What are you working on now?

@warpus That is pretty neat. Did you make it, or was it another contest entrant?

I should have been more clear! Credits for this go to Whazzit of the textmode art collective known as Blocktronics. Talented artist out of Korea (although he's Canadian)

I co-judge this compo so unfortunately i can't win. But I've been in that position since the 90s so I don't mind it. My job is to co-host, co-judge, and drum up interest so more people participate.

This compo was running weekly in the 90s, then once a month, then it died, then it came back, was running once a year, and now due to the pandemic there's more interest so we've started doing it 4 times a year. Next one will be at some point in the late winter next year I believe.

Yesterday I moved 2/3 of the non-furniture stuff to my new apartment by myself. The Mrs has reached the 'smuggling a beach ball under her shirt' phase of pregnancy so her job is to walk the dog and do some light packing while I do the pack-mule thing and cart stuff between complexes. Our new apartment complex is catty-corner from my current complex and it turns out it is faster to just put the boxes on a cart and walk it rather than load up the car and drive it. Plus, this saves me from having to load and unload the car a trillion times.

Unfortunately, I have to spend a lot of time in elevators and this means coming into contact with a lot of people. It is a good thing I am a big guy because I have been able to intimidate people from trying to hop on the elevator with me by just parking the cart right at the edge of the door of the elevator and standing behind it with my arms crossed and shaking my head 'no'. Most people aren't even wearing masks! So frustrating.

And I know people get mad at me when they can't get on (because the elevators are truly slow) but hey, I spent probably 3 or 4 hours yesterday just waiting for elevators and there were many, many times where the situation was reversed and I did not try and force my way onto elevators that were already occupied, even when invited to do so.

I expect that today we'll finish packing and moving the last of our non-furniture belongings though we will probably have to start unpacking some stuff at the new place to recycle the boxes because we're running out.

Bravo Hobbs!!!

Thanks guys!

Today is our last day in our current apartment, the movers are coming for the furniture tomorrow. I have now moved over everything that isn't a piece of furniture and I'm hoping that the movers will be done within their minimum-commitment window of 2 hours since it's only a few things they have to move.

For the past year I have put on a brave face about this apartment and withheld whining about how much I absolutely hate this place and how sad it made me because I have learned that constant complaining makes me feel worse. A whole bunch of bad things happened all at once last year - I lost my job, then our landlord found an excuse to kick us out of our last unit and my wife started grad school (which is a good thing but stupid expensive, especially with one of us out of work). The end result was that we moved into a much smaller flat that is also buried inside the complex such that it gets 0 direct sunlight and is typically dark inside by around 10am.

I hate, hate, hate this place and it feels so good to say it out loud and to also be rid of it at the same time.
