his fellows with some difficulty, the bulky armour of the Terminator suit not really designed to work in such tight spaces. Finally he lined up a clean shot and depressed the trigger, great gouts of flame spouting from the heavy flamer he hefted. The flames reached down the corridor engulfing the rampaging xenos. The ‘stealers kept coming but now many were falling as the heat consumed them. One leapt through the flames and reached out to try and tear Vallus apart. The veteran space marine did not flinch away but instead stepped forward into the charge, punching the xenos with his power fist. The Genestealer burst into chunks of blood and chitin and Vallus stepped through the mess, continuing to fire into the writhing mass of xenos. “Come Brothers,” Vallus shouted, “push forward! In the Emperor’s name destroy them all!”

Elsewhere on the Hulk

Another squad of Terminators had moved into what looked to be a loading dock of sorts. Several containers were randomly strewn about in various states of rust in the vast space. Out of every corner and even seemingly from the ceiling Genestealers came flooding in, claws outstretched to meet the Space Marines. The squad opened up with everything they had, the low pitched barks of the storm bolters drowned out by the whine of the assault cannon as it sprayed the ‘stealers with explosive rounds.
Squads from the Legion 2nd company moved in quickly to support the Terminator squad. With their help the Terminators began to move forward slowly. Behind the reinforcements strode Chaplain Brekar of the Heirs of Guilliman first company. He refused to wear Terminator armour, instead wearing the distinctive black power armour that he had worn for over a century before being promoted to the first company. As with all chaplains his devotion to the Emperor was by far greater then any of his fellow marines. His belief in the Emperor’s protection so high that he would not take the added protection of Terminator armour. A few might call him reckless, but not to his face.
Chaplain Brekar surveyed the battle for a moment before striding forward to join the Terminators. He took a deep breath and began his sermon by reciting the Litany of Hate. His words poured out through the comm channels, encouraging the Space Marines to slaughter the enemies of Man. He lifted his bolt pistol and fired into the head of one Genestealer, then brought his Crozius smashing down upon another. He did not miss a word in his sermonizing, quoting various sayings of Roboute Guilliman. His fiery speeches gave the Space Marines around him an even greater passion to destroy the genestealers. The slaughter continued.

Several days later aboard the Sword of Guilliman

Brother-Captain Ideus, commander of the First Company and of the expedition, sat in his command chair watching the reports of the embarkation of the last of the squads that had gone over to the Hulk. He sat in relaxed manner, quite pleased with the results of the operation. Only a few had died in the cleansing of the Hulk, their gene seed had been collected and stored safely aboard. Some interesting data had been found in the wayward halls of the Hulk, which would no doubt please the Tech Marines back home.
The Emperor smiles down upon us, thought Ideus. Now there was only one last thing to do before they would return home. “Astropath, have all the Brothers been brought aboard safely?” Brother-Captain Ideus inquired quietly.
“Yes my lord.” The astropath moaned, drool dripping down it’s chin.
Ideus smiled warmly. “Then you may detonate the charges at your leisure.” He turned his gaze to the holo-pad, which showed the hulk drifting in space. Explosions began to appear across it’s bulk, blasting chunks of debris spinning off into space. More explosions ripped through it’s interior until it fully succumb. The lance weapons and the massive volcano cannon of the Sword of Guilliman were used to clean up the larger chunks of debris, leaving only a fine mist of dust. Brother-Captain Ideus nodded with satisfaction before looking down at the helm controllers. “Prepare the engines, set course for The Legion worlds. We are done here.”

:A little late but life doesn't allow for much free time

The Triax Trade consortium, or simply known as the Trade Consortium was formed shortly after a sudden and violent change of government on the first moon of the fourth planet on the Triax system. In light of the lack of food resources, a trade agreement was made between the Triax system and the centralized governments within the Norwalk system, and a less binding arrangement made with the Heirs of Guillian. Given also the increased turmoil in the sub-sector, the two systems signed into effect a mutual defense pact. Both the trade agreement and the defense pact was to be overseen by a intersystem council with representatives from all planets concerned, lead by a native of Triax IV Alpha, Chairman Khang.

Given the industrial strengths of both systems, and a somewhat unique philosophy adopted under Chairman Khang's guidance, the PDF and Imperial Guard units are generally very well trained and even better equipped. The use of Auto-guns instead of Las weapons, and having the logistics to be able to keep ammunition shortages to a minimum despite this, being just one symptom just how the TTC diverges from standard guard doctrine. Carapace armor is also standard issue to the rank and file, in addition to a number of weapon modifications that would make a tech priest blow a gasket if they were to catch wind of them.

Beyond this, given the recent events on Triax IV Alpha however, and the youth of the inter-system organization, they have yet to make their prescience felt on the larger stage.

Update 2: M42.003-M42.006

Affairs Internal:

[Note: Starting economic status has been determined randomly. You will naturally advance through the economic cycle, though your actions may change how it affects you. Starting rolls have been especially bad for new empires this turn. Empires who have not sent orders will receive no growth. I’ve gotten less information in general from most sets of orders, so I’ve had less to work with.]

The Heirs of Guilliman remain in recession this year. The Chapter’s economic policy remains the same with relatively high taxes. The morale of the people under the Chapter’s suzerainty has however, increased. Military parades have played a major part in a massive propaganda campaign throughout the Heir’s territory. Even the sight of the god-like marines has improved the general feeling of the general populace.

Little news has come out of the planets under the control of the Army of the Grand Design. Oddly peaceful, its neighbours fear that they are only biding their time and building strength. The Army remains in recession, though a lowered tax rate is helping the economy to recover. The people of Iranea remain suitably terrified, with conversion continuing at a slow but steady pace.

Despite the troubles on Home, the people of Vernith are some of the happiest in the sub-sector. The main factor in this has been the extensive investment into the infrastructure of Vernith worlds. The feudal world of Aresna is especially benefiting from this program as access to basic services is beginning in the towns and the civilized worlds of Earanii and Vernith are benefiting from the super-highways and grav-rail lines.

Traders heading into the Bahmali Empire have noticed a startling increase in security measures. The Bahmali economy is continuing to stagnate due to the ever-increasing defence budget.

The Bahmali’s paranoia may be justified, due to their Orkoid and Tzeentchian neighbours. The changing nature of the Atlan Ascendancy has also been troubling the Bahmali. The Bahmali Emperor has publicized the capture of several enemy agents, though they have not released their source or their intent.

Mog’s boyz, sated by the destruction on Nutlob, have spent the last three years fighting over who should take control on the planet. They have ramped up their military production and seemed poised to expand again soon…

The Trade Consortium, having just suffered from an internal coup, are in the process of re-building the economy. They have received help from the Heirs of Guilliman, who have entered into a co-operative economic and military partnership.

Oblivion Bliss, while suffering from recession, is surviving well enough economically. It appears to be pulling out of the recession, but internal chaos due to the defeats in the colonies has resulted in no growth this term.

The Coalition of Worlds has taken the middle road, balancing a tax rate just below the average. The recession that has just hit the Coalition is causing some problems, but the economic policy is limiting damage.

In the Hymbaline Reach, the economy continues to boom thanks positive economic policies, happy, industrious citizens, and the continuing expansion of the Hymbaline economy. In addition, the government has continued to put large amounts of funding into infrastructure and public works. The entrusting of power and funding in the hands of local satraps is helping to ensure that local issues are addressed and that funding is best spent. All told, the people of the Reach are the happiest in the entire sub-sector.

The economy of the Uarthe craftworld is still functioning at maximum capacity. Some in the craftworld are leery about Uarthe’s more direct hand in affairs in the sub-sector, but the success of these actions ensures the craftworld’s leaders have firm support.

Despite a positive economic outlook in the Iydith League, several high level nobles have engaged in a power struggle that has destroyed the progress that has been made.

The Legion remains aloof of affairs throughout the sub-sector. Government officials are angry at the complete lack of leadership from the marines, though they are too afraid to voice their opinions openly. The chapter’s territory is undergoing economic decline as a result of this mismanagement and lack of direction.

After a period of military rule, the Kadra Sept has begun to expand economically. Along with the new civilian leadership come immigrants from the fire and water castes to fully integrate the new Sept into the Tau’va.

The Atlan Ascendancy is continuing on as mysteriously and successfully as it has in the last three years. The economy remains at peak efficiency and the people are frighteningly content. Stories are starting to escape through ‘refugees’ with strange stories of mutant infiltration. Though why refugees would be fleeing from such a prosperous realm others are finding hard to believe.

Affairs External:

The plan for building infrastructure on the Vernith worlds has trickled down to its colonies. XVB-28b, now known as Repaix, is developing modestly. Money and settlers are trickling in at a slow rate. However, these immigrants will likely increase in the future due to the material aid that has made life significantly easier on the settlers. This, along with the infrastructure program, have greatly eased transport between the main colony and the outlying settlements and freed up manpower from food production and resource collection to focus on more important programs. Colonial officials are quite hopeful for this colonies future.

The colonial efforts on Home have been stalled due to continued troubles with the locals. More details below…

Repaix still produces nothing. Details on Home are below.

No advancement has been made in the Iydith League colony of GJI-5c.

No income can be collected yet.

Uarthe Craftworld continues to pour huge amounts of funding into their efforts to colonise TYX-1b, which is now known by the name Aetis. The colony is small, but a comfortable life exists for the slowly growing colony and the investment is encouraging more adventurous Eldar to leave the craftworld and settle on Aetis. Resources would certainly aid in the growth of the budding colony.

No income can be collected yet, though the craftworld is very hopeful that soon the economy will begin producing.

The Atlan colony on CLM-10d has been renamed Karak. The Colonists have survived and expanded their agricultural holdings. The contribution of resources and money are still required to make the world thrive.

One problem has cropped up on Karak. Small bands of Jokaero have been raiding outlying settlements. They only fight when challenged, but strip the colonies of any useful goods, often leaving colonists in dire straits. Previous surveys had not picked up any Jokaero on the planet.

No income can be collected yet.

The colonial efforts of Oblivion Bliss have been disturbed by greater events…

In other news, a massive Ork Rok has dropped out of the Warp through the Tyrex Clouds. It is headed due ‘west’ at an alarming rate.

Matters Military:

Troubles on the Frontier

Home
During the last three years, the Homite people have been bombarded with propaganda. While this has had little effect, a fair few Homites, mainly those with gripes against their government, have turned over to Vernith. On the diplomatic front, Home’s ruling council have noted that Vernith’s expeditionary force, though only a small token of their power, is as large as Home’s entire military.

Vernith’s offers of a peaceful takeover led to a vote for annexation in the planet’s council of 15-12. The losing Councillors walked out of the meeting.

Colluding with a militant, xenophobic faction in the Homite military a coup was staged by the councillors. With military support, the rogue Councillors cracked down on opposition. While many outraged Homites have joined the military in their determination to defend their homelands, the trickle of turncoats has turned into a stream as refugees flood into Vernith held lands.

Small skirmishes are common, especially between ‘traitors’ and loyalist militias, though both Vernith and Homite forces are wary to be the first to attack.

Home has threatened that war is inevitable is Vernith does not vacate Home immediately.

Forces Involved:
Vernith:
PDF Infantry Divisions: 2
Negligible losses

Home:
PDF Infantry Divisions: 2
PDF Armoured Divisions: 1
Fanatics: 1
Negligible losses

Results:
Home is now worth 30/0/0/0 to Vernith, due to pro-annexation settlements turning to Vernith for protection.

Guilliman’s Scalpel

GJI-5c
The Battle Barge Sword of Guilliman made a second sortie this turn towards the end of the cycle. In a perfectly timed surgical attack one of Oblivion Bliss’ colonies, the Heirs of Guilliman landed on one of the two Slaaneshi colonies.

Desploying by Thunderhawk Gunship and teleport, four companies of marines assauled the surface. The meagre militia defences by the colonists could do little to protect the colony from the assault.

In a methodical three day occupation, the marines destroyed anything of value and everyone they could get their hands on. When Oblivion Bliss’ vessels arrived, they found the colony had been blasted basically back to the square one.

Forces Involved:
Heirs of Guilliman
Type – Number involved – number lost – number remaining
Scout Company: 1
Battle Brother Companies: 2
First Company: 1
Negligible losses.

Oblivion Bliss:

Oblivion Bliss’ colony on GJI-5 destroyed.

The Hand of Khaine

Varnee
The Eldar have begun to make their intentions clear towards the Hrud of Varnee. In the last three years, they have pumped more than twice Varnee’s economy into rebuilding the planet. In the major towns, Hrud are beginning to live at a higher technological level and fledging industries are appearing.

The Hrud have been quick to establish a government of their own. A planetary confederation calling itself the Varnee Freeholds now governs the world. The Freeholds claim independence, or at least autonomy, but also recognize the work sacrifice the Eldar have undertaken for their behalf. As such, they have pledged to repay the Eldar in an eternal pledge.

The Freeholds are in the process of organizing the various insurgent bands together into a regular army, though the process is slow and some feudal warlords refuse to turn over power.

The Eldar seem content with the situation for now. They have been eager to enlist the Hrud in the campaign against the Orks, and the Hrud have been happy to oblige.

The Orks were in a bad position. Thrown out of their fortresses, on the run already, and caught in a countryside in revolt, the Orkish warbands were cut off, surrounded, and taken apart methodically by the Hrud and Eldar forces. With the Orks completely outnumbered, outmaneuvered, outgunned, and with nowhere to run or hide, it was only a matter of time before they were completely destroyed.

By the end of M42.005, any organized resistance had been fallen apart. The remaining Orks were utterly alone, with tiny mobz fighting for their survival in increasingly hostile surroundings. By the end of M42.006, the last traces of the Orkoid menace were eliminated from the world.

Forces Involved:
Uarthe Craftworld:
Type – Number involved – number lost – number remaining
Guardian Divisions: 2
Aspect Warrior Regiments: 1
Armored Regiment: .5
Warlock Teams: 2
Eldar Aerial Groups: 2
Negligible losses

Orks of Varnee:
Type – Number involved – number lost – number remaining
Buncha Puny Grots 1 – 0 – 0
Feral Orks: 3 – 3 – 0
Mobz o’ Boyz: .5 – .5 – 0
Mobz o’ Nobz: .5 – .5 – 0

Varnee Freeholds:
Type – Number involved – number lost – number remaining
Hrud Skirmishers: 3 – .75 – 2.25
Hrud Geurillas: 1 – .25 – .75

Varnee recovers from 260 economy back up to 300. The Varnee Freeholds are now a semi-independent faction. They have offered to pay 20% of their income Uarthe craftworld in perpetuity and have offered a full alliance to Uarthe.

Junee
The Eldar campaign on Junee was not as easily won as the campaign for Varnee.

The feral Orks rallied around a powerful young warlord, Wurzag, and went to ground quickly on this world. Without the millions of rebellious Hrud to hunt them out, they slipped through the forests lying in ambush whenever the Eldar dared to approach.

Most often, the Eldar discovered the Ork tricks and traps and slaughtered the Orks. However, sometimes the Orks were successful and small bands of Eldar were massacred by the greenskins. Even in these small victories however, the Orks took heavy losses.

At the end of M42.006, the Orks were thoroughly beaten. Wurzag’s few remaining veterans had retreated as deep into the jungles of Junee as they could, hoping that the shiny devils would just leave them along.

Forces Involved:
Uarthe Craftworld:
Type – Number involved – number lost – number remaining
Guardian Divisions: 2 – .5 – 1.5
Aspect Warrior Regiments: 1 – .2 – .8
Armored Regiment: .5 – 0 – .5
Warlock Teams: 2 – 0 – 0
Eldar Aerial Groups: 2 – 0 – 2

Wurzag’s Confederacy
Type – Number involved – number lost – number remaining
Feral Orks: 3 – 2.5 – .5
Mobz o’ Nobz: .5 – .4 – .1

From battle damage and population loss, the world of Junee falls from 50 economy to 5. The few remaining Orks have been scattered into tiny tribes and will take generations before they can threaten anything

Let not radicals in your government prevent a peaceful transition to the Imperial authority and protection. We, humanity, are the sons and daughters of the Emperor. It is natural to accept His deliverance and His protection. The hordes of greenskins and the Warp, Genestealers and Chaos threaten us continuously, and it is by the will of the Emperor, of the combined wills of humanity in the Imperium that we live and prosper.

Do not allow such radicals scornful of peace and acrimonious of prosperity stop our collective wills.

Volunteer! Join into the 10 proposed regiments of Homite PDF. The resulting 2 divisions of Homite troops are to be christened the Peacemakers. We are seeking 20,000 recruits. However, we hope that the voices of 200,000 Homites will be heard by the minority of radicals holding your brothers and sisters, your fathers and mothers, your cousins and friends in thrall in the capital.

We currently lack surpluses in refined goods for export, regrettably. Perhaps possibilities for other trade agreements can be worked out in the future.

Colonization started when President Hyde, former captain Hyde and his escourt team entered a mysterious Warp Hole. The civilian transports was loaded primaraly raw materials. However, when they entered into a mysterious system of a furture Industrial world and a Perfect undeveloped Agri-world. Captain Hyde had send meassage after meassage to known Imperials to no avail. Then He Started a vote, and he was declared President. Over Months the Agri-world was planted with seeds and the Industrial was built up. And it seems that another free human Planet hitch hicked over in a battered Civilian Transport to the system; days later another group in a military Transport with skilled pilots landed. Soon, 8 light years away another Industrial planet, although large, was detected and colonized (although the rest of the system wasn't searched). To say the adepts were unhappy would be a mild understatement. Last time they had to use this much red ink was when the price of adamantine dropped by 5% for a day. The scene was getting ugly. Already petty squabbles had to be broken up through use of non lethal force, and soon not even a nural maul was going to be sufficient deterrent for a riot.

The chairman sat in his office, the observation window filled with the scene of the slowly growing primordial riot. With a flick the intercom was switched on, the hum of feedback cut over the din, and an awed hush filled the exchange floor. "Send in the Accountants." Hands released necks, writing utensils fell to the floor unbloodied. A wave of pale faces washed over the assembled adepts. He may as well ordered the planetary plasma reactors to overload as far as they were concerned.

The exchange was cleared within minutes as sweating adepts bustled as fast as their atrophied legs could take them, hurrying them to the nearest com-link so they could warn their noble masters. "The accountants are coming!" Instructions such as 'burn/destroy/deface every document/ receipt/ticket stub you have from that golden studded bathroom/pleasure dome/ collection of animated fuzzy animals' would only make matters worse. The Accountants were ruthless and relentless in the carrying out of their duties. Every piece of personal earnings, every white lie you told to the administratum, everything would be sniffed out until both sides of the equal sign actually matched.

It was secretly hopped that both arms of the Triax not so secret police would be put against the wall at the end of the coup. The Justicars and the Accountants are equally feared by different kinds of criminals, both of whom thought they had a free meal ticket with the death of the last regime. Now every nobles quarters on the first moon of Triax IV would be visited by a smartly dressed, immaculately groomed and utterly humorless adept whom they would swear was drummed out of the inquisition for being too determined and too damn mean.

Within a Day, to the chagrin of its own nobility, Norwalk IV also found itself under extensive financial audit. Their protests quickly silenced by an obscure section of text in the mutual trade pact, insuring that both planets would be given leave to protect their investment.

It was time to clean house.

Twas an unexpectedly long and hellish trip through the warp, but at last the weary diplomat disembarks from his shuttle and delivers his message from the Hymbaline Reach to the Imperial functionaries of the Emperor Bahmal, Isa Al-Khalifa XVII (cc the Coalition of Worlds)

The Reach looks favorably upon such cooperation. We could pass on advance warning of interstellar threats, for starters, and we would be open to other levels of mutual protection as well.

We do not deal with the scum who serve the false Emperor. Since the depradations of the tyrants of Tyrex on our planets, all members of the Imperium are unwelcome on Bahmali soil.

The embassy from the Hymbaline Reach are greeted with much fanfare. They are served the finest delicacies and experience the best entertainment the Bahmali people have to offer.

The Emperor Bahmal sends his response along with a permanent embassy of his own.

We are pleased to find friends in the vast, lonely reaches of space. In a symbol of our goodwill, we will pass along the first warning: the Orks under Mogg appear to be building up and we will they will soon be on the march.

In addition, we would like to sign a pact of non-aggression a a formal sign of our friendship. From there, perhaps negotiations can begin for a more comprehensive defensive arrangement.
