Warhammer unit request: Chaos Dwarfs & Hobgoblins

That Bull Centaur look nice. :) What is the "saddle"? Maybe loose that, I don't see the point of it (just educate me if I'm missing something...).
Maybe give him a morning star or something to fight with, I agree that axes get boring after a while. ;)
How about giving him a civ coloured beard? :mischief:

Looks good. My only requests would be a big, black beard, a different hat (more like the hero's or the hats on bull centaurs seen recently in this thread), and that when you animate him you have him cross his arms across his chest (when standing still and/or running) like the preview pic on the first page.

As for weapons, how about two smaller one-handed hammers or axes? Maybe a big, two-handed serpentine sword that he'd hold in front of him when he ran like ED's elven riders hold their blades?

Or, since Chaos Dwarves seem to be loosely based in appearance and such on Messopotamian civilizations like Babylon, perhaps look up what Babylonian swords looked like and give him one of those?

Black beard could be good choise. About the hat: the hat in my preview is a hat tha is on one bull centaur presented in the thread starter post. I'll try some different model, since the one isn't very good looking IMHO.
I don't get the "cross his arms across his chest (when standing still and/or running) like the preview pic on the first page". I don't get it for two reasons:
- 1. There is no such preview - the one I think you are talking about is not crossing his hands in front of his chest; he's carrying a two-hand axe on the side (you can't see the blade of the axe, since it's "behind" the axe handle, so you see only a "pole" which is the axe handle).
- 2. If he crosses his hands in the default/run animations, where does he put his weapons/shields for that time? For consistency's sake, I won't make him carry his weapons anywhere else than his hands. :crazyeye:

Interesting suggestions :) , but I think I'm not going to make him wield a two-handed weapon, since I don't know how to do it (yet. maybe someday I will know)

Okay, here's a bit different version.
- replaced the "saddle" with more bull-centaurish bodywear :p
- replaced the funny hat with an obvious chimney
- reduced the size of the axe
- changed the axe blade to make it look like it was cut from a circular saw
- replaced the shield with another small axe
- added fangs
- changed beard colour to very-dark-brown (black did not look very good in unit-size)

Aaglo:

In watching the LOTR Two Towers Extended DVD yesterday, there is some excellent resource material on one of the bonus DVDs that clearly showing running behaviour of the Warg (in a wire framed mode). As well there was some excellent motion modelling of the Orc, Uruk and other creatures.

Given the recent conversations about wolf riders, I thought this would be excellent material to review for you (and the other designers). It might serve as some good background material for future motion modelling.

If you don't have access to it, let me know and perhaps alternate arrangements could be made.

Regards
Misfit

Could you have him cross his arms with the axes still in his hands? That might be cool looking but it might be a bit cumbersome to do. Looks great.

Mistfit (with a "t" )

Edit:
Here's an Avatar sized Mino if you decide to change to this :D

Yeah, it might serve as good background material for motion modelling, but it's easier to say than do such things :bounce:

I'll do my best, and we'll see where it ends up :)

Thanks Mistfit, but I edited the model a bit (changed the blue pieces in the hands in to plate-mail-texture). :) - but thanks for the tip ;)

I'm having a bit trouble with the run animation on this - I can't seem to make a decent 'lope' for this bull. Instead, I thought about making it a walking unit - literally. I wonder if this would look silly in the game... I think It wouldn't :mischief: . . . after all, it is a cow, and they tend to walk rather than run :)

Assuming the speed seems OK in-game, that should work.

Carrying the axes like that for any length of time would require obscene arm strength. If he could hold them at a bit higher angle, or closer to the blades, it would look more relaxed and natural.

You forgot "and less good" from that list ;)
I'll see what I can do - I'll propably go with higher angle (so that the blades are closer to the body).

How about resting the axes on the shoulders? :) "I may look laidback now, but wait for the attack animation." ;)

Or maybe one on the shoulder, and on "hanging down" more.

Did I hear you right aaglo? You're making a hobgoblin axeman/shaman, chaos dwarf blunderbuss and a still unrevealed chaos dwarf unit next? Excellent, those are just the ones I need for MoM...

:mischief:

Ok, enough with the break.

So, you want an ironmask, YP?
Hmm, how's this (with a couple of questions):
- do you want him to carry a warhammer (like in the preview)?
- what should he carry in another hand (shield/another-hammer-or-some-other-type-of-weapon/torch/ect.)?
- should there be something more added to the helmet?
- any suggestions on the colouring ect.?

Looks really good.
- Maybe some color variation. Maybe the mask and the helmet could be two separate pieces with different colors?
- Also, should the cape(?) be brown?
- Do you feel like you could handle a two handed hammer? Could be good variation for the one handed weapons.
