What American accent do you have?

I got northeast My dad was raised in northern new jersy and northern illinois (spl?) So I suppose it's fitting allthou, My Mom is mexican so I have a accent NOT A POCHO ACCENT!!!!!! My parents went to great legnths to make sure I speak Spanish properly without any need for English words in a Spanish conversation, it was exactly the same with English.

.....Infact my biggest problem with my Englsih and Spanish is that people think I am pretentious.......:( oh well at least I don't sound like a Pocho that would have made for a rough life...

I dont have an accent because I was an army brat, but I say soda, soda pop, wicked, and y'all. The yankee and southern accents come out sometimes though

This thread is a linguistic headache. :(

I don't know if it was available in the quiz, but I've got a New England accent. The quiz told me north. I am prepared to challenge the quiz. :p We freaks do not sound similar to most people in Wisconsin.

I am proud to say that I can immitate almost any accent on earth, so where I'm from is irrelevent. When I visit The Carolinas, US every year, I put on a thick southern accent, and I can even fool the toughest of judges. Same with the wisconsin accent, don't cha no... My favorite one would have to be the New Jersey accent. That's a fun one! :crazyeye:

Given how people in Pittsburgh mangle the pronounceation of 'ou's and 'o', I was expecting something odd. I got Midland. The local dialect tends to replace an 'ah' sounds for the above, meaning 'downtown' turns to 'dahntahn' and 'out' becomes 'aht'.

I went back and gave opposite answers to all the choices and it came back southern. Weird.

Midland!? Why did I get Midland?

Where's my Noo Yawk fugheddaboudit accent? That I never said I had but my people in Minnesota and North Carolina say I do have.

I must be too much of a politician.

Well, at least it's not anything from Boston.

Huh. I miss my New Yorker accent.

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

My Results:

Northeastern

Most people don't know it but this is actually what dictionaries are based on. If you don't believe me, pick up any American dictionary and look up "source" and "sauce" and you'll see they are written with the same vowel pronunciation.

Zarn: Why wouldn't it be the same?

Hmmm. I scored Midland, and that's one of the few areas of the US I have never lived

I am what I'm supposed to be.
You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.
I will say there's a specific Chicago accent that's not like this. You need to drop the "th from words like you'd say "tree" of "dem".

I do like saying a Bahhhstin "yahd" for yard just because it's fun to say.

I think that the problem with this quiz is that people don't pronounce things the way they think they do.
