When I was just out of college, we threw a surprise party for a guy we knew. The surprise was we didn't invite him because no one liked him.

Probably not that unusual, but I've been to a party to celebrate someone leaving the company. You always want to be invited to your own going-away party.
If it counts, I also went to a drinking-oriented event for one of the presidential debates last fall. We had to throw out the rule about drinking when Trump didn't follow the rules because it was happening too often, primarily in the form of interrupting Clinton. Sad!
Planned an end-of-the-world party on 12/21/2012 but that didn't wind up happening.

I threw a going away party for a guy once and didn't invite him. In fact I announced the party right after he said he was leaving and set the date for three days after he was going.
Our college science fiction club had a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy party. Since I had the series on VHS, we held it in a member's home. Everyone wore housecoats and brought a towel, and every part of the meal had to have something to do with fish (yes, even dessert; I made fish-shaped chocolates).

We had a party to watch Danger 5, had about 30 people over, dressed up as the characters, and made huge quantities of all the cocktail recipes given, timed to be drunk with the episodes.
