| FreeFall Tournament is my favourite game on Kongregate. It's a shooter with robot classes and jetpacks that seems simple but is deceptively difficult to master. For a game you play in a browser window the graphics are phenomenal and unline most Kong games you're allowed to play fullscreen. Currently my top free online game.

| New Star Soccer gets honorable mention as the best online sports game I've tried, and I don't even like Soccer. There are a couple gamey features where you have to suspend disbelief (like the ever rising cost of energy drinks) but it's still fun to build your career and try to win the World Cup for your country.

I've played lots of others including a lot of time spent on a few of the free online CCG's. They can be fun for a while but I haven't found any that can hold my attention.

What are your favourite free online games?

You mean browser games? Cus dota2 is free and online, but somehow don't think that's what you mean.

Yeah I'm thinking more along the lines of something you could play in your broswer or at least with very minimal downloading. I haven't played it but when "STORE" is the first link on the Dota2 page it's not what I'd consider "free".

It's free, it's supported by microtransactions for purely cosmetic items. You can buy different outfits and skins for your heroes. It's actually a really nice model. My favorite time waster currently. I don't really play browser games.

None because I have a smartphone for playing more casual games.

Like Angry Birds: Star Wars and whatever other decent games that come up for free on Amazon's daily or frequent "have some games for free" stuff.

I seem to recall this being pretty good (puzzle game):

It's in my favourites list at Kongregate.

I enjoyed New Star Soccer as well although I didn't play for a month and lost my player to a cleared cache or something. Poor Jackson Onion, suffered a career-ending injury at age 19

new star soccer gets boring fiarly quickly in my experience. especially once you have maxed out most of the stats.

if you're into a bit of citybuilding, you can try anno online

Sonny 2 is basically the best online flash game ever made. It actually takes skill to play, and the music, graphics, etc. are all professional quality. And it has a rudimentary storyline.

I'm a fan of Kongregate in general, but the best games there IMO are the various tower defense games. Kingdom Rush is fantastic, and the Cursed Treasure ones are good, too. There are plenty of others as well.

Paranoia big destroyah!

DOTA2 is 100% free to play, but not 100% free of trolls and cranky people (also being forced to look at ads for in-game items is little different than being forced to look at adds at free, browser games, or being asked to refer a billion friends to plant a flower in a Facebook game).

I recommend DOTA2 as my favorite free-2-play game. It is 100% non-grindy if you don't care about earning cosmetic items in game. But it is very strategic and skill-based.

Much less so, I recommend:

World of Tanks and World of Warplanes and Star Trek: Online.
These are all detailed, grindy games. ST:O is also a MMORPG.

If you are into casual RTS with some MOBA aspects, I recommend Air-Mech.
This is highly grindy at first, but after a while is only grindy for cosmetic items.

It's not a flash game like the initial suggestions, but I've always thought Utopia was a pretty good game. I'll play for a few months (generally join mid-age, finish out the age, play the full next age, then wander off), then not play for a year or two... since 1999 or so I believe.

Haven't played it in a while, I'll probably be giving it another go-round some time soon.
