I just finished 'This Boy's Life' by Tobias Wolff. It should be required reading for anyone who thinks that the 1950s in America were an idyllic period. I just started reading '1421,The Year China Discovered America', by Gavin Menzies. According to Menzies the Chinese discovered America 70 years before Columbus did, and they had circumnavigated the globe 100 years before Magellan. Although I recently heard on the radio that some of the maps that Menzies relied upon are questionable, so I guess it is an open question. Still a pretty good read though, lots interesting tidbits about China during that period.
