What Are You Reading, Again?

Right now I'm not reading much independantly, just what I have to read for school, which would right now be The Once and Future King and The Canterbury Tales. In about a week we will read The Hot Zone.

I'll take a journey with my old friend Hemingway (again).

A Farewell To Arms.
To Have And Have Not.
The Old Man And The Sea.
For Whom The Bell Tolls.

:)

Hmm, I finally find a Civ forum and make a beeline for the book thread...

Why am I not surprised?

Anyway, I'm currently reading Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. It's interesting...but a bit esoteric if you catch my drift. His (the author's) knowledge of the occult is so vast, it's almost creepy. But nonetheless, I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. If only there was a more defined plot for a simpleton like me...

Also, re-reading Red Storm Rising by Clancy. Nothing like a good NATO vs. USSR book to say the least. And the submarine combat is, as always, accurate and exciting. Possibly one of his best books, basically because Clancy doesn't have to support a main character, and rather can elaborate on the combat which he describes so well.

Yeah, Red Storm Rising is a good book. I tend to be of the opinion that his older books are better than the newer ones (as is my dad).

Currently trying to read several new acquisitions I've found over the past few weeks. Among them are:
-Napoleon: Man of War, Man of Peace, by Timothy Wilson-Smith
-Trail of Tears, by John Ehle (about the Cherokee nation)
-Magical Mystery Tours: My Life with the Beatles, by Tony Bramwell
-Mapping the World: Maps and Their History, by Nathaniel Harris

I'm reading 'Blown' by Philip Jose Farmer...

It's rather...Interesting!

:)

I just read the Algebraist (sp?) by Ian M Banks (his latest and best book by far!)

Also recently read (since I last posted) are: War of the Worlds and The Time Traveller by the man himself.

Just started: Perils Gate (I think) by Janet Weiss.

I haven't been reading lately, but I read "Candide" a few weeks ago, and I'm planning to read some of Kierkegaard's works soon.

All are excellent books. For some reason, the critics didn't like "To Have And Have Not," but I found it to be a very good book.

Can't remember where I left off last post, but I've read Universe on a T-Shirt by Dan Falk, Physics of Star Trek by Lawrence M. Krauss and A Brief History of Time (Revised Edition, this time) by Stephen Hawking. I've just started up The Dilbert Future by Scott Adams, which I've read before about five years ago. It's not as good as I remember :(

Pay no attention to what a critic says. A statue has never been erected in honor of a critic. -Sibelius

I've got Sickness Unto Death and Fear and Trembling in my stack of books to read, but I'm waiting for the summer so I can have enough time and space in my head.

(Thank God the summer comes in one day!)

I just finished Lamb a hilarious "missing gospel" that tells the story of Jesus' life prior to his ministry as told by his boyhood friend Levi, better known as Biff.

Next up; A Different Universe: Reinventing Physics from the Bottom Down by Robert B. Laughlin.

I just finished Night by Elie Wiesel.

Timeline by Micheal Crichton

Very interesting novel losely based on historical speculation; especially for Civfanatics...takes you back in time to the 14th century to a battle between the English and French during the 100 years war. Starts a bit slowly, but once it gets rolling the war and battle type action is nonstop.

My local Barnes & Noble just had a buy two get one free sale on all their Classics series... and so I bought what I've been meaning to buy since I read Crime and Punishment...

The Idiot
The Posessed
The Brothers Karamozov

All by Dostoevsky
